Its called the guass cannon, probably a energy round.

I'm not sure of the name, but who ever was behind the controller couldn't shoot the broad side of a barn...if it were me..all 3 of those covenant "bus' " would be down before they crossed that under road.

I think it's actually supposed to be an autocannon.

I forget what the name of the bungie employee was, but there was a big article about how he couldn't aim for his life. He talks about how he was supposed to nail the ghost that collides with the warthog and flies into the air, but he finally destroyed it well after it hit the ground, its known as "the shot"

It's a Gauss rifle, Magnetic accellerator cannon, rail gun, whatever you want to call it. I fires a metal slug propelled by magnetic charges through copper rails.

Imagine the lines are electro magnetically charged rails, the = is the slug. There should be another line under the = but I couldn't draw one. Now the = is released and the magnetic charge draws it along the barrel (not shown) and it reaches super high speeds, and the charge stops at the end of the rails but momentum keeps the slug moving and so it hits the target. The super high velocities mean that the slug punctures the target armor, then shatters causing even more damage, which is what makes rail guns so powerful.

I hate everything, but it's not my fault.

LOL nice scientific explanation, but it exploded on contact, and I don't think a rail gun would do that.
-EDIT-
The "LOL" again! Jeez, I'm starting to annoy myself looking through these posts.

Maybe it fires explosive rounds, I'm sure Bungie said somewhere that it was a rail gun.
I think it was the vehicle that was exploding, when it hit the walls, the explosion was not so big, and a different colour.

I just watched that bit of the e3 demo again, it is definately a rail gun, you can tell from the noise, it must fire explosive bullets because they are the only explaination for the explosions.

Guass Rifle....don't know if that's the same thing as a rail gun....but I'm pretty sure Bungie said officially that it was a guass rifle, so yeah.
