Subject: Halo PC audio issue under Windows XP

Hey guys! Been having the following issue with Halo PC, where the gun sounds will randomly become distorted:

This occurs under Windows XP 32 SP2/3 on the following hardware:

Intel Core 2 Duo 2.5GHz, 4Gb DDR2, nVidia 8600M GT 512Mb, Realtek HD on board audio, Halo 1.08. Latest nVidia and Realtek HD audio drivers installed.

This does not occur on the exact same hardware under Windows Vista SP1 on a dual boot partition.

Have tried reinstalling XP and Halo multiple times, also changing audio hardware acceleration from full to none in control panel as well as changing the audio quality/variety in Halo's audio settings and disabling EAX. I use just a simple stereo speaker, nothing fancy.

Any other ideas?

Thanx in advance.

Yes, I am a hypocrite, and I'm sorry. I really do mean well, but I'm not running on all cylinders.

Everytime someone buys a copy of Halo 2 Vista, a puppy dies.

Had this same problem. Bought a "Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Gamer" and problem went away.

Yeah......can't do that on my laptop though :(

Strange that it doesn't occur on Vista. Obviously has something to do with the way Vista handles audio as opposed to XP........
