...it's all fun and games until someone loses an eye..

is by far my favourite level on Halo... anyone else feel the same? I remember playing a demo of this and being blown away and just had to get the full game.

Assault on the Control Room is my favorite but the Silent Cartographer comes pretty darn close to it. It was just that beach landing that was just hands down awesome. It was something you never experienced before in a video game in a year like 2001.

The Silent Cartographer is good, but Assault on the Control Room is better.

Indeed it is. After the final battle under the bridge with the Marines I'm kind of burned out at the thought of fighting my way through more of those little rooms. But sometimes it's worth it to get to that final area with the Banshee's and all that fun craziness.

RIP Halo 2

AOTCR is my favorite, but Silent Cartographer is my second. It's also the first level of Halo I ever played. My friend's brother had just gotten Halo CE, it had just come out, and he was playing through it for the first time. He let me and my friend play the next level, which happened to be the Silent Cartographer. Then we were hooked, and here I am.

I didn't like AotCR too much, the Silent Cartographer will always be my favourite, only because of the beach landing. Bungie were way ahead of their time, like Thanatos said.

Lighten Up

It used to be my favorite, hands down. Many hours spent with a friend getting the warthog as deep into the level as possible. We'd spend days just screwing around on that level. Not to mention it is great played as it was designed to be as well. As great of a company Bungie is to this day, something special was definitely lost at Bungie after this game was finished, and the handful of levels brought up in this thread are testament to that.

It seems like a few things that helped make this game so re playable (getting banshees when you aren't supposed to, getting vehicles inside of bases, etc etc) were thought of as "errors" to later bungie development teams, when really your "average gamer" (who they seem to try to cater to now) wouldn't even think of doing those things until playing the game a million times, which by then, since sticking with the game for so long, they wouldn't care if the frame rate drops a little, or makes a normally challenging battle a lot easier/harder...

Halo seemed to reward you for thinking of creative ways to tweak game play. I feel like every time I get creative in Halo 3's campaign, there's something blocking me from doing it.

Wow... I shoulda just said: "yeah".

The Silent Cartographer is definatelly one of the best. Great level design, great music timing, great ambient sound, just awesome all over. If you have surround sound, you should take a stroll on the beach and hear the waves. Ah...So peaceful. I'm such a nerd.

Seriously though, TSC is an awesome level. A Halo classic! Right up there with Assault on the Control Room (I think).

Need playtesters for your maps and gametypes in hopes of them one day making it into Halo Reach? Join "Cartography Pro" today!

Here's to Halo's Lefties. (not the Jackals, the players!) Check my fileshare, I might be worth your while.Unfrigginbelievable!!! In campaign! check my fileshare!

AR/BR together! Why can' t they just get along?......Well, now I guess its AR and DMR,,,, oh will the flame wars never end?

Red Brute- "It gives you Jetpacks!"

Assault on the control room and Two betrayals tie for the best level in my heart and mind. Yes they took place on the same map, but they each had their own epic battles, especially final run on Two Betrayals.

Does anyone even read these?

So many good levels in Halo: CE. The Maw was also an epic one.

Glory to Jesus Christ

Not my favorite level, but it is definitely pretty awesome. I freaked out at the beach landing when I play the level for the first time, and delving deep underground fighting alien hordes along with the eerie music and the ominous silence of the room that is really filled with camo elites all contribute to the awesomeness that is The Silent Cartographer. I also like hearing the marines give their final promise that they will hold off the Covenant as best they can, a sad and yet epic moment.

I'd have to say Halo was my favorite level.

Basically, I make the best topics ever.

Feedback!
Duardo: This thread is locked for being stupid.
cortana 5 : It's perpetually my time of the month and I'm just grouchy.
Foman: I see absolutely no reason, either theoretical or practical, that this is not a superb idea. Excellent work, my friend.

By far my favorite level. The beginning was the best.

My favorite is Two Betrayals, Assault on the Control Room in close second.

Awesome level. What I really love about it is that there are a thousand ways to play through it.

Still, probably not as good as Two Betrayals or Truth and Reconciliation, but certainly one of my favorites.

  • 05.22.2009 11:45 AM PDT

One of my favorite levels. My only problem with it is it's way too short.. The beginning cinematic sets the tone for the entire level. Landing under fire and trying to save a marine to man the chaingun on the soon to arrive warthog makes for a sense of urgency that adds to the intensity iof the level.

In regard to the Silent Cartographer, is it just me or does that Gold Elite near the end scare the crap out of you every time you get ready to go down that corridor, even though you always know it's going to be there waiting?

I usually kill it long beforehand, but when I play it the normal way, yeah. I just try to stick him and run.

The Elites at the bottom near the switch still catch me off guard sometimes. I love that this game is actually difficult, but not rediculous.
