Firstly, I don't know where everyone is getting the Idea Earth is not going to be glassed. In the announcement trailer everything you can see of the Earth is being glassed, the General on the ground is begging the ships above to stop the apocalypse but they don't dare, none of their remaining craft have the power to do anything against the Assault carriers. The entire surface was black and burning.

Secondly, you guys are forgetting one key item that the UNSC has at their disposal... Flash Cloning. Just point an Engineer or two at a Cloning chamber and they'll perfect it for us, allowing us to Flash Clone as many Engineers as we could ever need.

Now, if I remember correctly Cortana could communicate with the Engineers. She did, after all, ask one to look at the Chief's armour and repair its shield system. Just how long, we'll have before the Covenant can put together their new fleet and send it to Earth we just don't know and as good as the engineers are, I don't think they do construction. I think grunt labor is just that, meant for Grunts.

Does anyone know the exact date when Halo 2 begins (besides November 9th)?
First Strike ends on September 13, 2552 and the Gettysburg is on its way to Earth. Knowing how much time is in between would be worth knowing.

another good point.

*scanning through halo 2 memories*

I dont believe that there is any info on the date the covie-convoy arrives at earth...........I wonder if any of the videos mention anything...........

I got no idea. I'd dare say that we wont know for a while yet.

Well, slipspace travel is unpredictable taking a different length of time for each journey between two points. That's caused the UNSC difficulty in performing fleet actions and why we fight primarily on a defensive stance.

The real question is how long it will take the Covenant to amass another fleet and get it to Earth. That could be anywhere between a week to a few months.

hey, do you guys remember when Dr. Halsey was inspecting the crystal with cortana aboard the Gettysburg, right after the weird-slipspace 'battle' with the covie ships.??

she mention something about that the crystal also bends or manipulated time as well.

of course travelling sub lightspeeds interferes wiht 'normal time' - but Dr. Halsey mentioned somethign along the lines that the MC and Cortana HAD to have been on Halo at that exact time to get the crystal and vice versa.

once again - if I have not got this 100% right I apologise, but have a look in the book around whereever that is mentioned and I am positive that there is this bizarre piece of convosation between cortana and Dr. Halsey.

yea she says that the crystal can bend time or something and it makes a slipspace jump a 100x faster or something like that then she realizes what this could mean if it got into ONI's hands or the Covies hands so she gives it to locklear and he destroys it

and with the theory thing i do think that in the long run (if there is a long run) that the engineers would turn the tide of the war but in like a week or what ever i dont think that they will be able to make THAT much of a difference.

Perhaps more then we know. If we have a couple of months before the Covenant arrive and we flash clone ten thousand engineers then we could build some interesting ships in that time, perhaps enough to slow the Covenant advance though I think not enough to hold them back.

Another interesting thing is... what if Cortana asked the Engineers to ask the Engineers in the attacking fleet to go on strike? What would happen? How necessary are the Engineers to running the ship?

that would be cool, but even if all the engineers me to our side, they still have elites, grunts, jackals, brutes, hunters, and prophets.

if the covenant didn't have the engineers they would be screwed. The prophets have the ability to unlock Forerunner secrets, but I doubt that they would lower themselves to technicians in the face of engineer-differment, based industrial action.
