I don't think it's a matter of legality. Look here: " PRIZE / WINNER SELECTION: Up to eight winners will be selected by Sponsor from all eligible entries received. Each entry will be judged for originality and creativity. Sponsor's selection of winners will take place on July 15, 2004 and will be in Sponsor's sole discretion and will be final. "
They are not legally obligated to assign a "win" to someone. They never said "At least one and up to eight", it gives them the right to cheese out at the last minute. That means they didn't see anything they liked or we all did the same thing.... which I highly, HIGHLY doubt. Encourage everyone who submitted (at least on this forum) to do a roll call here, to see if there are more than us nine.
Remember, no digital editing is allowed either, so if your photo smacks of digital modification, it could be disqualified, thusly negating your entry. "do not submit retouched or enhanced photos."
The real issue here is that the official rules haven't been updated to reflect the change in deadline. Here's what it seems like to me: None of the entries met with the judge's standards of "enthusiasm and energy for Mountain Dew and Halo 2", despite the fact that those that entered (at least those represented on this forum) doubtlessly display more energy and enthusiasm in their own way, through whatever hardwork they put into it. Not to mention it's 50% beauty pageant because they need to make us presentable in print ads, and that simply won't do with your average gamer. The winner will probably be some good-looking shmuck who thought it was a good idea to hold up the Halo box and chug a Mountain Dew in his picture with three of his friends cheering in the background, just because they're good-looking enough to print.
(yes. I'm ugly, and a beautiful-person hater).
In any case, with the revelation of the deadline, will a second entry be tolerated? It doesn't say anywhere in the official rules "one entry limit", it says up to two photos per entrant (the photo being only a piece of the Entry, with the essay as the other). Regardless, I forgot to put our ages in my entry, so does that disqualify it? And, if so disqualified, do I get to resubmit our (Corrected) entry with our ages attached?
Is it possible that EVERYONE who submitted screwed up some minor logisitical detail that we were ALL disqualified? Hrm. A curious thought.
