I forgot to mention that the 'MC gauntlet busting out of the TV'-team got robbed. No offence to 'Team Hunky'... : )

Here's where I'm not satisfied.

The contest was only advertised on Bungie. Nowhere on Mountain Dew's website was there any mention of this.

Bungie says they aren't involved in the promotion, but if it wasn't for Bungie and this site, then nobody would know about the contest.

Bungie allowed another company to take advantage of them and their fans, they WERE involved in the promotion, whether they say the are or not.

Did I lose any respect for Bungie? No. None. They advertised what they thought might make their fans happy, and they got screwed as much as we did.

Just about every company is about making money, like Pepsi, but I still feel that Bungie is here to make a great game that pretty much everyone will enjoy...and we all will, and they deserve every bit of money we give them.

I agree but I'm disappointed because I think Bungie should have known better. I can't help but think that if someone had really thought about what they were exposing their fan base to the contest would have been run a bit differently.

I live in North Carolina so I laughed out loud when I thought about what the contest was asking of myself and my friends. All the things that have been mentioned: time off work, money, booking flights, money, brainstorming for a great idea, money.

I guess I kinda wonder why Bungie would ask their friends (all of us) to do something like that. Know what I mean?

Well, for all you guys that are pissed for not winning....don't be! The morons never called us back or replied to our email. So it didn't matter after all, what you looked like or how buff (lol) you are. They are friggin morons that I will vow to destroy.

I new exactly what I was getting into. I new the rules and disclamier crap. I received an email that we won. We also spoke to them last night on the phone! I should have know something was up when I asked questions and they didn't have answers. If you were in charge of a contest wouldn't you know details of the contest? For the $1000 a person we would have to pay, I think it's fair to tell you if your playing multiplayer? A demo or the full blown game? How many maps can you play? Things like that?

They also said you MAY be in a moutain dew ad (like I care). Nothing was set in stone in this bull crap contest! I am so mad I could scream.

You know something is up when the contact number in the email is a cell phone. What the hell are they doing? They told me to call or email them with the confirmation of our team mates. We emailed them and left two messages! No friggin reply! Is there no one there to help the winners of the contest?

This is so much crap I am furious!!!!!!!!!!! Jason at Mountain Dew can kiss my @ss!!!!!!!!! I hope he loses his crap @ss job!!! Thanks for the call back -blam!-!!!!!!!!

The contest was held at a Microsoft building, so don't let them slide! They make billions of dollars, but no one can manage a friggin contest!!!!!!!

If you won, you would have been screwed....regardless of how creative! And yes, most were more creative than us!

Pepsi Company.......SUCKS.............

Microsoft SUCKS..............

Bungie is still cool, but you should have taken up for your fans.....

Don't worry about calling us now, because without a transporter, we can't make it!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh! And I think it would be pretty darn cool if someone (*cough* Bungie *cough*) convinced someone else (*cough* Pepsi *cough*) to reimburse those guys for their travel expenses.

If I read that they all paid a thousand dollars a head to play an hour and a half of Zanzibar, then ended up sleeping in a rental car that evening...

You guys seem to think that Bungie people are blind and got got side-swiped by the evil bastards at Pepsi. Well folks, Bungie isn't stupid. They say that they and Microsoft werent involved with the contest, but they obviously had to give some sort of approval for Pepsi to run the contest don't you think?

Greed runs the world my friends. Oh Im sure alot of the guys at Bungie care what we think but they and Pepsi and everyone else are out to make cash, not be your pals. Don't be naive.

Besides, people should have known that it was a crappy prize because if you had read the rules you knew that you would have to pay your way to the shoot, and Pepsi was only giving you $100 and a little bit of time to play a game that s gonna be here in only 4 months.

Oops. Nevermind : )

I think someone owes Rip and his crew an apology.

Sorry, Rip. I hope you didn't think it was a big pile-on you guys. I think most here are tapping their feet, checkin' their nails and shooting dirty, sideways looks at the Dew folks.

True, I hear you dude! It's the point of how it was handled. I would be fired from my job if I worked like this! We knew we had to front the bill, but couldn't someone give us a little notice? You can't expect someone to make it to WA in 24 hours and pay a crap load for them to make money. Just don't have the contest if your not going to do it right!

They also new last night that we were from the East coast! They told us to email them or call in the morning for confirmation and questions! Don't tell me that crap, if your going to ignore me! I highly doubt we could even make it now, regardless that I still don't have details! I'm not spending $1000 bucks for a few hours of Halo that probably isn't even the full blown game! I should have just went to E3 if I wanted to play mutliplayer! I could have least played other games as well.

Also, it is always about the money! Let's just say they shoot the Mountain Dew ad and it's placed in a video game magazine! Kids will start to associate Mountain Dew as being cool because of Halo. They might make a few million off the ad! Not only did they make a few bucks, but the suckers in the ad paid to be there. What kind of crap is that? I feel stupid for supporting this.

Unless you live in Redmond, don't feel bad about losing! If you live in Redmond, please go support two of the largest companies in the world by posing for free to make them more money!!! Your doing humanity a favor!

But then again it would be cool to play Halo 2! Damn, they keep sucking me in.......

Personally, I'd love to be a fly on the wall at the shoot when someone asks, "Where the heck are those guys?!" and someone else says,"Yeah. Who called 'em back to confirm?"

Oops! : )

Okay people, here's how I see it at this point (unfortunately). There never was an actual contest. This was simply a scam to get ideas from people for free. Otherwise why pick the group they did as the winners, and then not stay in contact with them. Reality is that this contest was total bogus.

On that note, Bungie/Microsoft are just as much to blame. This 'contest' was promoted only through them, and was addressed at their 'hardcore' fans.

There sure as hell better better be a frontpage explaination/apology real soon. The whole thing is crap.

Wow, the true creativity comes rolling out now! Nice work guys! This could have been a serious competition if it had actually been judged on SketchFactor:
how much you love playing Halo and drinking Mountain Dew (together). Don’t hold ANYTHING BACK – show us ENERGY and ENTHUSIASM – GO NUTS. You know what we’re talking about.

Our "essay" fashioned from the original announcementYou.
Your crew.
Halo 2.
And Dew.
At Xbox.

Me: Born November 9th, Halo2's my birthright.
My crew: Hardcore.
Halo2: We live for.
And Dew: Gives us the power to play more.
At Xbox.

For those that didn't see it earlier, pictures are here, that's EvilJester's ugly mug there, from when the great evil green empire ;)requested close up shots of everyone in our group. Guess we didn't have "the look" that they liked, huh? LOL

Kudos to all the great entries; I would definitely give the "hand from TV" entry a win though. To the team that did win, you got screwed over pretty bad.

Glad I didn't enter; check this out:
"<i>All prizes must be claimed within two (2) days of first notification of winner by Sponsor by the mailing to Sponsor of an Affidavit of Eligibility and Liability/Publicity Release to Sponsor at the address indicated in such notification. </i>
(From the official thingy: here)

And I think that Microsoft/XBox is definitely complicit for pushing this scam as they did; look here for example.

Not sure how Bungie can ignore this; especially once more people get involved...

Man this is -blam!-... but honestly for $500 the HALOID guys could easily make it to M$ to play some Halo 2. Shoot we made it to Salt Lake for a tournament on about $30 bucks each. Ended up winning almost enough to pay it back....

Thats sucks for you guys Rip. Good job on winning though.

You all are acting like little kids.
If you can't accept that you lost, then don't tell us about it.
In fact, Rip, sure, the competition shouldn't have been poorly structured, but then you shouldn't have got your hopes up. Frankly, I would have tried, but it's not that I live 12 hours away (by plane), but I didn't think I would stand a chance against all your kickass ideas. In fact, I had one where I would set up all my halo action figures on a can of mountain dew and have them watching a game of halo.

I dunno if you think that's good or not, but it definitely beats the crap out of losing and whining that they couldn't pick a better one, or in this case, winning and whining that they can't set up the competition properly.
You know, it's my lifelong dream to see Bungie, or maybe even work there one day. But to win a competition to do it and be negative about it, then I would rather not be there at all.

So, have I lost faith in Bungie from all the stories I've read here today about a very poorly designed competition?
No, I've lost faith in the fans.

Gah, sorry Rip. I didn't read all the posts up until yours, and now I gotta agree with you on everything, Dew and Microsoft can kiss my ass. They don't have the right to get anyones hopes up like that then just blow 'em off.. ehh *sigh* I guess I've rambled enough on these forums.. I mean hell, the only reason I signed up was to protest the deadline extension. Looks like it was a waste of time though.

Oh well..

"Michael M", you are an absolute ass for saying that you've "lost faith in the fans". How could you possibly say something so stupid? You didn't even invest in the competition by entering, and you have the nerve to bash the people that did and got screwed?

Go away you moron, and stay off of this forum until you have something intelligent to say.

I feel like I should post again in reply to all of this.. but I really dunno what else to say other then like most of you I still hold very high respects for Bungie and the entirety of the Halo/Halo2 team. I for one don't feel I'm acting like a child, at least not fully. You have to keep in mind, alot of us lost things by committing ourselves to this contest in hopes of winninng, especially those in the first week who tried to meet the first short deadline. As stated in my other posts I lost a more than a fair amount of sleep and quite a bit of money trying to just get my foot in the door with this thing. If anything I think Rip has more then enough right to be as pissed as he is, as should anyone else who clearly got burned.

So while you may not think very highly of us fans for taking this so sourly, Michael, it's the only way we can truly express ourselves in this kind of situation.
