Subject: Its been a while ... Halo Combat Evolved on legendary

Loss of the Sniper isn't a huge problem. Just have to change the way you think.
There are two places to hide on that side of the bay without being overwhelmed. The series of crates next to the Overshield (near the exit to the next level) and the pile of crates in the dark corner near the hunter entry door. Lurking in these areas is relatively safe. Use a needler and plasma pistol combo to take care of jackals that are above you. Try to take out the grunts on the walkway directly above the overshield before the hunters enter. Dancing with two hunters is easy as long as there are no grunts needling you while you are occupied.
I've done T&R from start to finish without using the sniper on legendary. The hardest part was the very beginning. After you get used to the idea of not having it it's pretty easy to get along without it.

Suck it Red!

I love just messing around on easy or normal and just prayin' and sprayin'. But for advice on legendary, the Magnum is the best and the plasma rifle I guess. I havn't played Halo 1 in a few months.

Use the Plasma Pistol to take out Sentinels. In the Silent Cartographer you can lure the hunters over the edge (both inside and outside) to their dooms.

What ?

My advice is this: If you can run, and live, do it! Sometimes it's a lot easier if you just find a way to run through some parts.

An example would be on "Two Betrayals", where you make your way down the summit. Batting/killing every enemy there can just plain-out take forever -- and then the Wraith can take you out in an instant, making all your work for nothing.

I just ran down the side before anyone noticed me, and made a bum-rush to the Banshee =3

and then the Wraith can take you out in an instant

Not if you get the elite who boards it first with the sniper. And if you're fast :)

This'll do it. I take him out, then sometimes go around everything, and board the Banshee from behind.

Just be patient, and stay behind cover as much as possible. The hardest level for me is Two Betrayals by far, it's long and difficult since you face a wide variety of enemies. I actually find getting on the lift in T&R harder than the battle after getting off the lift. Also, manipulate checkpoints to your advantage. Sometimes the game doesn't give you checkpoints at spots where it should. Sometimes you have to kill all enemies or you can go back past a certain point again to get an extra checkpoint, if you go for a long time without getting one you probably missed the last one. Almost anyone with a decent amount of skill can get through the game on legendary, but to actually do it you need the patience to do so.
