I have a question about the charging.

I'm not complaining because I know it cost money to do this but I was wondering why the difference.

over at www.easportsworld.com you can upload Madden Highlights, download them to your computer, it also hyper links to post on myspace, facebook etc.

http://www.easportsworld.com/en_US/video/3643023

Now I know it is not the best quality of video, but it is pretty good for SD and it is also free. And what I am wondering is how they are able to do that for free for so many users while Bungie is making a similar product that is probally going to cost an unknow price per minute? And you also have to purchase Bungie Pro.

I'll try to answer your question to the best of my knowledge.

When Halo 3 saves a video, it's not saved in what you would think as video format. It's not a WMV or an AVI or anything, it's a special file that contains information, like what map, who's there, and who saved the clip. It also most likely contains pathing information on where you and others walk, and what information you were sending to the host (like 'I threw a grenade in this direction at this time' or 'I was shooting a BR at Lukems when he was teabagging my teammate'), which would take far less data storage then the high definition 1080p videos that you can render. Halo 3 can then essentially using all the data in the file, recreate exactly what happened in the recording time.

Madden, on the other hand, for one, has a lot less to keep track of, and it was likely designed to do that from the beginning. It may have the files automatically rendered to video because it's a low quality and they can handle the storage of it. Halo 3 was not designed to do this originally. Think of this service as 'We take your videos, run them through our Xbox 360 consoles here, capture them to a certain resolution of file with a capture card, then upload them to our server and allow you to download them.' It's a lot of work, and a hell of a lot of technology that goes into something like this, especially in HD rendering. That's why there's a charge for this, not for Madden. The product you are getting here is far better, they are giving you an awesome feature that will be one of their most resource-intensive public features available, and it wasn't even meant to do this originally.

Essentially what I'm trying to say is, it's not going to be super expensive, it's awesome, get used to it. :)

[As of October 2012]
2013 ADFA Officer Cadet of the RAAF (Aerospace Engineer Electronics Officer).

Nice work Bungie!
The only thing I've noticed is that the last 3-4 seconds of my recorded vid (78100406) were either cut off or just filled with nothing, I personally don't really care but I'm just curious as to whether this will be in the final product.

I could see some people complaining about this though, having "wasted" a point because their recorded film ended right after the key moment or something.

Does anyone even read these?

I noticed that the reticle in my film here isn't showing up, is that some kind of glitch?

I would guess it has to do with something along the lines of the fact the clip started with you scoped on your sniper rifle. It might re-render correctly. Also, it was you that the camera was following, not someone else? Because you can't get the first person view of someone else when capturing, I don't believe.

Looks like I'll be going Bungie Pro to celebrate Bungie Day.

And that video was Standard Def right? Already looked pretty damn good.

I guess I saw the Bungie Points thing coming. Its too huge of an undertaking to let loose completely for free. It makes sense and I'm happy that the fine folks at Bungie managed to get it out.

Sorry Bungie, but there are still a few kinks to sort out. I tried to click on the embeded version to see some epicness, but I was rewarded with Mozilla Firefox crashing!!! NOOOOOOO!!! Anywho...sadness for me.

Hope it's all working soon!

Maybe it was just coincidental, because my computer was able to view embedded videos. And if my computer can do it, anyones can.

If any Bungie Staff read this, please tell me (send me a message) when this is going to be fully released because I am entering a school film festival in september and I need to know when It will be released so I can start editing for it. Thankyou. :)

The way to switch between first and third person while watching a film is clicking the right stick. As for the reticle, press b while attached to a person to cycle through views until you get the one you want.

Bungie points? Really? we already pay for pro with microsoft points, we already pay for gold with just plain regular money and now this???

though its a cool feature, i doubt it would be worth it. No offence meant to those currently working on it.

I mean, WTF!!!!?!?!?!!?!? JESUS, we dont just grow money on tree's FFS!

Known by some, but not by all.
Soffish: Do not eat!
TWP Assistant Director.

I copied and pasted this from my post in Halo3 forums...

This is great and it works well. I did a few test renders of old videos just to see how they turned out in low res, lol because I need to save some points. Obviously one needs to carefully record the video in theater first on your XBOX 360 to come out with a good video. After that though, it's gold. (At least to the author of the video lol)

For the Nay Sayers...the points are free if you wait and store them up, for now. But in the future if one has to pay for points...no one is making you pay...you don't have to use the service.

Solution: I say keep the accumulation system where if you wait...points are added over time...but if you absolutely need to have points at any given moment you can pay for them.

That way everyone is happy and one can render that "OMG I'm firin mah lazah eyeeah!" that kills all 8 people on the other team at once video to show all your friends on the spot if needed. If not save up points...

All in all...this video rendering thing is a good thing...Thank you Bungie.

  • 05.13.2009 9:13 AM PDT

wow i just renderd a standard definition video of one of my friends clips, and i have to give it to you bungie, you certainly know how to impress!! great work on the beta cant wait for the full thing to be available,

just like to say thankyou very much!! i love you everyone at bungie!! hehe,

just a suggestion, but will there be any sign of some free mind editing attached to the render programme? a bit like forge, but your able to edit the video once its recorded, such as increase brightness or add effect, not any thing 2 fancy just simple stuff, in a sence. just wondering if it would be possible?

any one comment back, thanks

Also, this is a message replying to all people against the idea of "Bungie Points". This is a great idea as it allows time between 1; each person wanting to render a video; 2, how many times you can render a video, because if you get tons and tons of people rendering viedos left right and centre, then surely the server wont be able to cope, and neither will the godly bungie staff, even with all their Master Chief capabilities, (even though a few of them work so hard they look like the Arbiter at the end of it.) never the less, "Bungie Points" is a great feature to the rendering video, as there is a saying, "Patience Is The Key" so just wait a short while, get recording your fun packed films, and once you have the points, use them wisely. because im certain that you will all record your "EPIC" films and render it asap, when if you just take your time you could of recorded and even better clip, so if you have these points then it slows you down and gives you time to create you clips in the best possible way.

So, good luck filming everyone and thanks again bungie i love you all! (even the Gorrila like creatures in the *Enter Section Here*, because i know there are atleast 10, hehe).

You should go with the capture card setup if you're going to be editing WMV's. If you go with the capture card, there will be no loss in quality and your film will look all the more impressive
