Halo 1 & 2 for PC

Subject: Halo PC 1.08 killing framerate?

I have a very, very strange problem. I'll make it as understandable as possible in the hopes that someone can help me.

HALO PC v1.08:
- When out of INTERNET games (ie when playing campaign, or LAN) my FPS is 200+ with everything maxed.
- When IN internet game (any server, any ping) my FPS will usually NOT go above 25 or so, even when staring at the floor or a wall. It's like it has some sort of "cap" on it.

HALO CE v1.08
- When IN internet game (any server, any ping) I get 200+ FPS. Same exact settings as in PC 1.08. What in the world...?

HALO TRIAL
- When in game (any server, any ping) FPS over 200 as well...

So something, somewhere on my computer or in Halo PC is KILLING my framerate when in internet games only, and only on PC and not in CE or the Trial version. This did NOT happen before 1.08. Also, it's not a matter of having a computer that "can't run" the game. It shouldn't be my internet either, as I'm on cable and both CE and Trial do not have this issue.

I keep the same settings for all three versions (pc 1.08, ce 1.08, trial). I have NO idea what could possibly be causing this. I've tried multiple drivers for my nvidia card, different locations for the 1.08 download (thinking it was corrupt), but it looks like everything I try just isn't working. And it shouldn't be anything to do with my hardware/drivers if it works well with CE and Trial, so... what, then?

Any ideas?

edit -- I should note that I have reinstalled multiple times, scanned for spyware/viruses, etc... so, I'm not so sure it's that either.

edit 2 -- I should also add that when i die, my frames jump back over 200. this is just weird.

Here you will need this to help you get your foot out of the back of your throat, looks llike its in there pretty deep. And what is that on your face? Egg?! *hands Kim a washcloth*

specs including os? Sorry but 1.08 works for hundreds, thousands of other people. It's not the problem in and of itself.

Well, if you insist.

AMD X2 3800+
2 GB RAM
Windows XP 32 bit
7800 GT OC

No, it's not "up to date" but it ran Halo fine on max settings just a few months ago. And yes, I made it run on only one processor and not both.

I also forgot some other details: changing the settings from high to low gives me maybe 5 more FPS in an online game and over 100 in campaign/on LAN. But, once again, it works fine in CE and Trial.

Maybe it has something to do with my internet, but I dunno, since i don't have the issue in any other games. Another thought: my hdd sounds like it's going to die after about a half hour in game. Maybe it's my hdd going kaput?

And yes, this is all really happening.

JUMP FEET FIRST INTO HELL!!

why would you ever let a game run over 60fps? or whatever your monitors refreash rate may be.when you let your games fps run faster than your refreash rate horizontal screen tearing happens everytime you look around. i say you run vsync for the best image quality.

My own website and clan

yes but 25 fps is laggy...

anyway i got the same problem with my nvidia card...
after i upgraded to an ati card the problem was solved.
nvidia's drivers or just -blam!- and they don't even listen when consumers point out the bugs...
