I just played Halo 2 earlier today, maybe hoping to relive a few fon memories.
While playing, I realized something - they're jus that; found memories, and nothing else. And like all memories, we tend to embelise them a bit. After playing Halo 2 again, I am thankful for everything we have in Halo 3. No ungodly auto-aim, no ridiculous game-breaker glitches, no obscenely poor weapon balance, a more fluid pace and movement, tighter controls and gameplay are just of few of the things Halo 3 has that Halo 2 doesn't.
Sure we remember Halo 2 as being some great golden Goddess of gaming back in the day.....but back then, we didn't know any better. And now that we have something to compared it to, we see how oxidized she really was. We may have really loved her, but we have to let go sometime.
So let Halo 2 stay in the anals of our memory, pristine and untouched, and only come out occasionally for the late-night LAN parties for a change of pace.
I agree with you for the most part except for the fluid pace. Halo 3 has better graphics than Halo 2, but it was poorly polished. Halo 2 is much more polished in my opinion and has much more fluid controls/movement.
An example I find interesting is crouch jumping in both games. Watch someone jump and crouch in Halo 2 and then watch someone in Halo 3. Definitely a step back.
