Okay guys, Some people say that the original spartans (the greek ones in real history) were the only predecessors to the SPARTAN II project. but I have proof from The Fall of Reach and The Flood.

In The Fall of Reach on page 39 the original historic spartans are discussed:

"...Deja started to tell them about a battle and how three hundred soldiers (spartans) fought against thousands of Persian infantry."

These were the greek spartans.. the ones that we should have learned about in High School History class. Now in The Flood on page 16 William C. Dietz talks alittle about the SPARTIN Is or the ORION project.

"In order to deal with increasing civil turmoil the Colonial Millitary Administration had secretly launched project ORION back in 2491. The purpose of the program was to develop supersoldiers, code named "spartans," who would recieve special traning and physical augmentation. The inital effort was successful, and in 2517 a new group of Spartans, the II series, had been selected as the next generation of supersoldier."

This clearly states that there was a spartian project before the SPARTAN IIs and that the SPARTAN Is were not the historic Greek spartans.

Did you read with the lights off?

In order to deal with increasing civil termoil the Colonial Miltairy Administration had secretly launched project ORION back in 2491. The purpose of the program was to developed super soldiers code named Spartans, who would recieve special training and augmentation.

The initial effort was succesfull( which means they are still out there(Library)) and in 2517 a new group of Spartans, "the II series, had been selcted as the next generation of supersoldier.

Well what do you know, I actually looked something up. You know these books are full of usefull tid bits just like that.

I see how you could think that, ODST 19, but why would there be a new generation of supersoldiers in 2517 if theyre hadnt been a "original generation" of them earlier. (and the historic spartans cant be the first generation... "supersoldier" implys phsyical augmentation.. I dont think they had technology like that back then.)

Do you read with the lights off, or perhaps do you not know the finer points of the English language.

All of your "theory", you insult people based on is based on this single statement.
The inital effort was successful, and in 2517 a new group of Spartans, the II series, had been selected as the next generation of supersoldier.
The subject of this sentence is the Spartans II's. Nowhere here, nor in the previous paragraph does it mention Spartan I's. The initial effort was the Spartan II's.

Now, expand your mind, go further looking for evidence, consume the entire paragraph.

We know from the books that John is about forty years old, necessary to establish a timeline. Thus, it's important to find out when he was six years old, when he was selected to be "the next generation of supersoldier" 2552 subract 2517 is... 35. Since John was selected at age 6 for the Spartan II project and he's currently about 40 you know it's clear that the group in 2517 where his Spartan II's.

So, here's how it happened. In 2491, Project Orion was given the task of developing a Super Soldier. What followed was 26 years of reseach and development. At which time, the Spartan II's were selected. In 2517, John at age 6, along with 75 others were inducted into the program.

Yea the first spartan armour was also powerfull and normal humans couldnt control it it would shatter their bones and stuff. So they had to wait till the super kids came along and they did what any german olympic team would do and got pumped up. Hence making them able to do cool shiznit. They got newer armour also.

With B.B. gone, the passion of Bungie.net has lessened.

Guys, he's right. SPARTAN Is were real, they were before the Master Chief's time, and they were not the Greek Spartans. Read The Flood. His quote is word-for-word. But, those SPARTAN-Is were probably no where near as powerful as the SPARTAN-IIs...

And because of the not-so-oldness of SPARTAN-Is, I have a suspicion that Mendez was one of those "original" SPARTANs.

Thats just a suspicion... I have no evidence other than Mendez's "mechanical" character (which can just be a description... not really a hint towards anything), and I don't expect you to believe it.

And, if there were no SPARTAN-Is, who were the original generation of supersoldiers? That quote clearly states that the II series was the next generation.

The Spartans of Greece were not supersoldiers... Just human soldiers that fought and claimed a tactical victory against near-impossible odds, even though they really lost... same goes for the Alamo, which was also mentioned in the books.

You've honestly never heard of the phrase "Next Generation"? It merely means an improvement over older versions of itself. Spartan II's are the next generation of Supersoldier but that isn't to be taken literally.

Halo2 is the "next generation" of video games, not because it had a predecessor but because it's that much better then others of its kind coming out at the same time. Heck, the Xbox was hailed as the Next Generation of console gaming... and it surely didn't have any predecessor.

Alright, since I have no way to respond to that in typed words, I'll just leave the thread to your own thoughts....

In other words, I'm giving up... something I'm starting to do more often in these forums...

Did you read with the lights off? As I suspected he HAD already read the book and was not just reading it while he WAS typing.

Although my default language isn't English, this has nothing to do with my comprehension of past and present.

Show me where the Spartan I's fit into the timeline. Show my your comprehension of past and present.

Now for English... The initial effort of who or what? In English, when the subject of a clause is not stated one referrs backwards to the previous sentences to the determine the subject. The only subject of the previous two sentences is Project Orion.

The initial effort [of Project Orion] was successful, and in 2517 a new group of Spartans, the II series, had been selected as the next generation of Super Soldier.
