With B.B. gone, the passion of Bungie.net has lessened.

I'm going to kill this thread:

We don't know anything. Only Bungie does. We'll never determine how they name things.

That's fine by me. I just don't believe that there's definitive proof that the Spartan I's existed.
They may have but a single sentence from a single source just doesn't do it for me.

the otsds were the spartan 1s, and you are a spartan 2, why on earth would you even think that the greek spartans were the spartan 1 project. the greeks lived 7000 years before this story even takes place!

It could well be an honorific, an homage, a sign of respect for history and the ancient Spartan's to name John and his fellows as Spartan II's.

The Idea that ODST's are Spartan 1's... well... I'd like to see your theory on that. Cull forth thy citations good sir. You have piqued my interest.

There are no Spartan I's the greek spartans are the spartan I's thats why they call the new ones Spartan II's because they are the second ones, (after the greek Spartans). Just for an idea of how good the original spartans were:

At thermopyle 300 King leonidis (spartan king) told 500 athenians to flee to safety while the spartans hold off the persians. What happened was the 300 spartans killed over 12,000 persians before being betrayed by a bribed athenian who told the persians about a secret pass that would lead the persians around the spartans and behind them. The persians surrounded the spartans and killed them. If the spartans hadnt been betrayed they had a chance of killing all 20,000 persians and winning the battle. Thats how powerful they were.

the odsts are genetically enhanced, they are tougher than normal marines, but their bodys are natural, and that is the only difference besides the spartan 2s thinking even faster and such.

Nowhere have I read that the ODST's are genetically enhanced.... and that conflicts with your next statement that the ODST's are completely natural.

Very good research jj, couldn't have done better myself. And to clear everything up for everyone he is right, and the Master Chief and the other surviving Spartans IIs are all 41.
Lets do some math here for the Spartans from Project ORION:
If they were abducted at the age of 6 in the year 2491 then those Spartan Is would either be dead from combat or 61 years old meaning they are most likely no longer in combat, but may still be in the UNSC as an officer out of combat. In the Fall of Reach when the Master Chief is in the board room being question about his actions on Sigma Octanus 4, there is one man who seems to be on the Chiefs side and seems almost to "protect" him from some of the angry comments that other officers on the ONI board are making toward the Chief. Could this just be a coincidence? Or could it be that this one man knows how it feels to be a Spartan so he would know how it feels to go through what the Chief and the other Spartan IIs have gone through.

This is just speculation, but knowing how Spartans act and how they believe their home is in the military than there must be some of the original Spartan Is still in the service as officers. Now that Reach had fallen there just may be other surviving Spartan I officers scattered throughout UNSC controlled space and possibly Earth.
There are many outcomes and possibilities, and they are all very, very interesting.

To clear this up for all of you. Every single officer, soldier, etc. in the UNSC has to have a neural implant put into their brain so they are able to interface with equipment and other soldiers in the UNSC. But the thing is most of these people join at an older age and have finished developing, but in the Spartan IIs case they were only 14 and were stilling growing and changing. When some of their brains sensed this new factor entering their thoughts some of their minds literally collasped. That is why so many Spartans died during the augmentation and neural implant surgery. They were too young to handle the serious changes in their mind and body.

How do you know there were Spartans in Project Orion? The purpose of the Project was to develop Spartans. That's uniquely different then implementing them.

Secondly, if there were Spartan I's why does no-one ever mention them? The Spartan II's were famous long before they were issued their Mjolnir armour. Where these Spartan I's so utterly pathetic that they didn't even earn any respect? Why didn't they tell John and his fellows about the Spartan I's?

Thirdly, if there were Spartan I's, why is it that when Halsey is doing the augmentations it is clear that these augmentations have never been done before? Why is it so surprising that the number of casualties far exceed their projections?

Fourth and lastly, another thing is that if the Spartan project was Dr. Halsey's baby, the reason why Ackerson despises her. How could she have been there at the very beginning of the Spartan project when she would have been in diapers?

Dill, where did you get this idea? The neural implants were never a factor in the deaths of the Spartans. There were five enhancements given to the Spartans, each one having its own possible side effects. Check out Pg. 57 of Fall of Reach.

I have read Fall of Reach three times and I know the effects of the augmentations. We don't know how all of the Spartans IIs died after the augmentations. I'm just saying that what I mentioned could have been a factor, since when working on the brain the smallest mistake could end in death.

Then you're claiming conjecture as certified fact. We don't even know when the Neural implantation took place. It may not have been, and likely wasn't, done at the same time as the augmentations.

Dr. Halsey wasn't one to apply needless risks to her children, her Spartans.

Sheilds block arrows...When infantry run sheilds are up. Meaning the archers sometimes would get lucky. Not every arrow would hit...short or long..or just miss.
In my eyes 300 men killing over 1000 men are super soilders. Maybe the Spartans were the first but I dont think so.

You dont need to make a First Spartan to have a second. Lets say the First Spartan is 99% complete and then you have more ideas but have no room to put them into effect. So you would need start over with your brand new idea. Which would make a brand new Spartan.

Another idea the Very first spartan was considered a beta and had room to improve and when the improvements were put into effect the new Spartan was so diffrent from the orignal idea that it would be a new kind of Soilder.

These are opinions and I dont mean to offend anyone. By the way these are breif ideas.
I am most likely wrong in every way. But no one knows
