Subject: Locking Possibility for Non-Mods

With B.B. gone, the passion of Bungie.net has lessened.

Even though we have the right to edit our own posts, perhaps we should have the power to lock certain threads that we create? Just a suggestion... if its not possible, then I will understand.

A good example of why I think this:
I find myself wanting my own threads locked after becoming disappointed in them (like the Create an Alien thread... what a disappointment that turned out to be <sigh>). If I had the power to lock them myself (so I wouldn't have to bear with seeing them become what I didn't want them to be), I wouldn't have to bug the Mods and make them lock it...

Or maybe I just need to lighten up?

I like that idea. The only way I could see it being misused is if someone starts a good thread and then overreacts to a few stupid posts.

I don't think so. Locking is a moderator's job. If you don't like the way a post drifts, learn from it and watch how you post next time.

yoo•zel- ('yoo-zhul): slang: vb.

Officium quod Fidelitas.

It's best to leave it up to the mods, if your thread goes sour, tell us. We'll be on it like a fat kid on a cup cake.

I know many of the mods' contact information, and can sometimes reach them quickly.

So if they're not browsing but I am, give me a PM and I'll AIM them.

  • 07.15.2004 8:23 PM PDT

bah

Naw, just PM them. If it's an emergency, you'll have to just wait a bit for one to come on. Do what I do, I keep a text document on my desktop for miscellaneous stuff, like reminders and url's I don't want to bookmark. I'll just copy down the url's of spam and wait for a mod to come on, then I PM them with all the links.

I have all of the mods profiles bookmarked for easy PMing.

I think a post/thread marking system similar to the one employed by GameFaqs would be a highly effective all in one solution. A single button press instantly alerts all of the mods. The more members that mark a post, the higher it's alert priority is.

I'll take all those replies (minus the first 2) as a, "You need to lighten up, Shai..." reply...

i would leave it to the mods...we dont have the judgement to know when we should lock our own threads...anyways if a thread of yours gts out of hand just message the mods about it

With B.B. gone, the passion of Bungie.net has lessened.

Thats what I do... But if I could do it myself, it would save the Mods the trouble and the time.

I would like the ability do delete my own threads or be able to lock them if I wanted. I really don't see anything wrong with being able to do that.

But, it would decrease the mods' power by a large measure. Just a thought.

thats a pretty cool idea tho, im back after few days of looking at 4 other forums, mainly for updates and stuff related to HL2,.... heheh they release something cool and are doing more work on it to fix it up, ill write it backwards since i dont want trouble..
( ( yeht detrop retnuoC ekirtS otni 2LH dna tliuber emos spam gnisu eht ecruos enigne, a niatrec nosrep etorw a margorp ot teg ti gnikrow enilno..)) cool eh?,.............

it wouldnt decrease their power if they had the option to reopen the topics if they saw fit,.....

I agree with Banshee on this, I would love at least the power to lock something I created, if not delete it. This is especially useful since, for some odd reason, I get people in my posts that prefer just to ignite someone's temper within it.

And, yes, unforatunately it would decrease the power of the mods, slightly.

EDIT: I would also appreciately the ability to reach through the screen and slap somebody :-p

I think that deleting would be a good idea (as with other forums).

See? I'm not completely out of line in suggesting this... Even a mod agrees with it...

Well... a type of it, since "Deleting" was Barron's idea... "Locking" would definitely get abused... people would create a thread, and lock it, then go to whatever Forum's mainpage and say, "Heh, check it out: Thats my post that I locked." In deleting, the post would disappear completely, and you wouldn't be able to see what it was, or whether or not it was ever even there...

Perhaps if a Titling system goes into effect for certain users, those who get some "high-up" titles could have the power to lock their own threads? They could be considered as "Lesser Mods."

"Lesser Mod" should never be considered as a title, though, since its almost meaningless.

Example: "Why should I listen to you? You're only a Lesser Mod... No real power except over yourself... not over others. Stop bossing people around."

I never really liked the idea "lesser mods". They are simply people nominated for the mod job, but didn't make it. And by giving them these lesser powers, you just might aswell give them full mod privs. But that's what i think.
