With B.B. gone, the passion of Bungie.net has lessened.

In the beginning of First Strike, Cortana notices (while she's in the Ascendant Justice) that there are Covenant ships inbound to Halo's system after Halo was destroyed... She thinks its something like a memorial service dedicated to Halo.

In the Flood, 343 Guilty Spark specifically states that he is self-repairing (which is why he can't be killed by known weapons). ... What if he isn't the only thing that is self-repairing? I'm thinking more along the lines of Halo itself. Maybe the Covenant were going there to watch the self-reconstruction of the Halo construct. Although Cortana should've known that it would be self-repairing (if it was), she was overlooking and neglecting some important information during the course of that book, due to the mass Halo data... maybe when she got into the Control Center she overlooked that aspect, too.... If she did, that'd be a kick in the pants, wouldn't it? That would give 343 reason to hunt Cortana down in Halo 2 and get the index back, so he'd be able to activate Halo (since he might be programed to do so when there is a Flood outbreak.... and its possible that the destruction of Halo didn't convince him that the Flood on that Halo were completely killed).

Just something to think about.

Wow ... good point ...

But its kinda hard to repair what isnt there. Most of Halo was vaporized ...

but ... then it would make sence ...

Most of Halo wasn't vaporized... there were huge chunks of it still floating around. There was the damage done to the radius of the explosion, and after that, its described that Halo tore itself apart. Thats why there were several chunks. Perhaps they have some fail-safe mechanism that allows them to manuver back together. And also maybe it can recreate the particles that were vaporized.... with the Forerunners' technology this ins't that far fetched.

I don't ever remember hearing or reading anything about a memorial service or Halo reconstructing it self or the Monitor doing likewise for that matter. Please point out exctly where it says " A memorial service" and this supposed recontructing self in the books or game. And be exact or I will have to say you are wrong on this.

It didn't say that. It said something like that. Maybe not a memorial service, I think it said dedication, though.... Gimme a minute to check.

............................................................. ...........

Here we go. I was wrong, it said, "dignitary." Sorry.

Dignitary is a person who holds high office... I had thought it said something else. I apologize for bad memory.

"Cortana's decryption of the Covenant communiques (accent on e) referencing the 'holy one' finally cycled to a halt. The language in them was unusually ornate--even more so than the florid prose of the higher-ranking Elites. It was impossible to develop a literal translation, but she gleaned that some dignitary was due at the Halo construct. Soon.

This visitor was so important that these warships were only the advance scouting party. More ships were on their way. Hundreds of them."

Even though it said dignitary, it seems to me that so many Covenant ships going to the ruins of a holy structure would only go there make some sort of dedication to it... If they were being sent to scavenge the ruins, then still... why so many?
