With B.B. gone, the passion of Bungie.net has lessened.

How did you go about choosing the names for the aliens in Marathon? Was there a specific way you did it, with reason, or was it just random letters (example: Z' Xynn)?

Yeah, you got to sometimes wonder where they came up with all that stuff. Like “W'rkncacnter” for instance. How in hell did they think that one up? Oh, wait, Jones is a stoner. That would explain it.

(Well, there goes my chance of ever working at Bungie. Although, Kirkpatrick was the one that wrote most of Marathon’s storry….)

It's like any game or movie you ever watch... they always have wierd names for things because they don't speak english. I wouldn't think that "The Covenant" is tehir name in their own tongue, but that is a translation into english. Same goes for all the other names like Elite, Grunt, etc. They are probably nicknames.

When you look at Marathon you can see the same things. They are the Pfhor, and then there are english classifications of them- fighter, hunter, enforcer, etc.

When you do Sci-fi writing like this you have to toss in some weird names, it makes it more believable... and gives us something to talk about! ;-)
