I've noticed that not many people use The Underground anymore,
so I was wondering if any of you guys had ideas that would spark
the interest of all the new people in the old school ways of Bungie.
There has been pretty good spark in The Underground with the
availible downloads of Marathon and the great threads that
followed, but the masses of people coming in don't seem to want
to discuss these games, and that's what a forum is for! (duh)
I discovered Marathon while looking through the Halo Story Page,
and I'm dissapointed to see that there aren't more people digging
into the rich history of Bungie.
Help revive the Underground and post your ideas!

Decreased Undeground activity is to be excpected when the forums are divided this much. It just shows you the percentage of Bungie fans who love Bungie for more than just Halo.

I mean, look at the Septagon, it's less active than the UG. This lets people discuss the board's intended subjects unhindered by extraneous posts.

I'm a grunty Halo fan, but I've played all the other Bungie games, and to tell you the tru7h, they just weren't Halo.

You guys are right. Quality over quantity. While the discussions in
the UG are slow, they're awesome.
Thanks for the response. It's always good to know where the
community stands on stuff like this.

The Underground is the only place I visit, this is about my 2nd time in here! Personally there is already too much Halo in the Underground for me to ever bother looking in the other forums. It's not that I don't like the game, but I don't think it's as full of character as Marathon.

But I have to say, one of the main reasons I keep coming back is for the "Mulling Over Marathon" thread, great stuff eMCee. And what happened to you RN54?

Well that's my 2 cents ;-)

With B.B. gone, the passion of Bungie.net has lessened.

I think the decreased Underground activity is a little sad.... The Underground was one of the oldest... if not THE oldest... The only other I remember being old is the Septagon... The Maw is relatively new, and all the others out-new that...

The Underground's been around forever (well, since the forum was launched). The Septagon's been around since Chapter Founders (surprisingly new - only a couple of days before the European Xbox launch).

I think that the Underground and New Mambasa should join into one forum. For one, the Underground has been next to killed by it's recent reclassification. While at New Mambasa there aren't any new topics. If you put them together you may have a winner. Plus, having 6 large forums to search through is a bit much. As it is each one is a bit watered down.

Personally, I liked it when we just had three major forums. Everything was eiser then. But that's just me.

The Undeground, the Halo boards and New Mombasa are separate so that the old school topics aren't lost under all the Halo and Halo 2 threads.

Actually, more people posted Bungie related and old school related materal when all of the forums were one because the old Underground seemed more accessable. Now almost no one asks those questions there anymore because most of the new Underground's posters are forum veterans that already have the answers.

Compare the number of members pre- and post-new hotness. Now add everyone who will join after Halo 2 is released. Most of them will only post about Halo and Halo 2. And now they have nice boards to do it on, rather than filling up The Underground.

Hmm, point taken I guess. Though I'm still afraid The Underground will be overlooked even when thousands more flood in after Halo 2. They will have no need to look at the past- they only care about the future.

The mob of angry peasants also has one of the oldest forums. Number 4. That was cool...Heh totally dead now, though.

joining the Underground and New Mombasa is a very bad idea... as is I am swamped with far too many Halo fans with a lack of respect for the older games, and find myself constantly wading through the forum searching for non-Halo posts...
I don't hate Halo, but I'm not up with the hype on it... quite frankly, it's mainly the fan base of Halo that puts me off ever going through the forums, I'm sick to death of the 12-15 yr olds who think they're all that because they can beat the game, and then they come on making stupid posts that waste space and aggrevate people like me.

I'd like to see more activity underground, but if pulling more Halo-ness into it is the only way to do so, then I say 'no' it's better to stick with a smaller group.
