Subject: 360 controller for halo 1 question

I've been playing a lot of halo 3 lately, but i no longer have access to a 360, but i do have a laptop with halo 1 and the wireless receiver thing. i get it all set up to use the controller instead of the keyboard and mouse, and when i finish a map online or decide to quit, it hangs then crashes. i know i should probably just get used to using the touch pad, but if i could, i'd rather used my controller. thanks for the help.

To put it simply, trying to use the 360 controller for Halo 1 PC will leave you sore.

It just... well, doesn't work - and Halo PC wasn't proprietarily built to "support" the Xbox 360 controller. Meaning, the drivers are balls, and it's up to the game to implement support for the controller.

It's not very fun constantly moving to the left (dead-zone issues), and having to scout the Internet for non-sucky X360 controller drivers >=[

Yes, I am a hypocrite, and I'm sorry. I really do mean well, but I'm not running on all cylinders.

Everytime someone buys a copy of Halo 2 Vista, a puppy dies.

You're better off with a Logitech PC controller. I use one sometimes for Halo PC. With the included "profiler" app, you can set the dead zone of the sticks so it doesn't creep to the sides when you're moving or aiming.

You could always try a game profiler if you don't like how the controller reacts on PC. I personally agree with Bapa - I hate using a Xbox 360 Controller with Halo 1. I do, however, use it for Marathon, which again makes use of a game profiler.

Try a wired controller. Thats what I use, and it works great.

Yeah. That's right. I don't have a 50 in H3. I never got Onyx in Reach. If a game sucks too much, I won't even bother trying for such trivial "accolades". Besides, I've done way more things that take far more skill and talent than anything that can be done in a video game.

Yeah, I use a 360 wired controller too. Not for HPC, but for emulators and certain games. I've had no issues with drivers.

Then again, I'm on Vista, so just about anything I pop into the USB ports has drivers installed from the Internet in about 30 seconds without touching a key.

Somewhat. I can only tell you what I know, but my controller suffers lack of deadzone problems. In other words, the damn thing won't stay centered, and MC moves around without touching the analog sitcks.

I travel into the forums quite alot but only post when i really really really nead to go!

I dont think there would be a difference between using a wireless one and a wired one but i may be wrong. I use a wired and in works fine but it takes ages to get the right buttons to do the right things cause they are just called button1, 2, 3 ect. in the controller menu

Just go down the list 1 by 1 and select the button you want for each.

I usually don't set a reload button, because setting an action button will reload also in game. Only problem with that is, you dismount the rocket hog turret instead of reloading when you hit it. :(

That doesn't sound like fun. It's too bad 360 controllers are so unreasonably expensive. They are pretty good for GFWL games...
