Ok, there have been many, many threads lately either asking questions about Halo 2 that were recently answered, or just plain spamming the forums. In response to Sketch_'s request, this thread is intended to contain anything and everything OFFICIALLY confirmed about Halo 2 from Bungie. Here goes:

NEW FEATURES:

- Boarding: Able to do with Ghost and Warthog, so far
- Duel Wielding: Able to do with every one-handed weapon, such as the Plasma Rifle, Plasma Pistol, SMG, and Needler. Also able to mix and match weapons

- Xbox Live Multiplayer supported (no word on co-op)
- Flying vehicles in Multiplayer
- Improved graphics: Characters, vehicles, maps, and textures all sport more detail
- 480p television resolution confirmed
- Destructable environments: Lights can be shot out, pillars and columns can be destroyed, and enemies will use the environment to their advantage
- Spartans or Elites in Multiplayer
- Players can customize their suits with emblems
- Ghost now has a boosting feature and Warthog has an E-brake and a horn
- Vehicles are now fully destructable
- MC can peek around corners
- A second Halo ring will be incorporated in the game
- In addition to Earth, MC will take his battles to the moon as well

NEW WEAPONS:

- Battle Rifle, as seen in 2003 E3 video: New version of the Assault Rifle in Halo 1. Includes 2X Scope and three-burst or one-burst shots.
- Covenant Carbine: Covenant version of the Battle Rifle. Has sniping capabilities. Screenshots have been released from Bungie.
- Sub-Machine Gun, as seen in the 2003 E3 video: One-handed, automatic human weapon.
- Weapon carried by Brutes: Thought to be a plasma grenade launcher, includes blades on the butt of the gun for melee attacks. Not known whether or not it can be wielded by humans
- Human Turrets: Human gun turrets thought to be the equivalent of the Covenant Shade
- Covenant Energy Sword: Anti-Son-Of-A--blam!- stick
- Human Rocket Launcher: Now includes target tracking system for vehicles and infantry
- From the E3 video, it looks like the Human Sniper Rifle has been upgraded in some way but no information has been released on how

NEW VEHICLES:

- ATV: Human vehicle. Quick, but no guns attached. Not known whether you can shoot while riding. It is also not known how many passengers, if any, can ride. Thought to be the equivalent of the Covenant's Ghost

- Covenant Phantom: Covenant version of the Pelican

NEW MAPS:

- New Mombasa: Single Player Map
- Waterworks: Large Multiplayer Map
- Burial Mounds: Meduim-Sized Multiplayer Map
- Lockout: Small Multiplayer Map
- Zanzibar

NEW ENEMIES:

- Covenant Prophets: Religious Leaders of the Covenant
- Brutes: Guardians of the Prophets, strong and ruthless
- Engineers: Weak Covenant who are in charge of all the technology in the Covie society
- The Flood will be returning

SPECULATIONS:

- Human version of the Banshee is anticipated
- Covenant Shadow, a Covie version of the Warthog is expected
- Bots are NOT confirmed, but Bungie is looking into incorporating them into Multiplayer
- New Covenant enemy that can flip over Warthogs is thought to be included
- Not confirmed whether or not the Prophets' chair is ridable
- No new grenades have been announced
- Not confirmed whether or not any more Spartans will join MC
- It is NOT KNOWN whether or not 343 GS will returm, but judging from the end of Halo 1, it is likely

That's it for now. I realize that I inevitably made mistakes or left information out, please feel free to tell me and I'll add it. Now, everyone PLEASE don't post spam relating to information we already know. Look at the entire page of the forum and make sure no one else has posted a topic on what you want to post recently. Also, do not make up obvious lies. NO ONE WANTS TO READ THEM. The moderators already have enough to deal with with all the intentional spammers, let's not give them more work to do.

read this before you post: there have been many post titled read this before you post. Where people try to outline all the cool stuff that will be in halo 2 in a vain attempt to put an end to some of the stupid repetative questions which are repeated 20 times a day. Despite your well meant effort stupid people will still be stupid. I can guarantee you tomorrow we will have another 20 post debating the human=forehunner theory, why sarge didn't die, why sarge didn't become infected by the flood, what weapon is everyones favorite, etc, etc, etc. So thanks for the effort but don't expect it to work.

Yeah, but lately there have bee a whole new breed of new people and they are posting age old questions that others and I don't want to read. I haven't seen a thread like this lately, and hopefully the new people will read it and not post things that are already known. We need threads like these every once in a while to help the newcomers.

No, the moderators aren't involved per se in making the games.

A few of them, being such avid fans for years have a personal relationship with a few of the Bungie employees and occasionally field a question but generally they don't.

You should have heard Stosh and Shiska talking about the Fanfest. They hung out with everyone (and got far too little sleep) and as a result we were left waiting for an update while they slept off three almost sleepless nights.

*lol* You know it won't. There's been a couple of dozen attempts at doing this already.

Man, Halo2 fans are becoming a bastardly lot now-a-days. Lashing out at anyone new that comes online asking simple questions.

You'd think, if they were true fans, they'd by more socialable, encouraging interested parties to purchase Halo2. I'm in the middle of trying to talk some sense into some guys about how Half Life 2 is not going to beat the pants off of Halo2 and such things have to be done gently.

We aren't lashing out against anyone, I am just sick of someone coming into the forum, and saying something to the extent of "Can you guys tell me whats new in Halo 2? Im too lazy to look around"

yes but i think the uncontrollable rages and anger are side effects due from lack of halo 2. wouldnt you agree. so technically the reason we are all hostile is because of bungie.

I'm not lashing out at anyone or trying to be "bastardly," I just made this so that new people won't have to ask these simple questions. I'm fully aware that this thread probably won't work and will inevitably disappear by the end of today. I'm just hoping that it will provide some temporary relief for those of us who have been here a bit longer ;)

Nah Floody, never said that you were specifically. There's a difference between being frustrated and expressing it. Hey, you're going for a proactive solution as opposed to just lashing out at anyone who asks anything. That's what what I'm talking about, I've just seen some bastardly fans in the last few months.

Personally, I love answering "stupid" questions. I get to sound so much more intelligent and make a novice that much more excited about the upcoming game rather then bashing them in the head with a sledge. At best, they'll think the Bungie.net crowd are arseholes but at worst it could make them think that Doom3 or Halflife2 might be better.

I need Halo2 to break every box office record for video games... and heck, if it can even surpass Spiderman 2's recent success of 180 million.. (Which would require 3 million purchases in the first weekend... not quite likely) then I'd be even more pleased.

We all need to do our bit to ensure Halo2 is as successful as it can be or else Bungie may reconiser doing a Halo3 and might go on to do other things. Bungie might, after all, go back to working on an RTS strategy idea. They love to experiment.

Yeah, I agree. Halo could be an awesome series of games, and I certainly hope they do not end it with Halo 2. I think after they see the mass outbreaks of fights on November 9th, the amount of thefts from stores, and all the hype that will follow H2, they might reconsider.....

Nice job, flood. The only problem is that some of the things you said weren't *completely* right.... Like, for example, you can shoot in an ATV, but only useing a sigle handed weapon and only straight ahead of you....

But, who knows. Maybe I'm just retarded.

That hasn't yet been confirmed Slappydooda.

At last report Bungie was toying with the idea of being able to use a single handheld weapon while driving but they never confirmed it.

Nope, read Bungie's official FAQ:

Q: What new weapons will be available in Halo 2?

A: So far there have been a few new weapons revealed. The Battle Rifle is an evolved version of the original assault rifle and features increased accuracy, a scope, and a slower rate of fire. The SMG (Sub Machine Gun) is a rapid-fire gun that trades a high volume of bullets for decreased accuracy. We have also discussed the Covenant Carbine - an energy based sniper weapon. Also, as you now know, players will be able to wield the almightly Covenant energy sword.

Of course these are others, but we can't tell you about them yet.

  • 07.16.2004 12:38 PM PDT

The Covinent Carbine is not a snper rifle. It is the covinent version of the battle rifle.

Ok, fine. Don't listen to what Bungie has released as official information. After all, you know more about Halo 2 than the makers of the game, don't you?
