Okay, I've decided to start a thread in which we all come in and list what we think is required reading for 7rue Bungie fans.

Firstly, read everything, and i mean everything, found on b.net. Esp. the "inside bungie" tab. It will give you a history (somewhat glossed over though) of all their games. Highlights include the (near historic) "Letters from the Webmaster." I first suggest you read other sections before LftW and the Scrapbook(see below), as context is necessary for full enjoyment/comphrension.

Marathon Scrapbook. IMO, this will give you the best candid glimsp into the history of early Bungie. Tidbits include why Bungie says "Coming Soon(tm)" (and thus why we were shocked when they announced Nov. 9), origins of "Frog Blast the Vent Core!" and more! Alternate location of scrapbook, complete with footnotes.

Hamish Sinclair's Marathon Story Page. Though a strong focus on the story and intricacies of the Marathon story, it also covers other bungie things such as "The Number 7", "Box Acronyms", Pathways into Darkness nuances, BLAM!, and the Bungie Webmaster himself! And you have played marathon by now, right?

Optional.Pathway's into Darkness Story page. If you can run OS Classic, get the Mac Sack, and play this game. (and you thought marathon was hard?) At least get a feel for it, and then go read the story pages. Because not everyone can play this game, i'll label this optional, but pleasant reading. Its an amazing story written by Jason Jones. Consider yourself a well versed bungie fan if you go here. Marathon and PiD connections abound! (much more so than marathon/halo).

Halo.bungie.org. I shouldn't have to give it much introduction, b/c I'm sure everyone has this one bookmarked already. right? Right? Go here for your modern news on halo and bungie. (search for Matt Soell's "Weekly Updates" for some great historical perspective, as well as look at the old Halo screens to see how far its come along). Required Watching: Bungie's "Evolution" video. This can be found on HBO.

I can't really come up with required reading for Myth (or Oni), so i'm just gonna say "buy myth for $10 if you haven't already," get on marius.net or playmyth.net and stop reading the forums. Its like no other strategy game. but i'm getting off topic now . . .

Anyone have anything to add?

Very nice topic Jager :-)

For all things myth related, head over to Myth.b.org I consider Myth to be the very best RTS (or rather, RTT) game ever. EVAR. I’ve always had an absolute blast playing it. The battles are just incredible, and the absolute carnage that goes on onscreen is like no other. Go to the Myth Legends and Lore page for lots of really cool story related stuff.

Oni@b.org Doesn't contain much reading, but it has the Oni demo, which might get you hooked. It also has cool Oni pictures, and an Oni video.

BungieSightings@b.org contains the info of some of the most fanatical fans who stalk Bungie employees! The Bungie Staff Tracker is an extremely useful tool. A little outdated, though.

Is the Scrapbook available anywhere in downloadable form? I mean, other than just saving the pages individually.

I agree with hangbrain on myth as well. Best strategy/tactical game ever.It was Bungie's first attempt at the genre, and they effectively re-wrote it. Some games havent done that with mulitple iterations (Im looking at you, WarCraft3)

Oh, and is the Oni demo available for Mac?

Yes, you can find the Oni demo for mac. i suggest www.macgamefiles.com for all your mac downloading needs in the patches, demo's, and freeware departments. Search Oni. It'll be at the top of your search list.

I do not know myself of any places to download the scrapbook. Because of its age, it was probably a OS CLassic pdf that can't be read by "modern" computers. ::shrugs:: Change. it happens.

And i agree, Myth, for me, is/was the best gaming experience of my short existence on this earth. And I may even label it best game ever because no other game has come to take its place (a million fps's have since followed marathon, but there is no fast paced RTT mp capable to replace myth). I played myth for five years straight on b.net. I can't say i've ever played a game that long before or since. Thank you bungie for myth. I continue my futile search for a game truly better than it, and so far I have failed. If only you still had the rights to it . . .

The underground filled with mac gamers? I didn't realize! Not after seeing everyone asking questions over marathon pc and noone able to help with getting M1a1 SDL 1.2 to work on a macintosh.

And I tried my absolute damnest to find Oni on the web.

http://games.bigpond.com/pc/resources/files/details/html/240 requires logging in, so i couldn't test to see if this link truly works.

http://www.fileplanet.com/files/50000/53720.shtml everysite linked to fileplanet, but it wouldn't load. so i assume its dead. [edited] oh hey. it did work. I think. I haven't actually started DLing it entirely yet, i don't think it'll work for me b/c i don't have a certainly plugin or something. But it probably does work. Need a login here though, but its free, and you'll find tons of great movies/stuff to DL from here.

Also, see if there is any life around oni.bungie.org and email them. Maybe find a kind soul who will let you DL the demo from them.
