Thank you for such an informative thread.

You want you mythic status now don't you.

<3's

Not really; when I was a Mythic I really was annoyed with it (partially due to the title bar color), especially because it gave me so much attention, which is really one of the things I hated the most; people didn't even necessarily care about the thread or what it implied, people thought it was naturally right because I was a Mythic. Some people didn't even bother to think about it. Heroic is even more annoying to me, though; people think about things, but I hate the title bar color even worse than I hate the Mythic title bar color. I'd really just like to be stuck in a nice, cozy Legendary position for the rest of the time I exist on Bungie.

I don't see what that has to do with the theory, but you're essentially suggesting that the Precursor found a way to "bork" the universe. You find a way to create or destroy matter and you're essentially making physics moot.

Basically what I'm saying is:
We don't know exactly how they were able to accelerate evolution, at perhaps it had something to do with the creation or destruction of matter. Science says matter cannot be created or destroyed. Science also says that evolution follows certain natural patterns. The Precursors obviously accelerated evolution unnaturally, so perhaps the two are intertwined.

Absence of gravity and eating a black hole are also impossible according to science. Just because they are impossible does not mean they are related, which is what you're practically saying with this statement.

Evolution acceleration isn't that complicated, as I see it. Speed up the process of life and add some genetic splices in there and you're going to get fast mutations and evolution. Even if that's not the extent of it, a random correlation doesn't make a point. It's... well, random.

Fairness is only possible within the limited powers of man. Elsewhere, there is only chance.

Thus I refute thee.

This is really interesting. I haven't heard much about "The Precursors" myself before I read your theory. Where did you read about them by name? In a novel? Not the games themselves right?

Well, there is much more to the acceleration of evolution than that. Unless of course you found a way to have a species that was of a large enough size to be a predator rather than prey, as well as have them be able to reach -blam!- maturity within a very, very short time period, in conjunction with a short gestation period. A species like this CANNOT exist, as they would over-produce and exhaust an environment of resources. Therefore, the Precursors found some way to mechanically enhance evolution, rather than just stimulate it naturally.

Just because you think it's funny doesn't mean it's impossible. If you consider the implications of that particular relation, you'll see quickly that the similarities- and the suggested background that causes those similarities- are startlingly similar.

Actually, it was from the bonus content to the Halo 3 Limited and Legendary editions, in the Bestiarium. It has a list of technological advancement in that particular section, and it talks about the Precursor at the "Tier 0: Trans-Sentient" portion.

Even were you correct about your maturity theory, which you aren't fully (a quick lifespan would keep the population numbers in relative check while allowing for ludicrous mutation times, possibly reaching new "species" designations every 100 years), that still doesn't show how it has anything to do with a correlation between two things that are practically as different as pie and rainbows.

I wouldn't exactly want to believe it

Because you mentioned it, I'm in the process of writing a mini-fiction for an upcoming group project in one of my private groups. "Testing the waters" of the Halo storyline, so-to-speak. It's very possible I could actually start putting together my own fiction in the near future, and I have a novel separate to the Halo universe underway right now. Who knows, maybe I'll make a name for myself and wind up getting contracted to write Halo books one day? As far-fetched as it is, you never know.

Doing what, though? They've got a lot of talented people working at the studio, I don't think they'd have the need for me. Storyline already has plenty of people.

That's exactly what I felt like when I heard that particular theory; I couldn't bring myself to believe it. The Precursor, rumored to have given the Forerunner the very mantle to protect all life, having become the thing hell-bent on consuming all life? It just didn't seem possible to me. Nevertheless, however, it's still a plausible theory. It has roots, even if they don't go deep (but like my theory's do!).

I think that the precursors BECAME the Flood. I think the Forerunner's attacked them first, and the precursor's found a way of immortality, but with side effects: The Flood.

That's why they had that thousand year war and whatnot.

Good job on the theory! :D

Make Bungie.net More Enjoyable: Read & Follow

Read the whole thing- very interesting. Made me think.

Although we know so little about the Precursors, you managed to tie our knowledge of the Flood into a very possible scenario involving them.
It seems to me that the theory rests on the assumption that this inanimate Gravemind would suddenly become intelligent with more and more information being given to it, so with that assumption the theory makes sense, however I would be interested to hear more about how that process works in the future.

I respect how you respond to every post given in this thread.
Not many people do that.
Extra bonus points for the theory and for being a good person.

I like this one, the precursors used their evolving powers to accelerate themselves into the flood. That would make them the ultimate life form and they should be able to control the forerunner AI though.(343 & Mendicant Bias)
