I like this theory, it's got good evidence for what it can.

What I would LOVE to see is connect it with another very well established theory with a lot of evidence. That would further support it in my opinion.

And fortunately I can think of the perfect one! The Sword of Roland.

For those of you unfamiliar with it, here is a brief and vague description:
The Sword of Roland is a poem (note sure the time frame) but it has a deep correlation with both Halo and Marathon.

Durandal was the sword of Roland
Durandal was the AI in Marathon and shares several key characteristics with the sword.
MRN54 is the *supposed* hero of Marathon, and again shares many characteristics of Roland.
Cortana is a name for the Sword of Olgier(?) the Dane.
Again Cortana the sword and Cortana the AI share many characteristics
Likewise do Master Chief and Olgier the Dane.

There is a Third Sword. Joyeuse.
Joyeuse was wielded by Charlemange, One of the greatest (if not THE) forces in Europe of his time.
And so I see parallels.
The Gravemind, if it is a Living AI, is Joyeuse. Its original purpose was to save the minds of those who died, Joyous indeed!
Then Charlemange lost Joyeuse.
I believe the Gravemind could be Joyeuse, and therefore the Key to the next game by Bungie. Of course this is just speculation, nothing of the sort of research you provided for your theory.
However, if any one wants to look into it, I do have this thread saved : P

Don't worry, you're still your mom's favorite Bnet member.

That was amazing.
But of course, until we have the final answer, it is, unfortunately, only a theory. Do we even have proof the Precursor existed? Their existence is spoken by the Forerunner as a "theoretical ceiling". You said it yourself- why didn't the Precursor help the Forerunner? So isn't it possible that the Precursor were only made up by the Forerunner as deities, to give the Forerunner a purpose in their existence?

Maybe everything you said is true, but it wasn't the Precursor, it was the Forerunner?

Possible--but then, the question, why would humankind have given them clues of their own existence? Cryptum unveils a war between the two races some thousands (tens of?) before the activation of the Halo array, but unless a trans-light species managed to forget much since that war, humankind would solve nothing for them.

That much, at least, we know cannot be the case. There is documentation of where the Forerunner found the Flood and the war that they had with them.

Well that would make sense maybe bungie will have a new game in a new universe explaning everything up to the flood moving to the milky way ( such as why they where truely created and what their purpose was along with the full story of the precursor ) that would actually be a very interesting game to know what the true nature of the flood is, other then what your theory says, plus there is some similarity to the mass effect universe ( an ancient civilization leaves technologies that millions of races after them use ) perhaps this is going on because it's hard to see races lasting that long to become that intellegent.

Theory reduced to rubble after the Halo Cryptum novel.

Thank you for pointing this out with such great style and tact, my friend.

Let's do what we can to expedite this theory's removal and stop posting in it, shall we?

Thread locked per request and due to the theory proved incorrect.
