This is a fairly common complaint. It isn't just one or two groups. It is happening in most groups. Some of the Admin of these groups try to put work into the groups, but all for nothing. People, you join groups for a reason, you could at least use them. For all admins, it is getting fustrating, the continual ignoring of groups.

The final thing I have here is a suggestion. I think there should be more to encourage the use of groups, rather than them turn into a decomposing pile of mush. I know the council shall cover this, but I just want enphacise the point.

Hear hear! It really makes me sad to see a group/chapter die. (Become very, very inactive)
Especially if it's mine ;)

I agree with Mr Propaganda on this one. And i really, really hope the council can get some activity back.

I think that one thing i would like to see is a larger signature box so that i can fit some more links to chapters/groups in.

¬.¬

I've only created one group, and I'd say it's doing well so far. :)

However, I have to admit that I could be a lot more active in most of my groups.

Yeah it gets annoying (especially in my group which only has 33 members) I probably would like to see something done about people who don't even use groups.

Devil is Double is Deuce and Joker always trumps Deuce.

Amen to that. Once a group gets inactive, it's almost impossible to bring life back into it.

The council is being created to reinvigorate the column, yes, but it is the job of the chapter's founder to keep it alive. If it is your chapter that is "Dying" look for new members. The Council is not made to hold your hand while walking across the street.

Dude, Pimps at Sea is like Halo, going 30 knots in a harbour, being chased by clippers and Man-o-war. And the Man-o-war are firing.

Apparently, it's my fault.

Actually, you've kind of helped to make this group popular. At least I think you have anyway.

See?

We totally agree. Originally, we just had to get some functioning groups out the door and hope they didn't explode under the tremendous traffic from the flood of Halo 2 fans. Now that things are somewhat stabilizing and we're making progress with the core site, we'll be turning our attention to giving much needed love to our community aspects - groups and forums.

While we can't ever make someone just stop being a worthwhile member of a group, we agree that right now groups are too buried and should get more exposure and be more compelling to use. Honestly, when we first rolled these back out, we didn't want them to be super popular for fear of the entire site crashing.

Thanks for sharing your ideas and please continue to do so. It's refreshing to see an on-topic meaninful post in the Septagon every once in a while. =)

I can't get hardly any activity in my group. All i have are 8 members. Im almost ready to give up. I mean no one ever looks at the classifieds, and people only want to join the super huge groups.

It is the soldier, not the reporter, who has given us freedom of the press. It is the soldier, not the poet, who has given us freedom of speech. It is the soldier, not the campus organizer, who has given us the freedom to demonstrate. It is the soldier, not the lawyer, who has given us the right to a fair trial. And it is the soldier who salutes the flag, who serves the flag, whose coffin is draped in the flag that allows the protester to burn the flag.Father Dennis Edward O'Brien, USMC

In all fairness, the mods of groups have the responsibility to make the group worth while for its members. If a group is boring or dies in inactivity I will leave it. In return the members will be active because they will want to post in that group.

A group i am in has about 770 members, its a struggle to keep most of them active. You have to come up with good ontopic threads that people will want to post on. Personaly I follow bungies news, create a thread on that topic and most of the time the members will post at least once a day on that topic.

Just my opinion. I hope i made sense

Well, I guess yall are right. But even when I do everything in my power to make my group better, I just don't have the resources, time, or brainpower. I mean I may have an IQ of 139, but that isnt no where near enough. And the few members that i do have in my group, only 4 or 5 of them I can get to say anything. Oh well...maybe I should hit the self destruct button on my group flagship...

I know we arnt allowd to advertise so i wont but ill tell you how the group i am in works.

There is the leader who has the power
Then for every 100 members there is a council who has all powers except changing ranks
Then staff who can edit, lock and sticky posts

So in the group the leader has help, he and only he can change rank so no one gets control

This helps keeps things moving.

ANother idea we use is we hav contestes
Like best video, best pic, best art, best fan-fic.
We make a new contest monthly. if ind these keep members active

These are just some ideas. They must work> The group started in January less then 5 months and we have over 700, maybe that is the reason.

So Just think of things that will appeal to normal people who love halo and bungie.

My recommendation for getting members that are active is participate in threads in the main forums. If you can get into decent discussions with people that are generally friendly, send them a PM with an invite to your group. Make sure you include a link to your group in the PM because it's a pain for the potential member to search your profile just to get to your group when you can easily save them the hassle.

Keeping members active is mainly dependant on how active the founder and staff is. Make sure you don't make new members feel excluded. Try and send them a PM asking for a little participation if you notice that are still regularly logging in to Bungie.net.

Some groups prefer to remain small, with a close group of online buddies. The larger groups are the harder ones to maintain because most members feel their "voice" is lost if there is too much activity. It mainly depends on how much time staff is willing to commit keeping things on track and interesting.

You've got it bang on with the being active on forums bit. If you can be recognised and well known, you are going to get members.

In regards to PMing, i am split. Some may see it as a nice and simple way to invite somone to a chapter/group, however, it could also be seen as spam PM. I personaly think it's ok, as long as you don't make a habit of it.

It was a cold day near the southern base in Blood Gulch. Cortana and I were relaxing over a game of Go Fish, WHEN OUT OF NO WHERE 700 BANSHEES CAME FLYING IN!!! I GRABED MY SPARTAN LASER AND LET HELL REIGN DOWN UPON THEM. I HOPPED IN THE NEAREST WARTHOG AND TOLD CORTANA TO GET IN.

The PMs need to be personal if they're going to be done. If you've talked with the person, then say something like "If you ever get any time off of that [insert hobby or job they're interested or occupied with] you've been doing, feel free to stop by". And never, ever making it sound like you're rushing them. It's human nature not to want to be bossed around. My 2 cents.

I never had much problems with my group. Though it is a general group that has everything except the forum opened to the outside comunity. I will admit it is now going through a quiet period however it does pick up at times. I also have a few helpers. I did my best to try and get the group/chapter to run by its self

My group, The Darker Side and some of my other groups are very inactive. About half of the members don't even post in my group! (It has about eight members.)

We need get the seventh column active again, I hope the council will do something about this!
