Subject: The E3 2003 Demo?

After watching the game-play trailer a few times, it occurred to me that there may have been a very deliberate reason for not including in the E3 2003 demo in the final version of Halo 2.

For those that do not remember it. The demo consisted of something like 10 minutes worth of game-play from what viewers then believed to be a level from the upcoming Halo 2. Essentially, the Master Chief had to make his way through New Mombasa in the midst of a full-scale invasion by the Covenant. This showed off all the sweet new features like dual wielding, the Battle Rifle, Brutes and even an airstrike on an AA platform by Longsword bombers. What puzzled many people was the complete absence of that sequence from the final release.

Yes, we did get "Outskirst" and "Metropolis." But I (and I'm sure others can relate) felt a little let down not having the demo included.

Now it appears we may have a reason. I don't know if Bungie had been thinking that far into the future but I can definitely picture the whole demo being much more exciting and challenging from the perspective of an ODST rather than a Spartan. And some of the shots from the new trailer looked eerily similar to those of the demo.

Or maybe it's just a coincidence and I'm totally wrong. Either way, can't wait for September.

Blackened by virtue of Machinery.

Well, they did say they try and fit old things they cut from past projects into new ones.

The part where you're riding the back of a mongoose definitely looked like the Warthog run-through. Given the open-world factor of the game, and I'm going to assume that ODST and the Halo 2 demo are going to be pretty similar in that regard.

Not everything happens for a reason.

I'd would never claim all things did, just that this would seem to be one of them.

it appears you have fallen into a sarchasm...
its the gap between someone making a sarcastic comment, and you picking up on that sarcasm...

Yeah, but they are not showing a full mission, just gameplay clips, very little room to be disappointed here.

The last man on Earth sat in a room, there came a knock at the door.

Service Record

The E3'03 demo level looked cool, but it was just that a Demo Level.
It was designed to show off all of the new content in Halo 2 (dual wielding, AI drivers, vehicle boarding, etc.). It was never meant to be in the final game.

That being said, the overall atmosphere is a lot alike, and I love it.
