Subject: And now we know...

Missing out of the first 8 pages of fun due to some unfortunate circumstances (namely me locking myself outside of my house for a few hours), I wanted to contribute!

My question: How many of you knew about this before hand? As some of you are aware, two days ago there was a little sneak peak with the site update. So we got to see that this forum would become available for a while.

But to those who did know... is this what you expected? Halo: Reach. Were you expecting a movie? Perhaps hoping for the Chief's adventures to continue? Eh.

I personally was expecting something related to the Fall of Reach, for obvious reasons. But the prospect of new playable Spartans is interesting. Not yet reading all the new speculation threads since I'm too excited and wanted to post something, what do you think if we get to play as Spartans we know from the books? I'm worried that I'll already have impressions or that I'll know what happens to those guys specifically. We shall see.

Oh, and for the record: Blood Gulch?!?

We shall see.

Am i the only one who have no idea what this Halo.: Reach is?

  • 06.01.2009 2:15 PM PDT

This is about the fall of Reach...

We won't see Master Chief again until he comes back to launch the next Xbox, Bungie's 3rd super secret project that is so far off...(I can't remember the analogy). He might in in Halo:Reach as an NPC; ie as another Spartan we allow the Pillar of Autumn to escape Reach.

Ah, take a peak at the front page of this website my friend. You'll see the trailer for one of Bungie's not-so-secret-anymore projects.

ODST Romeo

Nothing says that we can't play as the Chief

Bungie Pentathlon - who actually cares ?

Hey burrito

Well it's here, countless threads have been created about a game based on the Fall of Reach and lo and behold Bungie have delivered!

I am guessing that the Spartans will play differently to each other, perhaps having an impact on MM, like a faster / agile character or stronger etc.

Ok, you say that you are worried that you already know what will happen to certain characters, but thats like all prequals, for example Star Wars. You know Darth Vader wasn't going to die in any of them, same with Kenobi etc.....so the fate / story already has been written, but its the journey that brings you to the conclusion which is always the most enthralling.

Bllod Gulch ? Please no, lets not taint another forum with this. Please community refrain from rehashing old stuff.

I wonder how long it will take before people ask about flying peilcans....

I've seen it. Teasers don't tell much.. Is this like a real Halo 4? Fullsize new project, or the same thing as Halo: ODST, just something to please us while we wait?!

I'm delicious.

Well now I know I really need to get my hands on those books. I don't want to go into this game knowing nothing!

Okay, here's my guess at the storyline.

It's obvious that this is set as Reach gets glassed by the covenant, and you get to play as the deployed Spartans who were assumed dead. Whether this will be a MMO, FPS, RTS or whatever remains unanswered.

So far, so good.

Now, it can't be denied that Reach bears an uncanny resemelance to the Planet shown in the Legendary ending of Halo 3. I reckon that the space 'rip' mationed by Cortana has sent them to Reach. The Plot of the Original Halo trilogy only lasts a couple of weeks, and it seems plausible that the planet is intact. Why the lights are on, in the legendary ending raises a few questions, but I'm gonna go ahead and hypothesise anyway.

I reckon that Master Chief will join his fellow Spartans in an epic battle to reclaim one of humanities most valubale colonies, and wipe the covenant threat out for good.

Feel free to point out any flaws, this was a bit rushed =)

Well I obviously knew about it, I was one of the last people to actually see the leak before they "plugged the hole", so to speak.

Personally, I expected a squad-based Fall of Reach game. What are we getting... I have no clue. But we'll find out!

First of all, the Halo trilogy was not a few weeks long. There was over a year between Halo 2 and Halo 3. Besides that, it seems pretty obvious that this is going to be based on Reach during its destruction. But then again, what if Bungie throws something completely crazy at us?

Now I'm so sued in speaking in facts because I know, that this is hard hypothesizing, haha.

From what I can tell, Halo: Reach will be a completely new game. Full new project. Presumably one of two projects Bungie didn't reveal two us (I believe there's one more, but don't hold your breath for info on that!). We know it has a new multiplayer, due to the beta (the beta being a public test- so we know it's completely new else Bungie wouldn't need that). Obviously a new campaign as well, considering the trailer and the planet asploding.

pru: You're right that it looked like chief's planet. I swear I thought the same thing in the beginning of the trailer. I was so excited. Ah well. But I think the trilogy was a few months or longer.
Snakie: Squad based indeed. My thoughts exactly. In fact, it looks to me like we might have a mix between Halo and the old original Xbox game Brute Force.

Plausible, except for the fact that the entire planet was glassed except a small region surrounding Menachite Mountain, where ONI's CASTLE Base was, and the Forerunner ruins beneath that. Once the artifact in those ruins was recovered by the Spartans, they escaped the planet, leaving it under the control of the Covenant.

There are two possibilities here. One, it's still under Covenant control/abandoned and lifeless.

Two, it was completely obliterated by the prototype Nova bombs the UNSC had armed and left on the surface. We know that one of the bombs was taken by the Covenant, which wiped out an entire fleet and destroyed a good chunk of one of their colonies, but it was implied that there were multiple bombs, and since we only know of the Covenant taking one, it's possible that the remaining ones detonated and destroyed the planet and all Covenant forces in the area.

Perhaps "Nova 1" is the callsign for a team who are trained in operating the Nova bombs and part of the game is tracking the nova bomb down and catching the Covies with their trousers down

"There came a man who was sent from God; his name was John. He came as a witness to testify concerning that light, so that through him all men might believe."
Gospel of John, 1:1-7

I say the opponents will be harder and greater numbered than ever before, since there will be many SPARTANS to help you out.

The SPARTANS are over wellmed in the books becuase of the sheer numbers of Covenant there are.

So the campaign will probably (In my thoery) be much more difficult in ways, more grunts!

  • 06.01.2009 2:35 PM PDT

As far as I know the only information is the front page and the pictures. I'm sure I'll know as much as anyone later, when I get a bit over this excitement and start working on my project due tomorrow.

Nedus, you're right in that only a small space was left available after Reach was glassed. But we also need to take into more consideration Chief's side of 'First Strike' I think. A few days passed in that time, yes? The crystal made it so something happened to change the flow of time, but nonetheless time did pass. So before the Chief gets there the Covenant could be there. Perhaps you'll land, play as Fred and friends, and then proceed to escape from the planet? There's always the possibility that more Spartans did survive, isn't there? I mean, I know we think they're all dead... but hey: Nylund seems to love killing Spartans off. Perhaps we'll have some secret ones. I dunno, I'm rambling in my excitement- there are probably big wholes with everything I just said.

Remember that the games are not designed around the books. As much as I would love for this to be true, the games are meant to be played and understood without having to go out and buy the books. As such, I'm expecting the game to concentrate on things such as the defense of the orbital MAC generators, the Forerunner ruins, and destroying the Covenant ship on the surface, at the very least.

As always, the books complement the games, not the other way around. I just hope there are no glaring contradictions between the books and this game.

Actually. Yes.

... to those who did know... is this what you expected? Halo: Reach. Were you expecting a movie? Perhaps hoping for the Chief's adventures to continue?

I really didn't know what to expect. If anything, I thought it was the long-due Halo: Chronicles. I thought it was like...an interactive movie, like it was being advertised to be by Peter Jackson. But at this point, it doesn't seem like it. I honestly don't know what I was expecting from Halo: Reach. But with a multiplayer beta? It sure as hell isn't an interactive movie.

I personally was expecting something related to the Fall of Reach, for obvious reasons. But the prospect of new playable Spartans is interesting. Not yet reading all the new speculation threads since I'm too excited and wanted to post something, what do you think if we get to play as Spartans we know from the books? I've been picking up on several POSSIBLE Spartans that were picked up in the Halo: Reach trailer. I think it's Sierra 259 and Sierra 3 something something. I don't remember, but they can be heard in the reveal trailer. Seems very interesting. I love dissecting these trailers and seeing what theories evolve from it. But then again...weren't there only 150 Spartans in the Spartan-II project? The names of the "Spartans" are very confusing. If there names are just being misunderstood, then the story most likely takes place during Reach. If they really are the names, and these Spartans are Spartan-IIIs, then this is probably a game that will be after the Halo 3 storyline. But really, there are just too many open questions to say for sure.

Oh, and for the record: Blood Gulch?!?

Q.F.T. Let's cross our fingers!!!
