Edit: The one shown in the ending could be Reach but destroyed. why else would bungie but this random planet at the end of Halo 3? Also i have never read the books so this is just my guess.

Nope, At the end of legendary They said they were farrrrr away from earth and the signal is to far, If it was REACH. then they would have got a signal from Earth or any other Planets that might have survived

You know what, i thought the same thing as you when i saw them reveal the planet in the Halo Reach trailer. The two planets looked the same.

this is the best argument so far against my theory. idk maybe the signals are just weak.

You should really read the books to understand the fully story behind Reach. I'm not going to slag anyone for not knowing, but that would help neutralize many assumptions.

Reach was glassed, but not fully. To make this short, the books explain how surviving Spartan II's and the Spartan II Program creator, Dr. Hasley fight and escape the Covenant infested planet with knowledge of more Forerunner information. Basically the Covenant found something on Reach, they never were going to fully glass it. Anyway, skipping some spoilers in case anyone does read the books, the events of books after Halo & Halo 2 lead to a planet called Onyx. Onyx is a shield planet designed to preserve a select few Forerunner (who are not there) and is entirely constructed of Sentinels below ground. It's like a last defense against Flood totally wiping out Forerunner existence. Blah blah blah, won't ruin anymore than I have.

If Bungie/Micro are really going to make an interesting addition to the Halo game series, it'd be best to focus on the events of Fall of Reach. Also, there's been a lot of buzz about the planet behind the Master Chief in Halo 3 Legendary ending being another shield planet, since it does seem to have some structural theme to it (or from what little can be seen).

Anyway hope this helps.

Maybe Master Chief will appear with a bunch of other Spartans. You never know, but we know for a fact there will definitely be Spartans because at the trailer it talks about not worrying because they have spartans helping them or something.

thanks finally someone who actually knows what they are talking about. this may sound stupid but maybe just maybe what's left of reach was turned into a shield planet. also i might have to read the books soon.

But My money is that it is Onyx

IT'S WHAT I DO!

You're wrong. You should learn your halo. Reach is a military planet where the Chief was located when the Covenant attacked it. That is where Captain Keyes fled from and how they found the first halo.

The sun in the Halo: Reach trailer is orangish/red, and the sun at the end of the Halo 3 legendary ending is blue...sooo.... Take that for what it is...
yes but this is years before halo 3. the whole area could have changed because of the covenant.

Are you serious? If the covenant had the technology to change the color/size/luminosity of a star in 20-30 years, the war would have been long over. It's practically impossible to change a star that way lol. Why would they change the star anyway? The only way they change the area is through glassing of planets. Nothing more, nothing less. Forerunners were the only ones to tamper with suns (artificial suns) and artificial planets.

  • 06.01.2009 3:55 PM PDT

You shouldn't have done that.

Does anyone know the story for Marathon? The end of Halo 3 is the setup for Marathon, Super soldier(Master Chief) wakes up from long cryogenic sleep to fight aliens that are using a long lost aliens'(Forunner) technology. He also gets help from AI's. Pretty obvious. The fall of Reach has plenty of awesomeness in terms of actiony story.

People are so in denial here.

It is not the planet from the H3 Legendary Ending, that planet is clearly artificial.

This is Reach, read your halo 1 instruction manual.

Even the trailer tells you, you know how its going to end, the humans lose, reach gets glassed and the Pillar of Autumn escapes with a very special soldier.

Although expect Master Chief to at least appear in the game since most of the spartans are on Reach, same goes for Cortana and Dr Halsey.

I don't think it would be Onyx. At the end the core is all but blown apart and the Sentinels that made up the protective shield are fractionally destroyed. The MC going to Onyx would be an interesting "oh" moment but the core itself is locked forever. The portal inside is gone... there would be nothing to do there.

yea it's def on the path of being artificial... my only issue is that Bungie will make something awesome, and Microsoft will tear the juicy parts away... That's why I'm so grateful for Nylund and the books

There has already been multiple artificial planets, Onyx and the one from Halo Wars. Why is it hard to believe the one at the end of Halo 3 isn't also artificial? The Forerunners could have made more than 2. :P

  • 06.01.2009 4:12 PM PDT

I disagree extremely.
If you recall at the end of Halo 3 where Cortana and Chief are talking after Halo had been fired and destroyed itself.
"Some of us made it."
Seeing that planet had been so close, why would it be Reach when it's in perfectly visible range of the Ark?! It makes no sense!

  • 06.01.2009 4:23 PM PDT

The planets do look alike. And the bright light from Halo 3's ending could be an explosion.

  • 06.01.2009 4:32 PM PDT

Every terrestrial shadowy planet is going to look alike...

Not totally true. According to The Novel Halo: The Fall of Reach. The covenant came to that planet searching for a forerunner artifact inside the Menachite Forerunner Complex under the surface of reach. reason to believe that in the book that reach was somewhat artificial since the forerunners came to the planet before Humans colonized it. the covenant glassed the planet to make sure that nothing was left behind to be used against them.

The Planet was not glassed to nothing though research shows that after it was glassed the UNSC fled the planet when it became occupied by the covenant.
It is possible that the planet at the end of Halo 3 is Reach but its highly unlikely.

The website below states in theory that it is onyx. Onyx is an artificial forerunner shield world created to hold the forerunners icase of The Halo rigs activation.

Taking Hydrilus's post for truth, your whole star color changing scenario is just ridiculous. The Covenant have shown no ability to change the color of stars for any substantial time. That would require a ridiculously large reintroduction of pure hydrogen into the star to allow for the incredible change in the surface temperature of the star. The star if orange red would be around 4000-5250 K, and to turn it to blue you would have to jump that surface temperature all the way up to 10500-30000 K. So, it's really unlikely that the Covenant could change the color of the star. Even if they could, why would they? What would be the point of putting a ridiculous amount of hydrogen into a star to change it's color? It's just a stupid theory.

The OP's theory could be correct, but even then it still seems unlikely. Reach WAS glassed people, not blown up. That could give it a blueish color from space, but I really don't know. Especially since the planet at the Legendary ending looked more metallic than anything.
