Subject: Halo 3 Legendary ending at Reach trailer

I just want to say that i think people are overlooking a key point in this debate. In the legendary ending, yes you do see a planet that looks SIMILAR to Reach, but you have to take into account the fact of the events right BEFORE you see the planet. AKA Master Cheif being put into a cryogenic state. He says "Wake me when you need me" then the screen goes black and then you see the half frigate floating towards the planet. The fact is that we dont know how long Cheif floated through space before reaching that planet. Also, seeing as how reach was destroyed BEFORE Halo 3 takes place, I think we can safely assume that its not the same planet. However, nothing is for certain, for Bungie always has a trick up their sleeve. Feel free to comment.

It is very possible that it is reach, although the covenant glassed reach, supposedly killing everything on the planet.

This would suggest that you play before reach was glassed, though as the original halo trilogy only lasts a month or something, there's nothing to suggest you won't still be around when master chief drops by (apart from the fact that you and everything else on the planet was annihilated)....(and the fact that it may not even be reach master chief is heading to).

were it so easy...

ok i'm glad i'm not the only one to see the similarites. The planet was thrown in at the end of halo 3, and nothing else has come of it. Could this be it? Then again, this game seems more like a prequel to me, probably involving reach. So i want to say that the similarities between the two planets are a coincidence, but then i remember that we're talking about bungie...

So I've notice something, right behind the play button there is a giant round lake being fed by two entries. In the legendary ending, the planet has a similar round crater/lake, I can't find a high enough quality video to tell. If someone can find a better look and compare em let me know.

  • 06.01.2009 7:27 PM PDT

Are you talking about the lake at 20 seconds of the Reach video? I can't seem to find a high quality video of the legendary ending to compare it to.

Um, I'm not sure on the time. But it's in the picture right on the main page.

Perhaps he got lost in time due to the failed warp, and now Chief has the potential to reverse the future (?). I dunno, but either way I'm STOKED from this announcement.

i noticed this too but the only problem is the planet at the end of halo 3 seems to have lots of forerunner symbols on it.

Theres no possible way this game ties into halo 3 except as a prequel. I dont think people are paying attention to the text in the beginning of the trailer that says "From the beginning you'll know the end". Wouldnt that mean you'll know the beginning and end of the Planet Reach?

it wasnt destroyed, i think there are still spartans at the training bunker

Lol Reach was glassed, so chances of anything being able to live off the plant itself is very very VERY slim.

Remember those who have fallen.

Maybe what happens in the game is that when you complete 'Halo: Reach' there may be a flashback to the legendary ending of Halo 3, and you see what really happens...

just a thought could br right or wrong, suppose we'll just have to wait until Fall 2010 to find out:)

Why does everyone assume he has time travled, is it not possible he has just floated to reach in his normal time line?

Bye.

I always thought it was poetic cinema when the line "from the start, you know how it ends" and then showing the ship similar to the one S-117 was on when the Ark closed.

Glassed means its still there, not totally distroyed, if it had forerunner technology on it would it not be possible to have a locked down bunker that the covenent couldn't glass?

As for the timeline, i'm sure if earth (i know it hasn't been glassed) was glassed, after a month or so, from outside the planets surface it would look pretty similar?, so its possible the ending to halo 3 could be reach AFTER the glassing. only when you get down closer to it would you see the devistation.

Who cares, lets sit back and see what bungie comes up with

Remember those who have fallen.

Hang on, did anyone ever consider that the planet at the end of the legendary ending to halo 3 might not be Reach, but could be the planet Onyx?

Think about it, Onyx was the planet where the Spartan Blue team went missing or something like that, so, maybe bungie might be doing something like a sequel to Halo 3, but not really a sequel kinda thing if u understand what i'm saying here. They may make a game after Halo: Reach called, 'Halo: Onyx', which shows you what happened to the spartan blue team on onyx or shows you what happens when master chief was drifting towards that planet.

Just a thought tho, say wat u think:)

Wrong forum. This is the Halo: Reach forum, not the Idiot Uprising.

In the Banner for this forum it says on the bottom right "Falls 2010." It is possible they made a typo and they meant to say Fall 2010 as in a specific release date, but it might have been a subtle hint that something falls in 2010, a reference to something about the plot of the game. It could mean anything, John-117's half of the ship falling on a planet, the fall of Reach at the end of the game, or something completely irrevelant that we don't know yet. I don't have any guesses on the game, I want to wait until more stuff is released on it.

ITS TIME TRAVEL. This is my foolproof theory about this.

Master Chief falls on Earth on 2010. Why 2010? Because he time traveled and he is going to kill Kim John IL

Remember those who have fallen.

mmm i agree wiv andyTHL555, although when it says "Falls 2010", it could mean that it's just released in 2010 as oppose to Fall 2010. But i doubt it will have anything to do wiv MC floatiing towards the planet, because the game Halo: Reach is going to be about the fall of reach and how many, if not all, the spartans died etc etc, because at the start of Halo: CE you are aboard the Pillar of Autumn, fleeing from the Reach massacre. I think bungie will make a game to do with the planet that MC floats towards, something like i said before...Halo: Onyx maybe.

  • 06.15.2009 8:38 AM PDT

Correct me if I'm wrong but, in the end of Ghosts of Onyx, it was called Shield World. Since the battle of reach caused the Chief to break up from the Spartans who were on the ground team, I think Halo: Reach will put some more detail on this.
Also I think the "sequel" to Halo 3, will be him meeting up at the Shield world with Dr. Hasley, Kelly, Fred and all the other Spartans from Spartan-III. Probably will be finding out more about the Forerunners in this game.

  • 06.15.2009 8:46 AM PDT

Your all wrong, the planet at the end is the planet Zorg where a select group of Spartans have been sent to wage a 300 year war against a huge pack of facehuggers. Using the portal gun you make all the facehuggers teleport inside your helmet's video feed where Cortana does a strip tease to distract the huggers while the Spartans kill them. Then you all get cake and a lap dance. The end.

Remember those who have fallen.

yeah your exactly right, but if the halo series is only a trilogy, how are they going to make another game that could carry on from where the legendary ending left off?

  • 06.15.2009 8:51 AM PDT

By the power of truth, I, while living, have conquered the universe.

The Halo 3 Legendary Planet, in my opinion, is the Precursor Rainbow World. It makes more sense than anything.

Mendicant Bias wished to atone for his sins by proving to his Masters he'd changed, he accomplished this by helping John throughout the trilogy. Even when we didn't know it.
When the Dawn made it through the Portal "just in time", Bias sent the Reclaimer through to the planet where the Didact "followed in his God's footsteps".
This proves his atonement.

Thel isn't a Reclaimer, so there would be no need to send him off.

Not Reach, not Onyx and certainly not time travel!
