Subject: ODST/Natal compatability?

Join the Spartan I Project [SIP] for help on getting those hard to crack achievements and having some fun whilst doing so

just wondering if anyone knows whether ODST will have Natal compatability. Obviously it depends on the release date of Natal itself but it appeared to to be working fully on the demo so it can't be too far away, and Bungie must have known about it during ODST's development

anyone got an answer?

doubt it

i still cant get my head round the potential that natal has though.

99% sure it wont be
1.It's going to be a while till it's finished.
2.they only showed special made games.
3.they didn't mention anything about it working with games other than the ones they made especially for it.
4. why would they put a special controller in the legendary edition if it will work with natal.

1.true, but no release date was set
2. again, good point
3. they didn't mention that it wouldn't work with other games, far as i can remember
4.touche

all i'm saying is, if Bungie knew about Natal during ODST's development and could develop with in mind, it could be possible that when it comes out some future games (that are recently old compared to it;s release) will be compatible with it

For those who wanted to know what NATAL was

I hope ODST is not compatable, i like the look of the new Natal expereince but i can already say i would not like to play halo or any other FPS with it. ill stick with my controller.

NO GROUP INVITES!!!

I hope NATAL is ODST compatible. I predic a failure to NATAL UNLESS it also supports old games. Who the heck buys a special controller and then has to buy new games to use this new special controller?

Okay, joystiqs and flight sims but that's a limited category.

Think how cool it would be to play an ODST so that the game character does what it needs?

im thinkng maybe just for theatre mode and a forge mode if there is one. I mean how easy would forge be if you could just use Natal to place everything exactly where you wanted it?

And Trap, i agree. It should be compatible with old games otherwise that's just daft

if you think about it, it would ruin the purpose of PLAYING a video game, natal is more of a social experience, besides what would you do shoot? pretend to hold a gun press a trigger...well ya i guess microsoft can make it possible, but seriously?

it said it could monitor individual fingers. So technically gunplay could be compatible.

I think the thing i'll look forward to with it most will be stuff like boxing games AND if we can use it with stuff like forge

i'm just imagining the new complaint for Xbox live support!

"er, hi, support team? yeah i broke my Xbox... How? I er, kinda punched it whilst playing with the Natal... that's still under warranty right?"

Guys, Natal is still way under development, and don't get your hopes up for backward compatibility for older games. Yes, he said it will work on all 360's, but that doesn't make it possible to play older games. I don't see a "Natal" controller setting for Halo 3, and without a patch for every game, you wont be able to play with Natal unless the game was designed to support the new control system.

I could see Halo: Reach being more designed for Natal. And as for the guns, it would make sense that a controller type item was invented with a trigger, but that would be all.

  • 06.02.2009 10:00 AM PDT

The trigger would also need something to move your character around and strafe. I dont know about you guys, but my TV doesnt move left-right when I move. I'm thinking that FPSs might not translate well with Natal. Maybe Natal will work with finding cover and picking up weapons, but you almost need a controller to move.

Don't forget, all the demos for Natal were very linear games (skating, racing, boxing...). These games have a pre-set course, and all you do is guide the player through the course.

Games like Halo or Call of Duty are not linear, they are very open. How would Natal know if you wanted to turn around or look up and down?

Natal is a project the MS is working on that doesn't require a controller to play games. It has a little "camera" that senses your movements and uses them for the game/dashboard.

Just look for it on your Xbox 360.

i understand that, good point about the strafing. I think it could work with the ODST/Reach menus or something, but in game it would be hard.

I think Natal could be good with something like halo wars, scrolling the map around, grabbing different units and ordering them to do things with your voice could be really really cool.

As for "old" Games, i'm sure developers from now on will begin developing games with Natal in mind, as they know about it and will see the benefits of having a more interactive game
