Halo: ODST is not an expansion, form what ive heard it's its own game with its own multiplayer and everything, its not like you just download it into Halo 3

Doesn't have its own multiplayer. It uses Halo 3's.

3 years?
September 25th 2007 - June 1st 2009 =/= 3 years
It's 1 1/2 years.
hear that?..its the sound of you failing

Halo: ODST Is not constituted as a new game.. Bungie even said so themselves. He's talking about Halo: Reach. Which will be out at the end of Q3 2010.. Pretty sure that makes it 3 years

ODST comes out fall 2009, not spring since spring already happened. And we haven't been told when Reach comes out except for 2010. Falls 2010 doesn't exactly mean Fall 2010. But yes, I'd like to see a new IP from Bungie instead of another Halo game.

Chunky_Lover's Average Joe Interview

Bungie All Star Contest Winner Weeks 6,8 and 12

Think of it this way.

Me and millions of people are animals who eat Halos for breakfast, lunch and dinner, Bungie are Microsoft and "Mummy and Dada". They feed us Halos because we demand Halos. How is it milking? If we like something we buy it (or eat it) you aren't being forced. Whats so different between this and the Terminator Franchise? or the Harry Potter Franchise?

[Edited on 06.01.2009 4:08 PM PDT]

  • 06.01.2009 4:07 PM PDT

Micro$oft was going to milk Halo even if Bungie quit making the games.
Would you rather have M$'s rag-teams creating something horribly out of line, or Bungie's own design that captivated the millions?

Personally I think it's good that Bungie's continuing to make games from different eras of the Haloverse. It's a good way to get their story around that they worked so hard on in creating an entire universe.

I'll consider this series milked when they (as in Bungie, not ensemble etc.) put out a bad game that has a bad plot line, and a bad game in general, and only care about money.

*cough* halo 3 *cough*

I don't see Harry Potter being milked that much seeing as how it was planned for seven stories from the beginning and I don't see anyone making a profit off of spinoffs. The movies maybe, but they are just representations of the books.
Terminator is an excellent example of a milked franchise. There's only four movies and a TV show, but any fan (I'm not one and never saw any of them) will tell you that everything after two was bad (at least that's what I've observed).
Other good examples of milking:
X-Men 3: Last Stand and X-Men: Wolverine (both bad movies)
Mario (Purest definition of milking you will ever find)

Edit: Stargate Universe. Oh my God how'd I forget this one. SG-1 was the best Sci-fi show ever. Pushed to its limits with Atlantis, and now SciFi wants to peddle this crap.

...With Halo Wars, ODST, and now Reach, that makes three undoubtedly mediocre (with Halo Wars already proven to be a complete wash) spinoff games in a span of under two years (Spring 09 to Fall 10)....
/minirant

Well, I love the Halo franchise as much as the next guy and I'd hate to see it get as overplayed as every Pearl Jam song on a modern rock station but seriously guy, at least wait for ODST comes out to start complaining about how all Halo spinoffs are "undoubtedly mediocre." At this point we've seen maybe 15 total seconds of gameplay from 2/3'rd's of the "undoubtedly mediocre" spinoff games. Not liking Halo Wars is one thing, I personally wasn't a huge fan either, but hating on something you have no effing idea about? Now that's an "undoubtedly mediocre" way to formulate angry internet opinions.

/counterminirant.

Ok they are milking halo but it isnt dry yet, there is still plenty of milk in halo's udder for microsoft and bungie to give to the fans. i mean they only have 4 games out so far and if the fans enjoy them and want more, thats why there making the ODST expansion and reach, Some game developers have brought more than 4 games out, isnt tomb raider on its 45th game or something like that lol. anyway everyone's entitled to their own opinion and you can choose to accept milk from microsoft and bungie or by it from the shop.

oh dear, sounds to me like a bunch of kids who were screaming their will be no halo 4 getting found out, how long till someone resurects the old there will be no halo 4 topic titles and showing you all up.

Whatever its called it is halo 4, weather its set before halo 1 2 or 3, and dont be hard on them for hitting the cash cow, you'd be tarded not to, your all crying out for new maps and new weapons, and a new campain, well thats what your going to get with halo 4, i mean halo: reach.

Relax they may mess it up and make it third person, or put invisible walls everywhere, oh wait.........

My name is from Star Wars. Now you know.

Feel free to follow me on my twitter and stalk me.

Dude... Do you realize what you've started?
Anyway, Halo is not milked. (much) The Halo franchise is a gold mine, and would you give up a major money maker just like that? Besides, this is what? The 4th Halo game by Bungie? That's nothing compared to what Final Fantasy has done. So when you think about it, this won't be an atrocity. Especially considering how good Fall of Reach was. It can't lose. Unless it does. :/

Ok by your definition this isn't "milking"? Saying a movie or a franchise is "milked" is basically a matter of a biased opinion of someone who is usually disliked of the future of a franchise, saying a movie sucked because they tried to milk it, is an opinion, not fact. Like I said, Halo has a HUGE fanbase, and people love it for what its worth, so why not rock the boat a little huh? Why not let the kiddies play with our new toy?

  • 06.01.2009 4:22 PM PDT

Halo Wars may have not been everything you hoped for because it wasn't developed by Bungie. ODST looks like it will be good.

Actually I listened to the audio and he said something about the body rewarding social interaction because is was necessary to survive... well so was the appendix, and now all the appendix does is explode and kill you.

Halo wars was made by another company but I'm afraid too.

First, how can you call Halo 3: ODST mediocre when it even isn't out yet? Same goes for Reach.

Second, Halo Wars was alright. I still play multiplayer from time to time.

Halo 3 (31st), ODST (14th) and Reach (4th) Mythic Conqueror. (Mythic is Solo, Legendary, All skulls on + scoring on and no deaths/saves).

Well to be honest, if you're super hardcore like I am, you'll know that everything after Halo 1 was milking.

/sarcasm

Halo is a huge universe with lots of interesting stories to be told and lots of interesting gameplay scenarios. Give it a rest. At least something meaningful and new is added with every new game. Unlike some other series one could mention.

Oh, the of stating personal opinion as fact. How funny!

How many entries has Metal Gear had again?

halo reach isnt out until 2010.

ODST is an expansion.

Halo Wars was a spin off.

  • 06.01.2009 4:31 PM PDT

I have still not played Halo Wars. I knew that game was going to be bad from the beginning as well, and I was proven correct by reviews and the fact that the game is almost dead already.
You can usually tell, based on your own personal taste, if a game is going to be good by a couple screenshots or a few seconds of gameplay footage. That's all it takes. I've seen enough of ODST to know that I'd probably like it ok, but not enough to justify buying it.
Admittedly, I know nothing of this game other than that trailer. I get a slight "bad game" vibe from it, which is why I challenge Microsoft to prove otherwise.

And to the one showing me a Harry Potter Christmas ornament, I respond with Halo 3 action figure.
