1) does one person with a bad connection cause lag for all other players on a server?

2) if my network settings in halo is set to 56k, and my real speed is 256k, would i get less lag than with the setting of "dsl/cable low"?

any other questions are welcome

In response to the first question, yes, someone with a bad connection (56k) can lag other players out. Saying that though, I have encountered games where there is someone with dial-up playing and it all seems to run bearably with upto 6 players... other times only four.

Second question... no. It won't help you out at all. Basically you are just instructing the game how much data you are able to send/recieve. You will be much better off just setting it up according to what you actually have.

If one person has a bad connection, it makes everyone except the host lag. The network settings in halo tell the server how much info to send. If you have it set at 56k, the server will send the most important information. If it is set to higher settings, the server will send the important and not so important stuff. This can cause you to lag. I don't know how much of a difference you will see between 56k and low. Bandwidth and latency are different though. While they tie into each other, having low bandwidth isn't all that causes lag.

Latency is huge for online gameplay, but that can increase if your bandwidth is too small for the amount of data you set Halo to receive. Best to set it to low, though, and see how you fare. usually anything below 150ms ping is good. That means that you have both a good connection and adequate bandwidth to prevent bottlenecks.

on the bungie ctf servers (not eu servers), with network settings on dsl/cable low, i get a ping between 67 and 103.
