This would be a good time to point out that the US Government seriously did consider nuking the moon during the Cold War as a show of force. Project A119.

"A large explosion on the Terminator line would put the sun behind the mushroom cloud, making the explosion visible with the naked eye from Earth."

Then the US decided they'd just send in Neil Armstrong to land on it. Neil Armstrong - the one man on the earth that was considered a suitable replacement for a nuclear missile.

I just thought of this, and it makes a lot of sense. It's actually kinda cool. What if Bungie is actually planning on making games out of Nylund's books? Look:

Halo: Combat Evolved
Halo 2
Halo 3
Halo 3: ODST
Halo: Reach
Halo: First Strike (couldn't think of anything else)
Halo: Onyx

I think it's possible. Also, for the hell of it:

Halo 3: ODST: 9/22/09
Halo : 9/25/07

2-2, 2-5: 2 + 5 = 7

Well, Halo Wars was Contact Harvest, maybe Halo Wars 2 would be Cole Protocol, while Bungie does Nylund's work.

*thinks about Halo Wars 2*

I want to do a space battle. Like the one over the Rubble....

Bungie still has not finished the fight yet with M.C. They cannot allow the series to die out without really finishing him off as in the Believe Trailer.

Contradictory to their achievment, Ensemble will not be making a sequel to Halo Wars as it might be difficult to do so without a company.

True. Now that I think about it having the -blam!- beat out of you with a pool ball in a tube sock by your degenerate pimp is the better choice.

Halo Wars was after Contact Harvest. It was when they were trying to get Harvest back. The Cole Protocol couldn't be a RTS considering it takes place in an asteroid belt. And Ensemble made a new company, hence the DLC, so another Halo Wars is very possible.
