Already people are saying "Oh Bungie is milking the Halo games!". So I guess one game this year and one next year=milking now? Let me explain how this ISN'T milking in action. To put it simply, there simply is not that many Halo games coming out. Two games in two years? Thats not a lot. But perhaps I need to give out a more extreme example. Square Enix plans to release 13 Final Fantasy games/other media options. This plan extended from last year to our current year.

Hard to believe an game company can't expand their our game's story without someone saying "YOU ARE MILKING HE GAME!!". Just be glad we have a great looking game coming up m'kay?

I'm worried that they are not taking enough time for both, ODSt not needing as much, because it doesn't have its own MP. But Reach, its a whole new game, you'd think they'd take at least 3 years like Halo 3. And Bungie seems to now be jumping back and fourth through the story line, eventually, they'll need to know enough is enough and start working on a series that can be just if not, more successful. Then again, if it wasn't for Halo series, I would have never known Bungie existed.

ISU Cyclones!

I've said it before that I believe that Bungie would stop making anything Halo if they thought nothing good can come out of it.

Other franchises are definetly worse if you consider "milking" to be making multiple titles coming out under the same name or IP.

Well think about. They could have been working on this game since Halo 3 itself shipped along with Halo 3:ODST. Multitasking FTW!

I miss playing Halo with my friends.

I guarantee they've been working on it since Halo 3's release.

Jezus. Let MS/Bungie milk Halo all they want. I for one would like to play Halo games until I die. Keep 'em coming, just keep the quality high.

They also just got loads of XP points from building Halo 3 already.

They know what they're doing.

Saying "Bungie is milking the Halo franchise" is like saying George Lucas was "Milking Star Wars". Most people do not care about the story of Halo, all they care about is how many kills they get in Match Making. Well sorry MLG babies, but some people enjoy the finer things.

Ahhh! can't believe they took it out of the dictionary ....and NO I'm not coming out of my shell untill you get that THING off my avatar

I disagree.

Microsoft and/or, Bungie are not stupid companies. They know that people (like you and I) will buy a game if it has "Halo" on it. oh yea, Bungie and Micorosft are companies...compnaies need wha to surive? ...money...LAst tiem I checked Halo made a wee bit of money..., if I remeber in my economics class, money is what any business needs to survive and grow, in a capitalistic structure like we find in the U.S...Thus, halo will contintue to come out.

oh yeah, besides the games, don't forget, the books, comics, toys, temporary energy drinks, clothing, stickers, and other Halo related items which have been released.

Alos, from reading some of these posts, I beleive oyu are equating milking with the time that Halo cames are released. In my opinon, this is an incorrect use of milking....Milking implies that you want to get every last drop...let's get all we can out of this "halo thing" so, what do they do, they make a few games, make action figures for each game, and comics, and who how much Halo stuff is really out there...then Bungie pumps Halo back to life with DLC and ODSt and Reach...This truly is Milking the Halo name for all its worth...and it's what any self respecting capitalist company will do if they want to survive...

Halo is a BIG name, possibly the biggest name in gaming right now, and to be making two of them a year, bad idea.

Halo 3 multiplayer alone can last another year, losing only a few thousand players, at the most. Square Enix is allowed to release 13 games because it's over 10 years old and it has a bigger fan-base, sorry to say. Plus it's an RPG, not a major FPS. Let's not be Call of Duty now...

I think that it's only milking if it sucks.

And it's Bungie. It won't suck.

The thing is, however, is that we're receiving content from a franchise that has more than one story to tell, and always has. The Halo universe is incredibly large, and because the fanbase demands more Halo content, we are given more Halo content. We have yet to get an outside-the-trilogy installment of Halo from Bungie Studios, and to judge that they're "milking" the franchise before even playing the title for yourself is unjustified.

"Milking" is reserved for franchises like Mario which saw the release of things like Mario's Super Gold Tournament, The Mario Super History 101 Adventure, etc.

When Halo releases a soccer game, then you can complain.

I'm not complaining about the milking of halo...I'm just making an astute observation.

It is not milking, ODST is an expansion pack. Reach seems to be a brand new game. So it is one new game and an expansion in 3 years time...hardly milking.

They are not 'rushing it' either. What the heck do you think they were doing in the last 3 years?

ODST is said to be considerably shorter than Halo 3, and as an aside to Halo 2's events, it isn't exactly what I would consider a new, standalone, headlining Halo title. That's what Reach is going to be. Don't forget, ODST retains all of Halo 3's original assets with a few additions and adjustments. They're not building an entirely new engine with all brand new textures, all brand new sounds, etc.

Carrying over Halo 3's engine obviously saves them a crapload of time, so developing it in a year isn't exactly out of the picture. And as others have said, Reach was probably in development since Halo 3 launched, just as Halo 3 was in development since Halo 2 launched. Since ODST is somewhat of a reiteration as far as the game engine goes, it makes sense to release their next headlining title of the franchise somewhat soonafter in order to keep up with the competition, as well as keep interest in the franchise.

an expansion pack...hmmm?...as in adding upon something...if this is not milking trying to get every last drop out of halo 3 what is?

again, my comments are not to condemn bungie...im jsut stating this is why we see more halo related products.

Rehashing the same gameplay elements and a story that's already developed via expansions using the same game engine, woah creative. Final fantasy is hardly comparable, each game is an entirely different story.

Halo 3: ODST is a different story. The setting being the same as one, miniscule part of Halo 2 hardly makes the stories identical. For that matter I could name you the COUNTLESS Final Fantasy VII titles in existence at this point, so no, they are most certainly not any different.

Get it right.

"Milking" happens when games are bad in the franchise and they still keep coming(ie FF had some bad games, but they still keep coming, hoping that one of them is good)

So far all Halo games been AAA+ quality

Nice ownage Dream053.

Also, with Final Fantasy, I've always felt the games to feel EXACTLY the same, with different dialog, and I may turn right, instead of left.

Their games, no matter how different the actual story, always seem similar to me :\

However, as Dream053 pointed out, it's not a close of an existing Halo game :)

**EDITED: somebody posted before me >_>**

-Also- I've never said "milking" was a bad thing...I think many of you are assuming that I and all the fellow "milkers" are assuming this is a bad thing.. I, for now, do not think this.

It's like making separate games for each separated person of the fellowship for a lord of the rings game. So in one game you follow frodo and the next you follow aragorn, it's essentially the same chain of events from a separate perspective.

i completely agree HALO rules why would you care they are both going to be great and if it's milking then whatever you are all still going to play them and love them. Bungie knows what there doing that's why they are such a great company. stop trying to find a crack in the best thing to happen to Xbox since well Xbox live. If they want to give us two game's in two years, then the only thing i (we) have to worry about is where I'm (we're) going to find the time to beat both of them.
