I believe that we will be fighting elites again for at least the first half of the game, maybe more. The trailer showed scene that paralleled the covenant ship going into warp like in Halo 2. We were still fighting elites at that point in the series.

According to one of the weekly updates, there are no elites in ODST.

You can blame Stosh for that one...

The circle is now complete.

No Elite enemies in ODST, sorry. Confirmed.

I've been playing Halo since 2002. My earliest memories include hiding at the shotgun window on Damnation and killing my dad with grenades while playing co-op on Pillar of Autumn.

These exact things confuse me!

It should be - Halo 2: ODST!

I Beatdown Harder Than You!!!!!

I was wondering the same thing. It sure would add greater emphasis on the changing and split of the covenant. It would also be fun to fight elites again like in the start of halo 2.

"Play to win...Win to live."

The enemys in the game will play as the ones in Halo 3. No elites, just boring ol' brutes, grunts, jackals, and hunters.

Oh no, it's the same ship.

Elites must have left along with the Prophet, leaving the Brutes to "clean up".

I think their update explains that fairly well.

Well, Bungie already explained it in an earlier Weekly Update and also look here

Under the enemies section, all the boxes have been unlocked, revealing all the enemies. Further proof of no Elites.

Old GTs; RebelRobot, Flamedude

It is strange that there are no elites....... The timeline seemed like a perfect setup/excuse to fight elites again. I wonder if we will even see any evidence of Elites in the game, dead Elite bodies or swords or things like that.

The Sentinel Beam isn't excluded from Matchmaking due to any performance concerns. It's excluded because it's ridiculous. It may as well be firing super-accelerated clowns. - Shishka

The overthrow of the Elites was already in progress and the Brutes were left on Earth at the point of the jump.

I still want a good cut scene or in game clues to explain the absence in the game. it all makes sense in the update though from January 23rd

Here’s what Luke had to say about the differences in treatment between the Spartans and Elites in Reach:

“Instead of piece-by-piece customization like the Spartans, Elite customization is a full model swap with models selected from the various Elite classes appearing throughout the Campaign. There are all kinds of reasons for this, not the least of which is our continued emphasis on the Spartan as your identity in Reach.”
