Also correct me if I'm wrong but there were only 150 original candidates, of which 75 were chosen. The Spartans mentioned in the trailer are 320 and 259.

I think we're about to meet a new Team of Spartan IIs.

Could those be another batch of Spartan IIIs? I'd like to believe that they're Spartan IIs (that would be amazing), but it seemed as though there were only one batch of Spartan IIs... although I guess they never would mention how many there were...

There has only been one group of Spartan IIs which Bungie have exposed us to in the books and games, but they've definitely teased a second group in the novels. As far as the Spartan IIIs are concerned I'm pretty sure that most of their engagements are detailed in Ghosts of Onyx but there were a few unnamed battles which they participated in so it's certainly possible.
The Spartan III service numbers did have a company prefix on them however, for example Tom and Lucy were B292 and B091 since they were from Beta Company. The alphas had an A and G for gamma company and so on. The Spartans in the trailer only had the numbers 320 and 259 which makes me think Spartan IIs.

One way to see if there is the possibility of another group of Spartan II's is to see how long it took Akerson to get CPO Mendez to his SIII program. Though I agree that they could have used somebody else to train another batch.

Also wouldn't the second group of Spartan IIs' be a larger group, with the success record of the first group, hence the higher call signs... Finally wouldn't the 75 Spartans that didn't get the enhancements still keep their Sierra ### call sign?

Out of the original 150 Spartan candidates only 75 were actually recruited, however the candidates were numbered before recruitment and so count toward the 150. You are probably right about recruiting a larger group considering the overwhelming combat success of the original Spartan IIs. All I meant about the Sierra 320 and Sierra 259 call signs was that surely the second Spartan II group's calls would start at Sierra 151 and therefore 259 and 320 would be part a second group of SIIs, and that without the company prefix (A,B,G etc) they are are unlikely to be part of Ackerson's SIII program. Really good call on checking the CPO Mendez dates.

I actually have a nice bit of speculation the kinda chew on; Spartan IIIs being in the game. We know that Gamma Generation shipped out a week or so before the stuff on Onyx occured. The stuff on Onyx occured simultaneously with the activation of Halo's "anti-everything thingy." I don't know the timeline as well as I probably should to speculate on things, but doesn't that mean it's entirely possible that the Spartan IIIs could have been on Onyx?

It'd be a neat way to play, having camouflaged armour. I'd hope that it'd be automatic camouflage rather than Halo 2 Arbiter camouflage. Way newer than Arbiter's armour, the SPI model.

Also, one of the things people like to do is say that it's possible that Chief went back in time. It could be, perhaps, like a rewrite of history (like the new Star Trek). I don't think anyone can deny it as a possibility, since there is no known sense for why Chief survived. Arbiter's half got though the portal, yet Cortana claims that their half did; so something happened.
I, personally, don't subscribe to the time travel idea. Slipspace ruptures and whatnot have no effect on time as far as we know, but more to do with space.

The books also tended to have the discrepancies in time relevant to days, not decades. Also I was under the impression that the discrepancies were due to forerunner technology eliminating time in the slipspace, so slipspace travel happened instantaneously (if viewed by somebody in the primary dimension.) even though they experienced the passage of time in slipspace.

Personally I don't believe that Bungie would have written such a well formed and densely plotted story if they were going to fall back on time travel to keep the story moving.

I agree, also because quite alot of people would instantly scream "Cop out!!!"

i read fall of reach, the flood, and first strike and i think you will be playing as fred (i think he was the team leader down on reach for spartans) and you will be the resistance down on reach and you will have a spartan team at your side unlike any of the other halo games. it will be little resistance agains a mass of covenant soldiers. including elites (no brutes) unless they put them in there (brutes werent talked about until first strike when the chief finds there are more spartans alive and blah blah dont wanna ruin it for some. i could be wrong but i dont care if i am cuz i will play this game either way.

It's a possibility, but quite a leap to take.

I'm going to reserve my judgement on the main character or characters for later.

I'm sure thats useful information, but in the words of Strong Bad:
"Too long, Clanky, too long"

You're being stupid.

I"m sort of confused... what's the point of this forum for now? Will information be revealed here or what? What can we discuss about the one minute worth of information we know about the game?

Were it so easy.

FINALLY, we know for sure.

Thanks.

Small correction. Joshua's banshee was destroyed by plasma fire from the Covenant ship. The large needler rounds are what damaged Fred's banshee when he and Kelly were moving to return to the others.

But in the meantime are there any other things wrong, or things that should be included? (ie. list of Spartans II's (First Class) that survived Reach.)
