Subject: How does the health system work?

I saw rookie jump from a tall distance and he seemed to heal (akin to shields). But they said there no shields would be included.... So what am I missing? are they just weaker?

  • 06.01.2009 11:37 PM PDT

It will work just like Halo 2/3s health system. It is hidden.

I was wondering the same thing. At first I thought they were re-implementing Halo: CEs health system when the screen turned red but he then regenerated his own health without a health pack.

My best bet is that it's pretty much like the health system in Call of Duty where you have very small health and it will replenish slowly. I would rather have some manual way of replenishing my health like BF:BC where you give yourself a shot to heal.

No, it is more like the Halo 2 and Halo 3 health system.

The red will simply be an indicator of your condition instead of shields.

I dunno. I am really hoping for Halo:CE's original health system, but I know too many people are against that for Bungie to even consider it.

From what it looks like, it seems to be similar to CoD health system. And before people start getting mad cus it's similar to CoD, look at it this way: In CoD, when you get hurt, you slowly recover over time. In Halo 3, when you get hurt, you still recover over time, and that regeneration is noticeable via the shield. So basically, from what it appears, ODST is just like that.

Ahhh who knows. I'm prolly wrong.

How many times does it need to be said?

THERE IS A HIDDEN HEALTH SYSTEM IN HALO 2 AND HALO 3.

Did anyone read it that time?

When you loose your shields you lose your normal health and if you survive an attack and lose your normal health it slowly regenerates.

Want proof? go into a custom game with a guest. grab a Sniper, shoot the guest in the body once then let their shields recharge and shoot again. At one point the guest will die to one bullet in the bdy at full shields.

ODST will work the same way but with a red wash to indicate low health.

Hey! Listen! HEY!- The words of Navi

Also before the melee system in Halo 3 was changed Bungie said "the player with the most *health* wins".

I wasn't really speculating on how your health is generated over time. I was only talking about the physical appearance of how your health will work. It is similar to Call of Duty in appearance (normal human being gets hurt, screen turns red, stop taking fire, health magically replenishes slowly but surely) I was pretty much implying that it doesn't look like a health pack will be implemented. I don't want to confuse him with too much crap.

You are correct though. Your shields are hidden. Thank you for your speculation.

I think that is related to the firefight game mode, because it doesn't appear in the campaign shots...

EIDT:: Do you mean the countoured bar right below it, or right below it and to the left a bit?

Watch the E3 demo again. You will see that bar drop when the ODST falls from his drop pod. It's a health bar and there's no doubting that.

Wow, a nice find. That contoured bar does indeed reduce when you lose health, hopefully it regenerates over time, because Medpacks are just old...

Yeah, it definitely is a health bar. It's not really like every hit means that the bar goes down though. It's sorta like you have invisible shields, that when you get hit alot puts you into "heavy breathing mode" like in COD, then your health bar goes down. Health packs are still cool. You have to admit, looking for stuff is still kinda fun in shooters.

I can't believe I missed that. When you watch the trailer, there are 2 white bottles on the ground and when the ODST walks over it, his shields replenished. I actually now believe the health packs are making a return.

Probably the same as every other new-age shooter, a nonsense auto-regen

O.o
I think only one of them was something he picked up.
And it's not shield bar.. it's health bar. I know, i know, semantics.

I'm quite surprised that some people didn't notice the health bar until it was pointed to them... and these guys play Halo? No offense :)

Anyways, think what these health packs mean for Co-Op.
Everyone is low on health... and you find one health pack. What do you do? Of course one medkit could have AOE effect, IE all who're close enough to it get health when one picks it up. Or their amount is multiplied based on how many players there are.

Whoops. Did I seriously say shield regen...My bad. You got what I was trying to say.

I am actually very surprised no one else has mentioned it and I'm even more surprised that I didn't catch his shields recharging after he stepped over those white bottles.

I'm sure everyone in the vicinity will get a health regen rather than one person keeping the packs to himself but who knows. Maybe we will have to be strategic about who takes a health pack.

Anyone here play or played Aegis Wings? You'll find health pack whores everywhere.

I hope Bungie divulges more info about health system soon. And that Duardo makes his FAQ STICKY! And adds this health pack info to it!
