Subject: Halo Reach: Theory on identity of Characters

Im thinking the Characters in the pic above are all spartans. Now why do i think this? Well Master Chief had close relations with 4 other spartans, who are Kelly-087, Linda-058, Frederic-104, and Samuel-034.

Now comes identifying who is who on the pic above.

Master Chief being an unmatched leader, Im thinking he is the one who is in the middle and it seems pretty accurate if you compare him to Samuel in height.

Next is Samuel, He was by far the closest thing to a best friend to MCPO John-117. Noticeably the largest SPARTAN-II of them all, a head taller than MC. He stood at 7ft 10in geared in his armor. So im thinking the Character to the far left is Samuel.

Next is Linda, She is one of the closest friends to John-117 and one of the few known surviving Spartans. She is best known for her skill with the SRS99-S2 Sniper Rifle Systems, and once eliminated two targets so quickly that John-117 couldn't tell who she had targeted first. Now im thinking the one to the far right would be Linda seeing how shes holding a sniper rifle

Next is Frederic. He was well known for his abilities with the combat knife. Fred had black hair which was shot with streaks of silver after his augmentation, and he was not too short or tall (Little shorter than John-117) and neither too muscular, nor too slim. In fact it was commented by John-117 that "if any SPARTAN had to blend in to a crowd it was Fred" So that being said the Character to the right of MC seems to be holding some type of knife and is a little shorter than MC.

And all that left is Kelly (to the left of MC) The character in the pic seems feminine and more of a swift fighter. Kelly is notoriously fast, even by Spartan standards. She is the fastest of all the other Spartans, capable of running at bursts of up to 62 KPH (38.502 MPH), has quicker reflexes than all other Spartans and is even capable of accomplishing normal tasks quickly and more precisely than her fellow Spartans. Before a mission, she had to slow herself down considerably to spar with another Spartan.

wwmcd?

one problem, linda didn't drop on reach. she fought in the orbital station with the master chief to make sure the cole protocol was followed by all the ships in orbit over reach. she was wounded during the fight and spent the action of halo: ce in stasis.

I hate you so much...

But not as much as I hate the internet.

Search bar dude. Linda & John fought in the space battle... the idea of switching between chatacters is interesting... i think it's going to be a squad based deal, for sure tho.

Just because they aren't on the ground doesn't mean that they can't fight at some point in the game... remember switching between the chief & arby in H2... think about it like that.

It's not Sam. He died in 2525 I believe, way before the events on Reach.

  • 06.01.2009 11:54 PM PDT

Since Sam died already, it would probably be James. MC took Linda and James with him to participate in their space mission.

Sam died DURING the events of the novel, Fall of Reach. You are assuming that this game will only focus on the ground engagement and not focus on any other major plot points from the novel.

I'd love to be a 10 year old and tell my mom I'm going on an adventure out into the world catching Pokemon, with her full support. Never mind the fact that there are rapists, criminals, and murders out there, or the fact that I may get killed by a Pokemon.

Luckily I have Pikachu.

Sam died over twenty years before the Battle Of Reach.

I'm with this guy. There is NO reason at all to assume that the entire game will focus on the ground battle at Reach. By my reckoning, the first training mission (to familiarise with controls) will be John's assault course training, and the game will culminate with the battle at Reach.

There is nothing to say that Sam will not feature in the game but die halfway through.

"Empathise with stupidity, and you're halfway to thinking like an idiot." - Iain M. Banks

OP: Interesting analysis. If Reach is the culmination of the game, and the majority of it is focused on various engagements with the covenant before-hand, that could be very interesting indeed.

There is nothing to say that Sam will not feature in the game but die halfway through.
However, Sam died during the Spartans' first ever engagement with the Covenant, right after receiving the Mjolnir armor (unshielded). So, unless this game focuses on engaging human insurgents, I don't think Sam will feature in the game.

And, so far, Bungie has done a good job of making sure that humans are not the Enemy in the Halo games. I don't think they'd change that.

Assuming the analysis of the picture is correct, I'm going to throw in another vote for the larger one being James.

[EDIT]
Speaking of James, who replaced Kurt for the standard Spartan "Blue Team" after he "disappeared"? The original Blue Team was John, Sam, Kelly, Fred, and Linda. Then, when Sam died, Kurt replaced him. When Kurt disappeared, someone must have replaced him. Given that it was James in the museum on Sigma Octanus with John and Kelly, I'd bet it was him. Could the banner be a portrait of the final 5 members of Blue Team? Curiouser and curiouser.

This thread wasn't speculating about the campaign levels, it was speculation about the characters in the above banner. I highly doubt they would exhibit a character that dies early on as one of the main characters in a promotional banner.

Forgot to quote, but this was directed at GeneralMykus.

you don't name a game REACH if just the ending is on reach.

I see where you are coming from, and you may well be right. I don't know enough by far about this to hold my own in an argument, since I only read the book once, so I'm gonna stop there.

However, I will throw this out there, since no-one seems to have considered it. Were all here raving about how it can't be this person, and this won't happen, because it didn't happen that way in the book. Surely we can't say with any certainty that this game will follow the story of the "The Fall of Reach" exactly.

Games and films will not always be faithful to books, there are countless examples of this.

I get what you're saying too, but it's hardly fitting to show a character in a promotional banner(which historically display the main characters) that dies in the "speculated" tutorial level. If it is Sam you can come back to this thread and flame me all you want, I'll have been long gone and started enjoying the game already.

  • 06.02.2009 12:52 AM PDT

Well, I think it might be about the beginning of the SPARTAN-IIs. Going through boot camp and such, leading up to the events that take place on the planet Reach.

Just my opinion, please don't flame me.

And you are welcome to do the same if it isn't, but I think were both a little too mature for that...

All I'm trying to say is that there didn't seem to be enough Covenant engagements to make a game in the book alone. I can't help thinking they will pad it out with additional missions before entering into the book's sequence of events.

Feel free to send me friend requests!

Is it possible for Kurt to be in the game? I don't know anything about him except for the Onyx -blam!-, but he's my favorite character (after MC, of course).

Feel free to send me friend requests!

I would also like to point out that Sam's description makes it pretty clear that it's him in the picture. Since the book "The Fall of Reach" includes event much before Reach is actually attacked, it seems reasonable to assume that the game might also begin 20 years prior to the planet getting it's ass kicked. No other spartan seems capable of having that sort of frame.

I hunt for the Prophet of Contentment, the San 'Shyumm that murdered my son, and stole his birthright, his Energy Sword. They call our species Heretics. They claim to all that our tongues sting, our words a vile poison that feeds on the unworthy. I have seen the true face of Heresy. The head of a gallant warrior lay on the ground. His neck scorched and blistered, scarred by his own blade. I shall retrieve the weapon, and drive it through that bastard's heart! Punishment for his sins is nigh.

Sam was already dead, and neither the Chief nor Linda fought ON Reach, only in space around it.

  • 06.02.2009 3:07 AM PDT

- The Fleet Master Elite snarled at Kurt, and the translation filtered through his helmet's speaker: "One last fight, demon. You will die and we shall reopen the silver path."
"Die?" Kurt laughed. "Didn't you know?" he told the Elite.
"...Spartans never die."
Kurt turned his gauntlet face-up and pressed the detonator.

The game might also start from the beginning, so you shouldn't just say they aren't who they most likely are...anyways from left to right i think they are Sam(because he was described as the biggest spartan in the book), Kelly, Jon, Fred(because in the book he was Linda's Scouter and in the picture it looks like he has some sort of scouting gear), Linda(because she's the sniper)
