I was just re-watching Gamespot's HD version of the Joe Staten Demo during the press Conference (Everyone should go there and download it. Seriously. Its really great quality. Audio is cleared up as well.)

Noticed 2 things.

1. The Superintendent TALKS? First, as the Rookie, when Joe's talking about the Unexpected help, you hear a Robot voice in the background. After that, as Dutch, someone says 'Super (as in Superintendent), blah blah blah' and then a Robot voice responds. I knew the Superintendent played a vital part but I never knew it talked! Cool, pleasant little surprise.

2. The bridge Dutch and I guess, Mickey blow up... Isn't that the Bridge we crossed in Halo 2, in the level 'Metropolis'? If it is, that would be so cool as something in Halo 2 is referenced in such a way. That section seems to be a small part of the level.

If you are refering to the bridge that gets shown blowing up in the gameplay trailer you can download from here then no, it is not the same as the bridge in Halo 2.

In Halo 2 the Bridge is a huge tension bridge where as the one in the trailer is simply a level bridge.

Aww. It would have been a nice, smooth piece of nostalgia if it was.

Does anyone even read these?

I don't think they are the same bridge.

  • 06.02.2009 12:27 AM PDT

Yeah it's not the same bridge. Check out the video bro bro.

Self-proclaimed genius.
Roam the streets with a sign, "will love for false hope."

Yeah, I'm very pleased with the Super's voice. Especially how the conversation between him and the ODSTs went. That really drew me into the character development of someone we thought wouldn't even interact with us directly.

As for the bridge, it's awesome. But not the same one the Master Chief crossed. I thought it was at first, but it's actually just a bridge leading to the soon to be destroyed ONI structure.

The Flood Revolution is coming...

There's interaction with the SI before the bridge blows. After the charges are set, a soldier starts the dialog.

Soldier: Come on Super, unlock the keypad.
SI: Keep it clean. Respect public property.
Soldier: If you don't let us trigger those charges, in about 5 minutes, your data center's is going to be crawling with Covenant. About damn time, do it trooper.
SI: Bridge toll accepted. Have a pleasant trip.

I thought that was pretty cool.

The superintendant the the citys UI, such as the way cortana was the piller of autums UI and seriena was spirit of fires UI. Its not as smart as these two constructs but it still aids you in vital ways, i dont know mayby showing maps, closing/opening tunnels, giving first aid, it could do anything

First Part
Second Part

Amazing Quality there.

My talents include always knowing the wrong thing to say.

Twitter!

The bridge however, leads to something to do with S.I. I'm pretty pure it's his data center, because an ODST says "If you don't activate these detonators, your data centers gonna be..."

In the new trailer you can see that all four different grenade variations are available from the beggining and that you can have up to 3 grenades of each type. walking around with 12 grenades is really gonna change gameplay

Before the flashback occurs, the Rookie looks out in the horizon and sees a bombed out ONI building. My guess is that the bridge was the only way ground vehicles and infantry could reach the ONI Building. I also think SI's Data Center is inside the ONI building. So, therefore, if he didn't let them blow the bridge, those Wraiths would have reached the ONI building.

The superintendent also speaks when you get out of the drop pod. It nudges you to keep moving.
