Looking at the screens for ODST, particularly the ones from Firefight Mode, I'd been wondering about customisation. What I mean is, are you just randomly assigned characters from the story mode? Do you get to select a certain character model? Or are you allowed some type of customisation, aside from just your service tag?

By this, I mean, being able to chose emblems, pauldrons, helmets and chest plates like in Halo 3. Obviously you wouldn't be able to give your ODST a suit of MJOLNIR; but what if you could choose any of the current Spartan helmets for them to use? I think that'd be pretty neat.

I've also seen that, in some of the available screenshots, the stripe on the ODST's helmet can be either brown, black, or white. Is that just because I'm comparing campaign screenshots to firefight screenshots, or because you can change your secondary and detail colours (since I'm assuming the primary colour of an ODST cannot be altered from black). Can you apply decals to your armour, like Dutch's awesome skull-print beneath his visor? That would certainly give added incentive to achievements.

Just thought this would be extremely cool. I mean, Bungie's already shown they're capable of going above and beyond (I mean, just yesterday ODST was going to be a mere campaign expansion, and then, this?!), but this would definitely be just that little bit sweeter.

Like? Not like? Suggestions?

I hope so.

But I think we will most likely play as characters whom are apart of the ODST sqaud.

The Flood Revolution is coming...

Hopefully you can choose who you want, it would only make sense. How else would the Johnson thing work? Always make you use him?

Join the Spartan I Project today.
We are here to help members achieve a 1,750 gamer score, unlocking all of the armor permutations for both Spartans and Elites, and rank up to your full potential.

Still not convinced? Check out our Promo video for a more in depth look at what we are all about.

Now that I think about it, this could be a possible way to implement new armor. Players could unlock ODST perms and use them in firefight. You still wouldn't be able to use them in Halo 3 multiplayer but it would definitely be possible in firefight.

i like that idea Seth.

Emblem changes and colour stripes would be cool, plus if there is the option to have different perms unlocked for certain achievements

i can see myself playing firefight for LONG periods of time, it looks like a great boredom killer

I think it will just be character selections.

I think this mainly because of the Johnson pre-order bonus.

Self-proclaimed genius.
Roam the streets with a sign, "will love for false hope."

From the screens, it appears that you get a default colored version of a squad member's armor. I clearly see a Rookie, Romeo, and Mikey in there. Hopefully you can choose which one rather than being randomly assigned, though customization would rock for this just as well...

I see what appears to be the Halt emblem on a chestplate in one of the screenshots.

They must have a Firefight Gorge mode, where you make the ODST base, place player spawn points and then place the attackers drop zones. That'd be sick, imagine the maps and fortresses you could defend!!!

Also, it'd be cool to add a "pick enemy" options, so you can vs. "all" or "brutes only" or "grunts only" or "Jackals only" "Brutes and Grunts only" etc. Or a simple "tick the enemies you'd like to oppose", enemies get more numerous and more accurate as time go on, though no more that %70 accurate.

Glad that Halo 3 garbage is dead, thanks to Reach.
Unfreakenbelievable!!

You never know; Bungie likes to try and be unique. Having it so you can't select your character would be truly unique. L4D, Gears1&2, Goldeneye64, Smash Bros, and any other game that has multiple character choices have this feature. Halo 3.1 would be the only one not to if it didn't.

Joking aside, most gaming companies understand that more customization is a good thing. Halo 3 already has custom profiles and emblems in place. It would be kind of dumb if they didn't include the same features, since it doesn't require much effort to add. But you never know, really; I have seen Bungie not implement other simple additions.

I was thinking, perhaps Bungie could work it out so that your multiplayer perm affects your Firefight perm? Thus, if you're wearing Recon in multiplayer, you get the Recon ODST perm in Firefight, whereas if you're wearing the Scout perm in multiplayer, you'll be wearing the helmet in Firefight.

I guess this should be considered an "ideas" thread more than anything else; cool things that we'd like to see. =)

They have pretty much confirmed character selection in firefight (pre-order from selected retailers lets you be Johnson) but there is currently no information about the possibility of actual customisation.

Hmmmm, yes. Maybe you'll have to unlock each character in campaign, and then you can swap parts from their armour sets if you want to? Then you can unlock additional pauldrons, etc. as you go, until, once you've beaten the full game on Legendary, you get the option to add the Spartan helmets as well?

While I do think all the characters look awesome, I don't want to be restricted to just their armour; I think I'd be cool to have Dare's recon helmet and chest piece with Dutch's extended pauldrons, for example.
