wow.. Player model does not affect multiplayer one bit. I use both player models. and it is up to Bungie what they use or not.
And no, you will not see Halo 3 maps on Reach.. You want halo 3 maps.. play Halo 3. problem solved.
This entire post is incorrect. Why? I'll tell you why. The only thing correct is that Bungie decides what they want to use and what they dont want to use.
Elites have the same sized hitboxes but they appear in different spots. They also have a neck hole in Halo 3 that allows bullets and grenades to pass through their body. Fair? No. Bullets shouldn't pass through the body.
As for maps, Halo 3 may be Halo 3 and offer a certain selection of maps, as did Halo CE and Halo 2. However, multiplayer maps, when designed out properly (look at some of Valve's work and commentary with Team Fortress 2) need to be built for replayability.
When you look at the statistics for games, certain maps are played over and over and over again and others are ignored. With Halo 2, it became quite clear that Lockout was the clear standout as polls during the time found it to be the most popular. I believe Bungie did a statistics release on Halo 2 and found it was the most popular.
People, when Halo 3 launched without it, said "Go play Halo 2 if you love it so much." Well, obviously Lockout was a perfect play design. So, it should be ported. Maps, when they are damn near perfect, should be integrated into the new game instead of risking gameplay on a new map. It becomes the desire of people to experience their favorite old map with the new features. With Halo 3 those would be: New Armor Perms, new weapons, forge, saved films, pictures, the fileshare system, a better custom game creator, etc.
Bungie should mimic Valve and build a smaller handful of maps that live up to replayability instead of focusing on new maps that get tossed aside. Take the previous maps that lived up to replayability and reconstruct them in the new game, keeping them as near as possible to the original in terms of gameplay and shape/size, and then allow those to fill the void of additional maps.
Basically, create new maps that stand up to replayability but keep that number small and use old maps that did live up to replayability and have them fill the void of the additional maps needed to ship.
