Battle rifle wasn't even invented at during the battle on Reach.
Yes it most certainly was. Sgt. Johnson used a prototype version during the insurrectionist wars on Harvest, which is years before the Battle of Reach.

"This is the prototype NOVA Bomb, nine fusion warheads encased in lithium triteride armor. When detonated, it compresses its fissionable material to neutron-star density, boosting the thermonuclear yield a hundredfold. I am Vice Admiral Danforth Whitcomb, temporarily in command of the UNSC military base Reach. To the Covenant uglies that might be listening, you have a few seconds to pray to your damned heathen gods. You all have a nice day in hell..."

Well God I hope not all anyone ever uses is that damn thing!

There are two things on this forum that piss me off;
Idiots and group invites.
What's even worse, is that I can never seem to get away from either of them ¬_¬

"I would have been your daddy, but the dog beat me over the fence."

The only reason the BR wasn't in Halo CE was because Bungie hadn't developed it yet. Same with the SMG. And the Sparten Lazer. And the Beam Rifle. And the Grav Hammer ETC

I just want to get my hands on a M99 Stanchion.

Should be fun sniping Brute chieftains from a couple clicks away.

NO GROUP INVITES!!!

I damn well don't want BR in it's current form. NOR IN HALO 2 FORM.

If it's coming, it should be single shot, or if it's burst, slower rate of fire (higher damage is ok for compensation) so that it's not so good at close/short range as it's now. It should be dedicated medium range weapon, not jack of all trades.

Yup. Just read it. Though, was it massed produced by then?
I don't think so, no. It's been awhile since I've read Contact Harvest, but I specifically remember Staten addressing the original Battle Rifle controversy about the novel (people were wondering why Johnson had one when they were supposedly not invented yet), and he responded that there is probably a good reason, specifically that Johnson in particular would have a prototype of such a weapon. So yeah, I'm guessing that back then it wasn't really mass-produced, but all those years later, it's possible that some made their way into the hands of special forces units.

Guess we'll have to wait and see, though.

This would be a good time to point out that the US Government seriously did consider nuking the moon during the Cold War as a show of force. Project A119.

"A large explosion on the Terminator line would put the sun behind the mushroom cloud, making the explosion visible with the naked eye from Earth."

Then the US decided they'd just send in Neil Armstrong to land on it. Neil Armstrong - the one man on the earth that was considered a suitable replacement for a nuclear missile.

If there is, it will only be a prototype. I would love to get my hands on the single shot BR in that one Halo 2 trailer where Cortana says, "I bet you can't stick it."

Maybe I will never be
All the things that I wanna be
But now is not the time to cry
Now's the time to find out why
I think you're the same as me
We see things they'll never see
You and I are gonna live forever

There was one in the Halo Wars Trailer and that was 20 years before Halo:CE, so I would think there will be BRs in it.

Johnson used one?
Byrne used one?
Read the books and the spartans led by Halsey used them?

Well, we don't even know what type of game this is.

There could be a BR, but that doesn't mean anything. What if Halo: Reach turns out to be an ASCII MUD or an MMO that focuses on resource management and commerce? Maybe the only interaction you have with a BR in the game is R&D allocations and sourcing materials for production.

If you're wondering whether or not the BR in Halo: Reach has "random spread" like H3, you have to first prove that H:R is an FPS before it will really matter.

QFT. I'm hoping we'll get the old magnum, seeing as CE is right after the fall of reach.

Definitely. It just wasn't thought of in Halo: CE (2001).

True. I forget how, but Bungie retconned HALO CE so the absence of the BR and SMG was due to them not being loaded onto the PoA.

Did anyone else notice there appears to be a female Spartan in the banner at the top of this forum?

Second from the left.

I know a lot of females would be happy to have female armor in matchmaking.

I think there might...if I remember reading in First Strike, the portion that takes place on Reach mentioned a weapon similar to the BR and some sort of pistol. Although they might not make an appearance in the game. But it would be awesome to have some interesting new weapons! Also if I remember correctly they talked about there being a special set of weapons for the Spartans' original mission on the Pillar of Autumn, but the section holding the weapons was destroyed during a fight with a Covenant ship. So perhaps we'll get to see some of these new weapons?

GOLD BARS MAKE ME RICH

one thing I never understood is why do the marines have better weapons now than they do in 500 years. the A-12 shotgun is way more advanced than a UNSC shotgun and the M40 pwns a BR in everything but the size of it's ammunition clip.

Non facete nobis calcitrare vestrum perinaeum

Well in the novel they find a crate of BRs in a ONI facility, so I would presume that you chance on one sooner or later.
