OK stop making threads about this. We all no that in halo 2, marines carried turrets and used them as stationary turrets. This leaves me to...
1.Turrets are light weight
In the Halo 3 manual, it says that Spartans are strong enough to RIP a turret off it's base, not pick them up.
2. ODST's may have like a thing that allows them to detach turrets
In Halo 3 anyone could rip a turret off in multi-player, so Bungie didn't want to change that experience for players
3. Bungie allows ODST's to rip turrets off base
4. ODST's suddenly got strong as a spartan
Does anyone else think why this is happening?
Real life machine guns aren't really that heavy. The SAW and M60 are about 20 pounds loaded, and I'm guessing the turret in game should be 30 or 40 pounds. It's a gatlin/mini gun, so it needs some sort of power source, which is not visible, but definitely adds to the weight. The ammo could also be a weight factor. So is the angular armor plating around the sides of it.
Also, the UNSC (think Bungie) isn't stupid enough to actually bolt down the machine gun to the bipod. I mean, why? It has to be upright to fire anyways, and there's almost always a counterweight (the guy shooting it) to make sure it doesn't go in some weird position mysteriously and fall off. A simple twist, turn, push, or pull can lock the turret to the tripod, and again, those actions can take it off. Tactically, bolting down a turret to a tripod isn't that really smart. Transporting both the turret and the tripod may be cumbersome, and having them both detachable enable swift position changing. With simple training, any serviceman (including SPARTANS) can swiftly attach, and detach the turret in a second, or less from a standing, or firing position.
