Because all new games do. From the crappy ones that shift down to 20 within a month to Halo 3 which is STILL 60 dollars for a good copy (Not a new one either)

Anyways take the longest lasting part of halo, multiplayer (Which was confirmed to be in ODST), consider that, add in 13 new maps, 3 new achievements, Recon at your fingertips, A whole NEW way to play halo multi (Firefight massive LAN anybody?) What else? Oh yeah, theater mode (Which no other game has) Forge (Which no other game has) Campaign, told in a pretty original way with awesome graphics (Think Halo 3 faces, now smooth that out, add in 15 layers of polish and you have ODST) and most likely the original Halo 3 campaign.

Okay tell me how this isn't worth 140 dollars in America?

Being an accountant by trade, watching all of you come up with different ways to justify or argue against the stated price is quite amusing to me. :-)

Yes you're right. We're not taking in account the cost to make and ship the game. We're ignoring the advertising cost. We don't even know how much of the games price will go to bungie, and whether they'll get ANY profit from it!

We're talking about this from a gamers perspective, whether or not we feel that this is worth 60-140 dollars, whether or not if we bought this, we would FEEL that we got our moneys worth.

True, from your point of view, we're going at this from a completely idiotic perspective.

But from Bungie's POV, the perspective of the billions of people who will -blam!- pillage and murder in the malls and game stores to get their hands on a box of ODST hawtness is the only thing that matters.

Haha, I wasn't even thinking of it like that. That'd be foolish, anyway, from where we sit, since we have no idea what they're spending to develop, market, produce, and ship the game.

What I meant was the people clamoring back and forth, "for $60 you get maps, campaign, firefight, beta" "no you don't count the beta, those are free" "but it still has value" etc. It's just funny.

As far as a purchasing decision goes, whether or not you think it's worth it is the only way to go. But, "you" is the key word there -- it's a very subjective thing. Hence the bickering, hence my amusement.

It's also terribly disappointing how many people haven't yet learned that the dollar sign goes before the number. *sigh*

For all of those who are justifying the price to be fair because it includes things like Forge, Theater, Matchmaking, and Co-op, that is a petty argument. Why should I have to pay for a full retail price for a new game when I already have a game that can do all of that? I'm not attacking Bungie, because I understand that Microsoft is the ones in the end that are in charge of pricing; Bungie is there, primarily, to make the game.

What's that? I get all the map packs? Cool, I guess. Too bad I downloaded all of them. Bungie even had posted ahead of time that all the map packs would be included. But anyone that considers them a "true" Halo fan and consistently plays the game would have downloaded them before the release of ODST. And even better, I get 3 new maps w/ ODST. It's pretty unfortunate that it's going to be the only way to get those maps.

Firefight? Sure it sounds awesome. Horde mode in Gears 2 was one of the best multiplayer features out there. But it's nothing revolutionary. Had Bungie expanded even more with Forge or offered something really *new* to the table that had never been done before (like saved films and forge were w/ halo 3), then I'd feel more inclined to spend $60.

In the end, I, like many, am going to buy ODST regardless. If there's anyone upset about the pricing, it's not Bungie you should be pointing your fingers at, it's Microsoft. They are the ones that have the final say in pricing. I think it's very professional of Bungie to interact with their community and take criticism about nearly anything and everything, and that's the price they pay to have to sit and sift through the countless threads about every little detail. But I know that many people out there, including myself, still share the same views w/ Bungie that ODST still shouldn't be priced as a full-retail game.

Has this been confirmed or is everyone still speculating?

The "only way" part of it? I've seen nothing like that confirmed, but I haven't really looked, either. I'd bet they do it like Mythic Pt. 1 and release them on Marketplace a month later.

http://www.bungie.net/projects/odst/features.aspx#multiplayer

Yes, it has been confirmed. It's under the Features section of the ODST web page, listed under multiplayer.

This game comes with a beta for the Halo: Reach expansion = priceless. Pay whatever they tell you to and and enjoy Halo 4 multiplayer before it even comes out. 'Nuff said.

At the begginig, Bungie said Halo ODST would be a title of 20-30 $.... Now , internet say HALO ODST wil cost 60$...

It´s too expensive for an expansion ¬¬

Agreed

Plekpedia - The most epic site in the history of ever.

The only thing I can think of is that it is 60 because there is more in the game then originally thought.

I can't hear your complaints over the $100 price tag we here in Australia put up with.......

That's not my problem. :D

Yes, I'm a furry. And yes, I like men. So what?

Wow.

It actually seems like it has just about the same amount of stuff that Halo 3 had, plus a "Horde" mode (Firefight), and all of the Halo Matchmaking Maps (Normal, Heroic, Legendary, and all of the Mythic, finally), the engine looks tweaked so that it can render more onscreen objects even better than H3.

Plus, a lot of expansion packs are full priced. Ever played WoW? The Burning Crusade AND Wrath of the Lich King packs both costed around $50-60 dollars.

And, like Nick said, everyone's going to buy it anyway. Why complain about the pricing? Microsoft has done the math, and that seems like the ideal price for the game.

You're an idiot; I've been trying to find a job for 3 months and I still can't get one. Same goes for thousands of people in my city. I've literally applied to over 60 jobs, which I am overqualified for by a long shot, the recession is kicking the work force in the ass and a TON of people can't afford to hire. You might not care that its a recession, sitting in your nice mansion in Newport Beach, but for the majority of the planet, we do care because we don't have a huge disposable income, and STILL Im going to pay whatever this game costs. GFY FTW FFS
