It's not Malcolm. I am 100% positive.

1. That would make the Chief a Spartan-I (Spartan, Sierra 1st class, 017) and Sierra-320 a Spartan-III (they were on Onyx until around the time H2 began).

2. Malcolm died when he hit the ground, while S-259 says "you've got Spartans on the ground, sir. We're not going anywhere."

Malcolm is from Class I, and died on impact with the surface of Reach.

What about the SPARTAN Is? Maybe it is one of them.

There wen't Spartan 1's weren't in the Battle of Reach.

We don't have enough data to prove that they were there or not. I am just saying that it is possible.

I think that they were disbanded and would not have referred to themselves as "Sierra" (NATO phoenetic "S" representing their Spartan status). I mean, I never heard Johnson refer to himself as "Sierra."

NO...
chief was promoted to petty officer FIRST class, he wouldn't say that, plus it's spartan 117, if he were second class he would state sierra 2117

You wouldn't say Spartan 2, 59. That's just a headache. If it was Malcolm and he did say Spartan 2, he would follow with 059 (zero-five-nine), he wouldn't ommit the zero. It's important. Cutting corners like that just wouldn't happen.

Otherwise he may as well say "Hey Boss its Mal, what's up bra?"....

It seems to me that bringing in a new wave of Spartan-IIs, i.e the second group of Spartan-IIs, is the perfect plot device for Bungie to retell the Fall of Reach without totally wrecking the canon of the novel The Fall of Reach. We know what happened to the Spartan II 1-150 class, so lets find out what happened to the second class of presumably 151-300.

It makes sense to me. It would be nice to meet up with some of the first wave though.

True, true. I like this though. This sparks a lot of cool theories, that could easily be built into Fan-fic, which I love to read.

Well you're wrong. If this was the case ("2117") then Malcolm would be "2059" not "259." I have no idea what his rank has to do with this. Why did you completely disregard point #2? Malcolm died when he hit the ground, so it wasn't him reporting that there were Spartans on the ground ready for the fight NOVA-1 was supposed to be in.

I'd love to be a 10 year old and tell my mom I'm going on an adventure out into the world catching Pokemon, with her full support. Never mind the fact that there are rapists, criminals, and murders out there, or the fact that I may get killed by a Pokemon.

Luckily I have Pikachu.

There was no second class, it was abandoned by ONI in favour of the Spartan III project. Also, Sierra does not mean Spartan. Master Chief was more than likely just a part of Fire Team Sierra in Halo 3.

Hmmm....... This Sierra 259 stuff is confusing the hell out of me then........ MC is called Sierra 117 right?? As in Spartan-117. So Sierra 259 surely must mean Spartan-259. Never has the MC been referred to as Sierra 2-117.

Sierra is a fireteam group, like Fireteam Charlie and Zulu in Halo 1. There also isn't a point in disguising the fact that they are Spartans if they announce their own presence over the com.

I'm thinking that the pool of candidates was larger than 150. A minimum of 320 children would have been surveyed, and of those, 150 of the most promising individuals were selected, but of those, only 75 were inducted due to budget restraints.

It was a multi-billion dollar project (each suit of MJOLNIR costed as much as a frigate, I believe) so I highly doubt that 150 was the largest number of potential inductees.

Thats the only plausible explanation I can think of aswell.

Bungie are very cunning aren't they?? They could have used any callsign other than Sierra (Gamma, Foxtrot, Oscar etc) but they went for it, Sierra. Riles up the forums is what its done!

Wait, why would his number be between 1-150? Weren't there 300 original candidates and then it was lowered to 150? Just because it is lowered to 150 doesn't mean that their number can't be 259, there is simply 150 of them at that point. They were given their numbers early upon entrance into the Spartan II program.

i doubt james is alive i mean he did get shot by a needler and fly into outer space and if he did manage to find a way to get on a ship or reach in the 90 mins of air he has he still is probly just gonna get shot again

nobody calls themselves spartan, they say Sierra.
Well... that's simply not true at all.

They can say spartan, but Sierra is more of a Code word meaning Spartan.
They said it in Halo 3. Sierra 117, before you fight the first Scarab.

  • 08.05.2009 12:16 AM PDT

another reason this "sierra 259" can't be james is cuz well i think if anyone would be on the radio it would be MC i mean he is the squad leader another reason it's not james is cuz james got blasted into space how could he possibly get back on reach unless a big ship crashed into him and he was stuck on it and it rammed into reach and then how is he supposed to get out from under the ship turn into the hulk?. and besides we should stop guessing we're never gonna know until halo reach dose come out so why don't we all save this discussion for later when we know who sierra 259 is ..... although this conversation will be pointless then...................... wait i just figured out who sierra 259 is he is he is............................. the...........................259th spartan of spartan II lol

why is everyone sooooooooo obsessed with sierra it's like some one says this is sierra-457896 and someone is like OMG he said sierra i must find out who he is. i do agree though bungie could have used another calling yes they decide to use sierra i think they were depending on the rarity of that calling to capture our attention
