Subject: From The Beginning, You Know The End.

Has everyone overlooked this statement?
First off a lot of people are misquoting it it's not something like, "You know the end so heres the beginning". It's "From The Beginning, You Know The End." This would mean you know the beginning and can determine the end from the beginning.

My Theory:
Well first off the beginning would mean the prequel books hence the name Reach. This could be furthered to the Story taking place on Reach although not as a prequel. It is not a prequel because that's the Beginning. Since we already know the beginning why would they make a game about it? The thing we don't know is the end.

But just what is the end? Well if we go even further back to the very beginning we know that the Forerunners used the rings. Therefore the End would use the Rings. The only way this would happen is if the Flood came back. Which is highly possible. The only information we have on the Flood's demise is Cortana saying so after they are cut off. She can't possibly know this for certain. The other part of the end cutscene of halo 3 only suggests that the Humans and Elites are at peace, making no mention of the Flood. The flood can come back anyway because we know a ring was fired by the Forerunners and the Flood came back.
The ring's use is supported by the people saying that there is a Halo ring in the background. I can't find the thread but if you look closely you will see bands on the ring like the halo rings have and unlike gas rings have.

The end would come about in the same way the previous one did, when a Gravemind convinced an AI to fire the rings. This would probably be Cortana because she has had the most contact with Gravemind as is the only AI prominent in the games series so far.

Why Reach? Well first it is to trick everyone just like everyone thought the Ark was on Earth from the H3 trailer. But on to what they'll say, as far as I know(from the wiki) the artifact was never found on Reach during its first fall. So a Second Gravemind(or possibly it survived) realized this and tries to get it from the people who have inhabited it after all the years. This would explain the surprise the transmissions show from the attack, because everyone thought the Flood were gone so people are like wtf. As well as the explosions that don't seem to be Covenant, they would be Flood dispersal pods or nukes/glassing trying to contain the Flood.

Why are there Covie ships obviously glassing the planet in the pic at the top? If it is a Flood attack they could be trying to contain it like at Voi in H3.

Another thing is the Silhouettes. One of them definitely looks like the Arbiter or at least an elite. If you look closely at it's feet you'll see the back curve of the leg like the elites have, as well as the armor it's wearing looks like the arbiter's. You all saying it is Sam are just assuming that because you think it a prequel. We have never seen a pic of him, but we have seen a pic of Elites so let's go with what we have seen instead of what you think we should see.

Conclusion:
It is a new story line tying up all loose ends by destroying all life because a ring is fired. of course they probably won't want a morbid ending like that so the after the credits ending will have people coming out of a shield world like Onyx.

If it is a new story line this would easily clear up all the problems that people are having with the trailer. Such as the high call numbers of the Sierras and the time gaps in the film, these would be solved because if it is after then more Spartans have been made making for higher numbers and the battle would be a different timeline than that in the book.

Maybe it takes place in diffferent time periods. Like you'll be playing in the past before halo ce, and then the next mission is in present time in the halo universe.

This would be a good time to point out that the US Government seriously did consider nuking the moon during the Cold War as a show of force. Project A119.

"A large explosion on the Terminator line would put the sun behind the mushroom cloud, making the explosion visible with the naked eye from Earth."

Then the US decided they'd just send in Neil Armstrong to land on it. Neil Armstrong - the one man on the earth that was considered a suitable replacement for a nuclear missile.

We knew what happened to Reach at the end of the book, and at the beginning of Halo 1. That's what it is talking about. It's talking about the end of Reach, not the end of the Halo story. MC may be in it, but he will only be in it to fight the Covenant away from Reach, not by coming back in time. That would ruin the entire Halo story line, and Bungie would have to make an alternate Halo 1-3. Use your heads.

Bungie Pentathlon - who actually cares ?

It means: You know the ending to the Halo story as in MC drifting..now you get to see how it all started

Why is that so hard to work out and why are people over complicating something ????

Two movies you should watch: Fight Club and Pineapple Express

"Wait. What do you mean, it's dead?"
"If marijuana is not legal within the next five years I have no faith left in humanity, period. Everyone likes smoking weed. They have for thousands of years. They're not going to stop anytime soon. You know? It makes everything better. Makes food taste better, makes music better. It makes sex feel better for God's sake. It makes -blam!- movies better you know?"

Well maybe the quote tells you that because the humans already were destroyed by the Covies many times so they already knew how it would end. It could also tell the viewer that they know how it's going to end in Reach and begin in Halo:ce with the possible slip space scene.

I didn't say he travels back in time. I said it is after H3.

If it meant that we know the ending now see how it started, it would say something like"From the end you know the beginning." Since the beginning is said first it is the starting point of the thought, then you conclude the end from the beginning. This assumes you know the beginning which we do because of the books and FROM the beginning you can infer what the end will be.

No, its a big fat no. It means that you know the end - MC drifting into space at the end of H3, this game is set during the FALL of Reach as depicted in the books. Not the RE-FALL of Reach.

Seriously, the prequal concept is strangely very very hard for some people to understand, imagine if your goobledy-blam!- fuelled theory was correct...people would not be able to comprehend / understand it, judging by the fact that they do not grasp the concept of a prequal to Halo: CE

QFT.

"From The Beginning..." = "When you start to play Halo: Reach..."
"You Know The End." = "you will already know how the game ends because you have played Halo:CE, Halo 2 and Halo 3."

  • 06.02.2009 10:19 AM PDT

Lol?

Dear lord it's not that complex. It helps if you don't try to pull a fancy Nostradamus style message though. <From the beginning of this game, you know the ending of this game> rather than "From the beginning, you know the end". Halo:CE takes place immediately following, and the Reach novel clearly says the story. The rest of your writing is, no offense, a bunch of horse****. It's all speculation and an attempt at best.

As for you trying to state that this game ends the game's story and is post H3? NO. Bungie isn't THAT creative/stupid. It's the battle of Reach. Big guy is a big spartan. He looks nothing like an elite except that he has the shape of an upside down Y with arms. His helmet is clearly a spartan's. Next in line is a slim spartan, then a "normal" sized one, one wandering up the the rest, and one crouched with a sniper rifle. No elites.

Finally, this game most likely introduces nothing radical other than the new engine/graphics whatnot. It is not a new storyline. It can easily have a morbid ending but they do realize that 10 year olds play. It is not a new storyline. The "high" call numbers are either codenames or more simply just their designation number. John-117 is one of 75 spartans. Number has no order whatsoever as far as we know. NO! There are no more spartans. I's are pretty much just good soldiers who fall under regular military rank, II's got canceled after first class->That's what those two are, III's have separate designations.

Summary: Your title simply means "From the beginning of the game, we know its ending". This game does not introduce new largescale storyline(Only things such as battles on the planet, rather than "new spartans" other than current unnamed). Most of your theories are most likely false, and that stuff about the "second gravemind" etc. is probably just day-dreaming fantasies(I get those sometimes; just don't write them down).

its not hard 2 realise we know the end up 2 now is the storyline halo 3 left of the start is probably the start of the spartans 2the end of them SIMPLE

  • 06.02.2009 10:54 AM PDT

the biggest sillouette could very possibly be Sam, the biggest and strongest of all the spartans, even though he died before the events of Reach. He is described as a full head above the rest of the spartans, consistent with the siloutette

Micsoft description says it's a prequel. Although nothing is known at this point. Might not even be a FPS, although that's what bungie does best and it is a halo by bungie.

What I would like to see is this indeed be a prequel chronicling the event of the Fall of Reach novel, eventually spinning a whole seperate branch of this story. By going back to Reach's fall, Bungie could potentially produce new game stories following the other spartan's, possibly even leading up to the shield planet, Onyx, and beyond that. I don't really think the statement, "From the Beginning, You Know the End" is very cryptic. Sounds like a prequel to me, which would explain why we might know the end. I have to agree with everyone's naming of the silhouettes as various Spartan II's, though, the big guy is not an elite.

  • 06.02.2009 11:40 AM PDT

This May not have anything to do with what you said but in Halo 1 you get out of the tube thing at the very start and they say something along the lines of "Welcome back chief". Is Halo Reach leading up to that and maybe at the end you get put into the "Resting Place" so the beginning of Halo 1 is really the end of Halo: Reach? *Hence from the beginning you know the end?

"We sleep peaceably in our beds, because rough men stand ready to visit violence upon those that wish to do us harm."

"Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of all those who threaten them."

In Halo: Reach, the blockbuster prequel to the Halo trilogy, experience the events that transpired on the planet Reach. Created by acclaimed developer Bungie, Halo: Reach will be available in the fall of 2010 exclusively on Xbox 360. As a bonus for Halo fans, Halo 3: ODST will be the key to entry for the Halo: Reach multiplayer beta coming to Xbox LIVE.

No it's a Prequel

Is it so complicated for people to grasp the concept that we're going to be playing the REACH campaign?

I.SEE.YOU.RECLAIMER.

Probably means that this is a prequel, like I assume it is, and that you already know how the Human vs Covenant war ends.
