Subject: Protest the $60 Price for ODST

A purchaser cannot dictate a price before a product is released. The only way purchasers can affect price is through lack of sales. A company would never say "oh, our customers are demanding a lower price so lets sell them at the lower price" while they are selling them hand over fist. Just from a quick glance it seems most will pay it, Would I like it to be cheaper, hell yea. Will I not buy it at 60 bucks, hell no.

Analogies often suck but you are looking at something being included you don't want and think that should justify a lower cost. Kind of like ordering a Big Mac plain and expecting to get a discount in the cost.

All consumers look at a product and determine if the cost is justified based on what they want. If there are things included you don't want, the things you do want need to justify the total cost. If they don't, you don't buy it.

I understand you feel jipped and most of it is probably because it was hinted there may be a value price.

What about the people who want the Halo 3 campaign, dmg? They then will have to purchase both Halo 3 and Halo 3: ODST, essentially purchasing a large portion of this game twice.
Wouldn't they have already bought Halo 3 at this point? I don't see this as being a very large number of people.

Given what we've already learned about ODST at E3, I'm very comfortable with its price point, assuming it lives up to the hype, of course (concerning Firefight, in particular).

It's a completely new game. That's what your paying for. You pay for maps because you want to have them early instead of waiting until they are free. That's your choice. They didn't even have to include a new "fire fight" mode and it still would have been $60. Oh and they are throwing in a multiplayer beta of their new game that we didn't even knew existed. Stop being cheap.

I'm perfectly happy to pay full retail price for this game, especially with all of the new content that was announced. If this was only the campaign, sure, I might be a little upset at this price, but we are getting way more than we expected.

Yes, I'm a furry. And yes, I like men. So what?

Um....how about no?

I'm actually relieved. I thought it was going to be $80.

Oh, and there are, like, three other threads like this.

Don't buy it then.

Goodbye

How about this? I rent the game for $8, buy the new map pack online for $10 AND SAVE $42 and laugh at all the people who bought it? If I rent it over Winter Break/Thanksgiving I can play like 10 hours a day * 5 = 50 hours, no way this has 50 hours of content.

Epic changed the price of GOW 2 content. Halo 3:ODST is only worth $60 for people who haven't picked up the maps. I will probably beat Halo 3: ODST on Legendary in like 3 hours. I beat Halo 3 on legendary in 6-7 hours and that was supposedly a "12 hour campaign". I'm betting Firefighjt will last for another 6-7 hours or so. So now I paid $40 for a map pack...and a game beta (which u aren't supposed to pay for....).

How about a $30 to $40 version with no beta, and only the one map pack (doesn't even need Halo3 MP).

Also with COD:MF2, Assassins Creed 2, Splinter Cell Conviction, etc, this game is going to have to get a 9.0 + rating for me to purchase. I won't buy into the Halo name without a 9.0 + rating and 1 million + copies sold.

I have the $$$ but Firefight is going to be garbage without friends...who I know aren't going to pick up ODST for $60.

For the people that want the H3 campaign AND the Halo3 ODST campaign? Eeesh.

Do we know every single thing that will be on the disk? Will it have both campaigns?
Hmm...

Also, How will Halo3 ODST's achievements work with Halo3's? the new maps, HereticLongshoreCitadel, have achievements on H3. If we can only access them through ODST, how will it unlock said achievements for a different game?

Hmmmmmmm...

Good question. Perhaps achievements for one game are unlockable in any game and we just haven't until now seen a need or implementation of such. That is, they aren't tied to any particular disc being in the tray, but only what is coded onto that disc.

lol whatever, go protest then, take a ign with you and write "I r protesting, I not buy halo3:odst becuz I am greedy and not undertand people who make gamez do it forz ze livinz"

But seriously, I dont care, 50-60bucks is usually what I pay for all new games, so I dont mind.

It's kind of a rhetorical question, but the principle stands. Many people are still buying Xboxes for the first time, and Halo 3 still sees new players every day. Of this, I'm sure.

But I say it's rhetorical because ODST is going to drive the value of Halo 3 WAY down, so I bet you'll be able to pick it up used for $10 to $20. Any smart buyer wouldn't buy Halo 3 new. In fact, I'm incredibly surprised they haven't introduced a platinum version of it yet.

Edit: Well, it is Microsoft we're talking about here...

It is in my opinion that the $60 price for ODST should be protested.

On the Gamestop website, this is what is included in ODST:
- New Campaign Content
- New "Firefight" cooperative multiplayer mode
- Includes Halo 3 multiplayer on a standalone disc, plus all three DLC map packs: Legendary, Heroic, and Mythic.
- Halo Reach Multiplayer Beta Key
==========

Now who here want to pay TWICE for the maps we already own? Legendary, Heroic, and Mythic, I already have paid for these, and by buying ODST...I'm basically giving MSFT more money AGAIN for the same maps I already own?? Where is the logic in this?

I urge all Halo gamers to protest this.

No matter what you say they will never lower the price and people will still buy it... I will buy it and enjoy it. If you don't or can't just get a job and save for it

Problem solved

I prefer señor Legendary Member.

Roadhouse.
I have seen the powers at hand and I can honestly say I am not ready

Protest and don't buy it...and stop complaining. But while you aren't buying I will be playing the sweet ass game and not worrying about you not playing it.

i thought they did say it shouldn't be a full game price.

I pretty sure they did say somthing about this not being a $60 game awhile back, beta or no beta they haven't told us much about the game or how long it is so i'll probley wait to decide. Alot of us here understand why the game is $60, but I did'nt buy halo wars because it was not my type of game, and If these new games our not FPS I won't be getting them either. I don't like the idea of spending $60 without knowing what the game is even about, which i'm sure they will have some video on the XBOX dashboard thing when the time comes. But really, all I wanted was the vidmaster acheivments. So maybe someone I know in real life will get this and I can borrow it first. Or maybe it's time to get that gamefly, this would be a great reason to have it. Also I only play Halo, Halo 2 Halo 3. Never any other Bungie games. So if this were Halo 4 I would've already preorder it.

you dont pay for heroic map pack, as its free. plus, legendary is around 800 points, which is half price.

so you only pay 1800 MS points, (£16 i think).

Also, £60 is the RRP, i've heard its going to stock for around £45 to £50

It's pretty much a whole new game though with lots of extras. If you're a true Halo fan, you'll buy it anyways.

Thus he came alone to Angband's gates, and he sounded his horn, and smote once more upon the brazen doors, and challenged Morgoth to come forth in single combat. And Morgoth came.

Yu-Gi-Oh Lightsworns
Yu-Gi-Oh Agents

After seeing the things you listed and the new trailer, I'd happily hand over 60 bucks for this game.

  • 06.02.2009 11:12 AM PDT

Non facete nobis calcitrare vestrum perinaeum

I view ODST akin to the Episodic content for Half-life 2, and therefore along similar price lines at around £25.

  • 06.02.2009 11:16 AM PDT

Not a tree

BUNGIE LIES. In the Game Informer Halo 3:Recon magazine Bungie told GI it would be an exspansion and cost less. BUNGIE I WILL BE EXTREMELY MAD AT U!!!!
