During the Battle of Reach. Fred is the Squad Leader of the Spartans during the Battle of Reach. John at the time is on the Orbital Space Station.
So, unless the Campaign lets us play multiple people (like Halo 2), I think we'd be playing Fred during this game.
Also, its possible for a split-campaign with one following Fred and Red Team on Reach. And one following Blue Team with John.
If it was like the above, then we may be able to play John as he boards and attempts to hi-jack the Covenant Cruiser (which ends "different"). Although this is before the Fall of Reach, its possible for it to happen. It also may be possible to follow John as he attempts to get an artifact from the city named Cote D'azur. Although this is also before the Fall of Reach. Its possible for it to happen.
If this game is just purely based on the Battle of Reach, then don't expect to see John. If it expands and is losely based around this Battle and includes other events. Then we may see John.
Also, for the Battle of Reach, Red Team was split into four groups. So we may be able to play as each group. Or just one group.
There are so many possibilties.

Also, in the banner for Halo: Reach. It shows 5 spartans. Could it be possible to play 5 player Co-Op?

Also, each Spartan had there own "speciality", Kelly was renowned for her speed. Joshua was renowned for his electronics expertise. I was wondering, would these be toned down in Campaign? Or would each player have to use their expertise to help the squad progress.

I'd love to be a 10 year old and tell my mom I'm going on an adventure out into the world catching Pokemon, with her full support. Never mind the fact that there are rapists, criminals, and murders out there, or the fact that I may get killed by a Pokemon.

Luckily I have Pikachu.

I don't think it's 5 spartans. I think the one second from the left is either Admiral Whitcomb or Dr. Catherine Halsey.

Got in one little argument, and the mods got scared,
they said "You're gonna get banned and your member title'll be bare!"

I wouldn't draw any conclusions on coop based on any picture, lest it be showing actual coop being played.

And I highly doubt the Spartan's physical and mental advantages would play a serious, or even minor, role in the game. IF it follows Red Team, which has never even been officially mentioned, then it may crop up during scripted events, such as Joshua bypassing a door during an in game loading sequence (You know, those things where it "takes time to open a door," but the game is simply taking the time to load the next part of the mission.) I don't expect to see role based combat at all.

Isn't Halsey on the ship with Captain Keyes?
More chances of it being Whitcomb.

Unless....due to the Time Crystal effects in First Strike, John arrives to rescue the surviving Spartans on Reach, and he brings a few ill-fated survivors from Installation 04. I think there's overlap in both Fall of Reach and First Strike, but I may be mistaken. Damn, I need to read those again.

-You look like you could suck a golf ball through a waterhose.

Yeah, and the opening cut scene it shows them being kidnapped or going through child hood training like in the book.

No, she volunteered to activate the CASTLE base (The giant military installation on Reach) fail safe; a self destruct sequence of sorts. She was the last one in the base before the Spartans found her.

Whitcomb was a large bloke who smoked cigars and drank spirits...I doubt he would be that slim looking..
