I posted this before and got a few responses yesterday but I've got to say it again because everyone is looking way deep into how this might be Halo 4 (impossible) or other silly ideas lik that...
Lets take a look at what we do know and is a fact. Halo: Reach will take place during the battle of Reach which is the main focus of the first book in the Halo series, Halo: The Fall of Reach. The Fall of Reach takes place before Halo: Combat Evolved (the first game). It is important to understand this because we all know there are many people out there who have not read the books and perhaps payed rapt attention to every scene in all the Halo games. These are verifiable facts and I'm also trying to inform people of some things they might not know about.
Now again, lets review what we do know about the actual game.
- The name of it is Halo: Reach
- There will be multiplayer.
Now I know there are many out there who are dissecting the dialog spoken on the radio but I think that's just a bunch of BS personally. The reason is because of what I think this game really is...
I think this game is a multiplayer focused, class based first person shooter, in the vein of the Battlefield series.
This is my guess as to what the game is going to be. I base my hypothesis on the fact that the only thing mentioned about the game other than the name is that it has multiplayer. Now, please take a closer look at how Bungie usually announces games. It has not to my knowledge ever made such a concerted effort to make sure that the public knows it has a multiplayer. This game, Halo; Reach, is obviously multiplayer focused. I'm sure there is going to be a story to tie it together and explain why you're doing the things you're doing multiplayer wise but it's ridiculous to think that if this is going to further enhance or expand the Halo lore to any meaningful degree.
This game will probably be the most multiplayer focused of any of the Halo games to the point where, like I stated earlier, it'll probably be Multiplayer only. This, coupled with the fact that Halo 3: ODST already is their special campaign add-on, freeform, mystery solving, side story. Lets also take a look a exactly what Halo comprises of so far and what is coming on the horizon...
We have
- Halo 1, 2, and 3
- 6 Halo books
- 2 Graphic Novel series
- Halo 3: ODST.
- A potential Halo movie by Neil Blompkamp
- Peter Jackson's Halo game
I think we have the story more than well-covered. This game also makes sense as a multiplayer focused game, with class based warfare. In the Halo books, specially The Fall of Reach, it is explained that each Spartan has their own specialization that they are very very good at. They are put into teams where they work together well and are completely comfortable with. It we take a look at some of the pictures released everyone has noticed that there are 5 Spartans and each of them is holding a different weapon... This screams to me Battlefield 2 or Team Fortress style class based game...
Starting left and going right, we have the first one carrying a machine gun (Heavy), I can't make out the second one, the third has either and Assault Rifle or Battle Rifle (Soldier/Main Assault person) , the fourth one seems to have a knife (Scout/Spy/Stealth), the fifth one has a sniper rifle (Sniper, duh).
If I am correct and this is a multiplayer focused Halo game with class based warfare in the vein of the Battlefield or Team Fortress series, then I can only hope they extend this to the Covenant too and we are able to play as the other races which we haven't been able to so far. I'd like to be able to play as Jackals, and Hunters, and Elites with squads of grunts around too. Since they've expanded on the Covenant and UNSC armory through Halo Wars it would be nice if we could get a big Battlefield styled game with all of that newly introduced weaponry.
I'd like to hear some thoughts of course and what you guys think. If you think otherwise please explain why you think the game is going to be story based. I've pointed out that all we know is that there is going to be a multiplayer Beta included with ODST. Bungie has released Multiplayer only games before that had no single player, so it's not out of the question. We also know multiplayer only games can work thanks to the Battlefield and Team Fortress series too.
