Really? I would actually really like to fight against BOTH. It'd be interesting to see how the Elites and Brutes worked together when the Elites were in charge. Maybe even a bit of discoordination if the Brutes were outwardly jealous ;P
We saw this a little bit in Halo 2. It almost seems that the Brutes and Elites avoided each other in combat situations -- we rarely fought against both Elites and Brutes at the same time.

I remember one point in the story where you fought Brutes and Elites at the same time, and it was just before the courtyard where Brute turns on the two hunters and the Ranger Elites. There was (on Legendary) a Silver Elite, a Brute Captain, 2-3 Commando Grunts (The Silver ones) and usually one engineer grunt. After that the only time I remember seeing both in the same room was the courtyard right after, and the Mausoleum.

You will have to fight elites since they are the main soldiers for the Covenant at this time. But since Brutes do exist prior to this and did do some fighting, they may still be a threat but should be scarce.
We should see the inclusion of the M6D (Halo: CE pistol) since it was developed on Reach and the reason (i theorize) it was in Halo: CE was because the Pillar of Autumn had just left Reach and probably got stocked up with the latest pistol. (They did not have BRs because, lets say they ran out...they went to the soldiers defending the planet + did not exist yet in the minds of bungie developers)

In the books, the brutes only appeared as enemies in final strike, AFTER The Fall of Reach.

/half-wrong

They appeared as an enemy in Contact Harvest, which is placed well before First Strike, as well as Halo CE and The Fall of Reach.

ive hated fighting brutes since their introduction into the series, ive put up with it, but its just a drag..i feel like im playing planet of the apes or something. elites were always fierce and cold, but interesting.. i hope they really diversify the culture of the elites here, maybe even a few boss type fights with a elite warlord type characters.

doesnt Reach get nuked? i think a mission inside a massive nuke/plasma crater, could be interesting, with radioactively altered beings whether they are elite/human that could introduce a different set of parameters and diversity to gameplay?
i should shut up, i called like 3 ideas before halo 3 was introduced that actually came true, 2 of which were straight up identical

True, but the first encounter the Spartans had with Brutes was after the events of Reach aboard the Unyielding Hierophant. Also, the Fleet of Particular Justice was an Elite-only fleet, so no Brutes on Reach.

Wort, wort, wort!

Yep, lets get that Halo CE feel good feeling back! Shove the gorillas! They are not (and never have been) wanted !

I got his sarcasm...one person has to implement sarcasm and then you get a pile of terrorist chipmunks crashing your party, not fun at all..

I loved the brutes...

  • 06.02.2009 3:57 PM PDT

I see your point, but I think the brutes should have a slight appearance, much less influential, but showing a very, very slow transition to using them in the Covenant Military.

Veto for ARs!!!!

Fun fact: The first Covenant group to contact humanity was a ship run by Brutes, on Harvest.

I'd like to see Brutes and Elites side-by-side... that could make for some interesting battles.

Agreed, it's either going to be the covenant, or human rebels ( which would suck :D)

Actually, I think some rebels would be sweet. Like playing a mission where the Spartans have to kill a rebel leader (Fall of Reach). But I'm pumped about the lack of Brutes too! Elites are back!

I missed shooting elites and then watching the grunts run around yelling, "demon!"

  • 06.02.2009 4:16 PM PDT

i believe there could still be brutes as in the book Contact Harvest, the main attackers were brutes and that took place before Reach was lost and glassed.

There won't be. The history for Reach has already been set on the large scale. Unless bungie pulls a HORRIBLE move and brings back the brutes that no one liked, rest assured this will be the classic Halo races you enjoy(No flying bugs either, please).

Dude, you weren't *supposed* to like the Brutes.

  • 06.02.2009 4:28 PM PDT

Signatures are for squares.

Elites got the shaft in Halo 3, you only saw them in game on Floodgate and briefly on the covenant. Then Bungie made up some B.S. about Elites not being in ODST. So I'm glad we will get some Elite combat in Halo: Reach, I'd love to play as Fred/Will/Kelly/Linda for a change.

Semi-agreed.

As someone else pointed out, Brutes were used in combat in Contact Harvest, which occurs before the fall of Reach. However, it is definitely still my opinion that Elites have much more personality as enemies, and are way more fun to kill than Brutes.

I think it could go either way, but I'd love to once again be able to place an Elite between my crosshairs and feel my heart leap for joy as it yells "Wort Wort Wort!" right before I pull the trigger!

  • 06.02.2009 4:33 PM PDT

Flares the nubbies up.

I agree 100%, the Drones suck, the brutes are too easy to kill ( even on legendary with a few skulls.)

All I want to see are Elites ( including the honor guards.), grunts, jackals, and hunters. Maybe there could be extra enemies like scarabs or something else?

A few new vehicles from Halo Wars would kick ass as well. The pistol from Halo 3 ODST also looked amazing!

My friends call me D Bo.

Only a TRUE Halo game would have the enemy as elites, even though i am an elite, i still miss that "Halo Feeling"

Halo Wars used one campaign level devoted to Brutes... and then everything else was Flood. The brutes never appeared in Halo Wars Campaign after that. I'm getting tired of the brutes, time to move back to the original enemy...

Elites!
