This thread is certainly going to hell already.
Please, listen carefully and attempt to understand what I am going to convey. Go at it with an open mind.
MLG is a corporation, similar to Bungie in fact. They are attempting to build something great for the gaming community in an age where games are becoming more and more for the casual gamer. Just look at Wii sales and see how they are through the roof. Gaming is clearly becoming something more for casual play, rather than for hardcore fans.
High end graphics are being neglected and fast paced gameplay is being ignored in today's economy. Gaming has not proven to be recession proof as sales have declined over the past few months. Not to mention, but for big companies, the choice is clear: make a game that is safe rather than making something more experimental.
This isnt to say that Hardcore games are being neglected, but they certainly aren't as hardcore as they once were. One needs to only look at the evolution of games from 2-d to 3-d to notice the move away from a life based system to a checkpoint system including infinite lives and recharging health. Its a different gaming world and its becoming easier in some respects. Its also harder too as those games still try and present the most challenge possible.
MLG is attempting to create an arena for those who enjoy an intense challenge from their games. In doing so they have spawned quite the cult following I must admit and some of those members are complete idiots who believe they are supreme due to their play style. I ask you to put aside your dislike of such individuals since they do not represent the group and corporation or even the physical idea behind the more competitive circuit.
MLG, whether you like it or not, is a big part of today's gaming world and hopefully will have a big impact by making gaming not only more popular, but also forcing games to retain a sense of challenge. After all, isnt their some inherent thrill in beating someone at anything whether it is a sport, a game of poker, or a board game? The same goes for video games. We has a human society thrive on challenging one another to become better. Its pure sociology that we strive to improve and strive to compete for the top place. MMOs are a perfect personification of that stratification.
Anyway, continuing onward, you must remember that you don't have to participate in competitive gaming or MLG's gametypes. They are merely giving and attempting to retain gamer's choice when they go to play video games. Its attempting to make developers remember their hardcore fanbase in addition to their casual fan base and they are doing a remarkable job.
Therefore, I ask you to merely respect their goals. Its attempting to allow gamers to retain a choice when playing games. Please just attempt to ignore the MLG fanboys who take it to the extreme just as you would with regular jackasses in the game. Every game has jackasses...it happens due to the veil of anonymity.
Pesonally, I enjoy paying a bit more competitive and faster paced Halo. I found that Halo CE and Halo 2, when untouched, delivered a more quick and tougher experience. Halo 3 was tuned a bit differently. The slower walking speed, the random elements affecting gameplay in the spread of weapons, the shielding equipment. They just didn't do it for me. It was slower, so I as many others moved on to a bit more competitive variant. If you don't like it, so be it. Youre entitled to your opinion and it doesn't mean I am better than you or vice versa. Its personal preference and its all about choice.
So hopefully MLG will use Halo: Reach provided it is a first person shooter in their future circuits, but who knows. We don't even know how the game will play and what kind of game it will be. So until then, let's just enjoy what we have and speculate about what could make the game great.
