As if the confusion of trying to communicate whilst falling to Earth at an unimaginable speed isn't enough, what occurs next is even worse: the Covenant cruiser that the Prophet is on makes its jump to slipspace. At this point, we're now seeing this scene from a third point of view - we originally saw it from the Chief's vantage point in Halo 2

Other than the MC leaving as our ODST troops arrive on scene, what part will the MC play from the perspective of our ODST unit ( radio transmissions, video transmissions, etc.. )?

Will we see / hear news of the MC fight ( ie. cut scenes )?

What other reference points will Bungie build into the ODST story ( if any )?

Go Rams and Missouri!

Master Chief, for the 100th time, is not in Halo 3: ODST.

  • 06.02.2009 12:26 PM PDT

MC is in Delta Halo during ODST, so the Rookie will never meet him in the game.

Hey! Listen! HEY!- The words of Navi

If you ever played Halo 2 you will see that MC is not on earth during ODST.

It's been a while since I've played the H2 campaign. I can't remember all the details. If what you say is true, how then do you explain the quote from the Ascendant Justice?

Doc: "i'm a pacifist"
Caboose: "your a thing that babies suck on?"
Tucker: "no dude, that's a pedephile"
Church: "tucker, i think he means a pacifier"

Doubtful, if they stick to the story established in the books very few ODST care for the Spartans, particularily 117. MC may be mentioned but I doubt it, remember that Mirands piloted her ship on an unkown vector when she followed the Prophets vessel. I'm sure during this portion of the story it's a big "WTF" in regards to them.

Why the hell are you looking at this? Get out.

And no group invites, you jerk. I'm not interested.

The slipspace explosion is a reference point between these characters. If you remember, Master Chief left right before the explosion, the ODST unit enters during it. He wont be present, though I'm sure he might get mentioned.

Ah, right. Thanks ALIENwolve. That is the piece I had forgotten. Appreciate the input.

Still, I could imagine we might see tale of or hear news, as we make our way through the story of these ODST, regarding the efforts relating to the MC. Something which might provide additional reference points (while I was ... as an ODST unit, the MC was, at the same time, ... )?

Finding and looting the scraps of that Scarab would be cool.

I died once...I respawned 5 seconds later, seeking revenge!!!

maybe they'll have him as a easter egg or cameo

For crying out loud. I don't care what the Ascendent Justice said. It is a fact that the Master Chief is leaving Earth as the ODSTs drop. He is aboard In Amber Clad. I know this because I have played Halo 2's campaign. Don't try and make some theory up the is obviously not true.

Wouldnt mind seeing him as a playable character in Firefight

  • 06.02.2009 1:04 PM PDT

Here’s what Luke had to say about the differences in treatment between the Spartans and Elites in Reach:

“Instead of piece-by-piece customization like the Spartans, Elite customization is a full model swap with models selected from the various Elite classes appearing throughout the Campaign. There are all kinds of reasons for this, not the least of which is our continued emphasis on the Spartan as your identity in Reach.”

Now, that is an acceptable theory.

Why the hostility brother? I am not trying to make a theory up. I'm simply asking a question based on a well regarded, community based, opinion. A opinion which Bungie, itself, has referenced numerous times.

We drop in as the MC is on his way out. Got it. No problem there. The question still remains. Will Bungie make sure those who are playing ODST are conscious of the efforts of the MC as they occur in parallel?

I'd love to be a 10 year old and tell my mom I'm going on an adventure out into the world catching Pokemon, with her full support. Never mind the fact that there are rapists, criminals, and murders out there, or the fact that I may get killed by a Pokemon.

Luckily I have Pikachu.

If you look closely at the E3 prieview, you can clearly see "In Amber Clad" with "Master Chief" aboard flying up to Regret's carrier just when it leaves slipspace.

Heres a Halo 2 scene that makes that clearer.

Perfect. Thanks for the cut scene BS Police.

Bungie obviously wanted to tell the story of what went on, there on the ground, after the MC left town. My question is simple. Seeing as how your past efforts in H2 and your future efforts in ODST will overlap across space / time, will Bungie make an effort to create additional reference points between these two stories?

I'd really like to hear more about the space battle above Earth in ODST. Like what happened to the 300-odd super macs and human fleet etc.

Yeah, yeah. That would make for some incredible cut scenes... Speaking of which, the teaser for Reach demonstrated how awesome Bungie's team is at painting space... Good call flamedude.

Imagine, given how Bungie has honed their art skills since Halo 2, what new details they might expose in the H2 story as it crossed over or meshed with the ODST story?
