Yes, really

A while back when Halo 3: ODST was first announced I believe Bungie said they were working on 3 projects (1 being ODST). We now know the other to be Halo Reach. But what about the 3rd? I really wouldn't be too worried is all I'm trying to say.
mythic map pack i believe.

Don't get me wrong guys, I'm a HUGE halo fan. I play halo and it is THE title that got me into console gaming. Halo has always been really fun for me, especially the multiplayer. Whether it is playing with friends or playing competitively online, halo has been great. Also, I'm not going to lie, I was truly excited when they announced Halo: Reach at e3, HOWEVER, now that I think about it, Bungie needs to do something more. True, the books have been out, and the story has already molded for Halo: Reach, but now I think Halo needs to end. Since halo 3 was a GREAT game in my opinion, I can't see it being topped by another halo game except maybe graphic wise due to the growth of computer technology. SADLY, I think halo has to stop. It hurts for me to even say it. I think bungie really shouldn't develop Halo: Reach, bungie should use their AMAZING TALENT to develop a whole new other sci-fi shooter. Since the halo series have developed a whole lot, ending it with halo 3 would be ideal. Since the community is already expecting SO much out of Halo: Reach, maybe the Halo series would end with a horrible game and be remembered that way. Keep halo the way it is. Use your time and human resources to develop a whole new story.

Your nice to me im nice to you, if you talk big shiitte on me, i hunt you down and give the speed t-bagging of your life!

first of all "fresh" not "freash" and if you dont like it just dont play. i dont know why bungie wants to drag halo out till people stop paying but they did it with marathon and it made them money, so why not try with halo? at least it has a large enough game universe that there is room for side stories, unlike marathon. but really? gone to far? no, but trying to ride there half dead money horse for another expansion pack, new map pack, filled multiplayer anger fest? yes they are doing that.

They absolutely are not going too far. I think 4 games in the span of 9 years is totally fine by me. There have been many, many more gaming franchises that have been continuing for DECADES, that have had way more than 4 games release for them (not counting ODST, which is basically an episode/expansion, and Halo Wars, which was made by a completely different developer).

I do hope that this game changes the way the game feels though. Halo 2, 3 and ODST have all added things to the Halo formula, but obviously each of the sequels have still felt basically the same from a gameplay standpoint.

Halo: CE revolutionized the FPS genre in 2001, and popularized the 2 weapon and recharging health systems. Most of the shooters released in the last decade use one, or both of those systems, and while I don't believe Bungie invented either of those, they can certainly be credited with being the first company to get both of them right.

I think Reach needs to revolutionize the shooter genre again, like CE did 8 years ago. Although I certainly wouldn't be disappointed with a prequel using the standard Halo formula, I would love to see something that makes other developers go "Wow, that's amazing! I can't believe WE didn't think of that!"

I've been playing since the day Halo 1 launched, and I don't think it's getting old. Old for me is anything from the 70s. Pac man is old, Halo is new.

  • 06.09.2009 7:15 PM PDT

Oh yeah It's Rayzed.

As anyone can point out, even from the old Marathon day, Bungie can make one hell of a story. Halo isn't just a game. It is a compelling story. And Bungie displays the whole story so well. I hope that Halo sees a lot of attention in the years to come. The only thing I'm worried about is Microsoft dragging the series. They only see it as a money opportunity, not as the story it was meant to be.

Check out my Gaming Rig on EVGA Mod Rigs.

I completely Agree with tml04.

I have recently fallen off the Halo bandwagon. But I do have to say that I am glad they are getting away from the stale H3 game play. The first games were the type to leave you thinking "WOW Can anyone actually out do this?" but after playing through H3 and getting to LVL 42 in MP I just feel that the game has been a little played out.

Seeing the trailer and reading about Reach is getting me interested in the Halo story again. I just hope that they can deliver a new and fresh game experience to the Halo Universe because I have somewhat lost hope in Bungie's games after H3.

"For us, the storm has past. The war is over. But let us never forget those who journeyed into the howling dark and did not return. For their decision required courage beyond measure, sacrifice, and unshakable conviction that their fight; our fight, was elsewhere. As we start to rebuild, this hillside will remain barren, a memorial to heroes fallen. They ennobled all of us, and they shall not be forgotten, Fleet Admiral Terrence Hood March 3, 2553"

If another game comes out after Reach (I am counting ODST as a separate game due to its price), Bungie will be milking the Halo cow. Halo starting to remind me a lot of Guitar Hero (5 is coming out soon) in its marketing strategies

Im not sure if this has been posted or not (dont have the time to read this huge thread) but the halo series isnt just about master chief, it is also about the flood, covenant, humans, and forrunners. With these things in mind Bungie has almost thousands upon thousands, if not millions, of years worth of unknown story to develop. All of it breath taking. now for those of you purely looking at this from a game aspect, ya i can see myself getting tired of the halo name, but as i describe to everyone, halo isnt just a game anymore, its become epic in proportion; and im not speaking of epic as in its slang term but the origanal definition of a heroic poem. (or legendary if you will :P) Halo is now on equivlance with the tales of gilgamesh, the illiad and oddsey, lord of the rings, and star wars; all great stories. So to answer the question; do i think halo is being milked by bungie, no, but i do think that the name should change from 'halo' to something more appising as it is now moving away from the ring worlds themselves.

I am split on this one. I'm excited about a new halo game, but I'm upset it doesn't tell us how exactly Halo ends.

I am excited to find out about what happens before Halo:CE.

Bungie has a lot more to tell about the Halo story... There a lot of unanswered questions that could be in more games following Reach. I didn't read the books but I really do love the Halo story.

-What happens to Master Chief?
-Where exactly did the flood come from?
-Everything and anything about the Forerunners.
-What about the Grunts, Elites, and Brutes after Halo 3?
-How does Earth and the Human race turn out?
-Cortana?
-What the heck is 343 Guilty Spark going to do now?

There are even more stones unturned...

  • 06.09.2009 7:49 PM PDT

I think it is a little extreme of you to be spouting off stuff about 'Halo 17 reach rise of the Covenant Aerosmith", that is just childish. I don't mean to mock you but you are the one who said it. Star Wars, now that is milking it, how many star wars games has there been? Way too many. so far we have had 3 halo games in 7 years, I wouldn't call that milking it, and I didn't count Halo wars so that would be 4 games in 8 years. When there is a Lego Halo, that is when I will start to worry.

I'm trying to become an '04, but it's not working too well."

i do worship the bungie 'PPL'

I've been playing the halo games since 2002, or somewhere around that timeframe. maybe before, maybe after.
Halo still hasn't gotten dry for me, and i'm glad to see them making one last game.

They're filling the spaces, yet leaving the ending open.

Prequel-- Reach
Halo 1
Halo 2
ODST
Halo 3

It's fine with me. I'm fairly happy about it.

And if they decide to give The Chief 1 last game, i won't fight it.

Rule 6: Respect the Admins

“It’s their website, and they can do whatever the hell they like with it. You’re a guest, and hassling them about how they run things is akin to going round your Auntie’s house and curling one out in her tea-pot.”

You must understand that it simply isn't old yet.

Personally after I read the book Fall of Reach I really wanted to see a game of it anyways.

I dont think they went too far, i think it would be better to expand to different parts of the Halo universe/story that arent released yet but i also think it would be really cool to experience Reach. Im hoping it doesnt follow the book and expands a little at least though.. Ill also be happy to see Sangheili again!

First, my good man, I would learn to spell correctly. This way people will take you seriously and not consider you a total "noob".

Secondly, if you had a massive franchise, such as Bungie's "Halo" series wouldn't you still "milk the cow". As long as there are fans out there, the game will sell. What is that saying? Oh yeah thats right, "If you build it, they will come..."

The point I'm getting at is this, they will do with it as they will, its theirs to decide what happens to the future of the series, not some disgruntled fans choice. You can't compare Music based games to Halo... music has a huge continuity to it as music is released by various artists all the time, unlike Halo, which is a story... Halo: Reach is just that another part of the story.... the beginning.

FACT: Halo Combat Evolved is not the beginning.

Now please before all you guys that come in here and flame me about how "halo is freash" "it never gets old" Please take into concederation the fact that you have not been playing halo since the begining.

Once you make a game that is worth a few million, then you might be able to give a little hint to bungie on what you think about the Halo Series... Until then, pokeychris, STOP DRINKING THAT MUTHAFUDGIN HATER-AID!

Yes, I have.

Now when I heard this announcement at e3 I said wow thats nice we get another new halo! Then i began to think about how boring and old this title is getting. If Bungie does not get off this Milk train soon we will end up getting halo 17 reach rise of the covinant aerosmith. And I know we dont want this to happen. As long as they're all good, I'd have no problem with it. Of course, that won't happen, but for however long the games are good, I'll buy and play them.

I also remember reading somewhere that bungie said that halo 3 was there last halo game. And hell, Were getting 2 more... No, they said that Halo 3 was the end of the Master Chief story arc. They said that ODST was their last Halo project. Then they surprised us all; I've never been so happy about being lied to...except for that time that I found out my girlfriend (at the time) actually had cheated on me. Ignorance is bliss, as they say.

So I know this is probably going to get locked and all but before it does i would like to hear your guys say your opinion. PLEASE DONT POST IF YOU ARE JUST TRYING TO WORSHIP THE BUNGIE PPL.I think Halo has a metric butt-ton of backstory that could be explored through video games. As long as Bungie makes them or has a hand in their overall development, they'll keep my interest. As long as they're good, they'll have my patronage.

  • 06.09.2009 9:23 PM PDT

I get what your saying. Maybe you don't want Bungie to ruin the good name that is Halo. Bungie has been doin this since what, 2000? Sorry if I get the date wrong, but it seems that they have been doing this for a while, and the name that is Halo still echoes through everyones homes. Ive been playing the game since Combat Evolved came out. I thought it was pretty cool. They came out with Halo 2. I loved it. I played it everyday pretty much since it came out. I gotta admit though I did start getting bored with it. By then I was wondering when or if a new Halo would come out. You see, Bungie always lures us into a trap, that turns out to be fragfests on Xbox Live and their campaigns. They always introduce something new in the Halo Universe. Halo 3 ODST for example. They are for the first time giving the point of view from a squad of OSDTs. That to me seems new enough for all of us, if not freakin awsome. Now their amping it up with Halo Reach. Instaed of going foward with the story, they are taking it in reverse. Their gonna tell the story before Halo CE, i believe. And ive always wondered what happened before Halo CE. How did the war begin? I hope they add that on there. Either way, they are always introducing something new to us Halo Fans. As long as they dont do random add ons with the same concept or add anything like "paper halo", then we should be fine, and Bungie will go far.

  • 06.09.2009 9:27 PM PDT

I'm going to keep it short and sweet. No, I don't think they are going to far...talk to me after Reach though.

Halo Reach

no

  • 06.09.2009 9:51 PM PDT

Maybe thats what they are doing. They are giving a new concept from the same universe. Maybe their introducing it differently than the other games to get a fresh concept. I don't know, it comes out in a year and a half. We'll have to wait and and see.
